Vera L. Mayo
Vera L. Mayo, 80, Mt. Vernon, died at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Mayo was employed at Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory for several years and later operated the
Hideaway Restaurant near Mt. Vernon Township High School.
She was born Feb. 9, 1911, in Jefferson County, a daughter of William and Larena (Brookman) Sechrest.
Aug. 4, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, she married William M. Mayo, who survives.
Services will be 3 pm Monday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Revs. Melvin Larson and Gene Auxier
officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 pm Sunday at the
funeral home.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mayo is survived by three sons, William E. Mayo and wife Theresa
and Charles R. Mayo and wife Wilma, all of Mt. Vernon, and Robert F. Mayo and wife Dotie of
St. Charles, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Ken (Naomi) Rushing of Steeleville; 19 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Mayo was a member of Webb New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and six sisters.
