John R. McClure
John R. McClure, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away at 8:34 P.M. on Friday,
November 25, 2011 at St. Mary Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born March 25, 1920 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Walter & Bernice
(Mayberry) McClure. He married Marcelle Walls and she preceded him in
death on December 12, 1971. He married Annabel Davenport on October 11, 1975
in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
John is survived by his wife: Annabel McClure of Mount Vernon, one son:
Mike McClure and wife Cheryl of Mount Vernon, two grandsons: Quinn McClure and
wife Amanda of Mount Vernon and Kyle McClure of Murray, Kentucky, one granddaughter:
Mallory Moddelmog and husband Chris of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, two great grandsons:
Colin and Trevor McClure of Mount Vernon, two great Granddaughters: Mia and Emma
Grace Moddelmog of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, one brother: Charles McClure and wife
Pauline of Mount Vernon, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents, first wife and one sister: Lorraine Baysinger preceded him in death.
John was a tank driver for one of General George S. Patton's Armored Divisions of
the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service he was circulation
manager for the Mount Vernon Register News 18 years and later worked as a clerk at
Martin's IGA also in Mount Vernon until retiring. He was also a member of Logan Street
Baptist Church in Mount Vernon.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 28, 2011 at Hughey Funeral
Home in Mount Vernon with Reverend Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow
at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon For those who wish,
memorials may be given to Logan Street Baptist Church Buiding Fund and will be accepted
at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
