William Kenneth McClain
William Kenneth McClain, 77 of Mt. Vernon died 10:20 p.m. August 20, 2005,
at his home. He worked for the Jefferson County Highway Department
for many years, then was self employed as a tree trimmer.
Mr. McClain was born Oct. 7, 1927 in Marion to James McClain and Luella (Hayes)
McClain. He married Alice Mae Cornwell on March 25, 1954 in Benton. She
preceded him in death on August 31, 2004.
No public services will be held per request of Mr. McClain. Burial will take
place at East Hickory Hill Cemetery. No public visitation will be held per the
request of Mr. McClain.
Mr. McClain is survived by two sons; Tony McClain and wife Tammy, of Mt. Vernon,
Jim McClain and wife Leslie, of Fredricksburg, Va.; two daughters, Sherri Pierce
and husband Tracy of Wayne City, Lisa Hoelscher and husband Curtis of Centralia;
13 grand children; 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Mae, son Randy McClain, granddaughter
Gay Lynn McClain and sister Virginia Easton.
Mr. McClain served in the U. S. Army, 30th Infantry, and served in the Korean War.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospice or
the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed
to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Il. Arrangements have been entrusted
