Dorotha M. McGuire

Dorotha M. McGuire, 87, of Mt. Vernon, pass-ed away at 6:05 a.m. 
Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.She was born 
in Benton on Monday, June 6, 1921, a daughter of Albert W. and Evelyn 
(Shelton) Lowry. She married Vernon McGuire on June 2, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, 
and he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2005.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in 
Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bruce Gordan officiating. Interment will follow 
at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. 
Saturday at the funeral home.

Dorotha is survived by her daughter, Darlene Raney of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, 
Jennifer Raney Echols and husband Robbie of Texico and Michael Raney and wife Delilah 
of Mt. Vernon; three great-grandchildren, Jady Rae and Rylee Jo Echols of Texico and 
Alexia Marie Raney of Mt. Vernon and one expected great-grandson, Gage Michael Raney; 
two brothers, Dick Lowry and wife Joyce of Arizona and Robert Lowry and wife Rona of 
Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; her husband; her son, Rickey L. McGuire; one brother, Norman Lowry; and 
one sister, Betty Walden, preceded her in death.

Dorotha worked at the Mt. Vernon Garment Factory and later for Illinois Bell Telephone 
and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
