Noble Lee Maxey
Noble L. Maxey, 84, of Bluford, died 11:20 a.m. Feb. 11, 2007,
at his home.
He was born March 24, 1922, in Jefferson County to Ray Maxey and
Mae (McCord) Maxey. He married Mary E. Bundy in Bluford, on April 18, 1950.
Noble worked as a carpenter and a farmer and had worked for Illinois Central
Railroad for 20 years.
Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home
in Mt. Vernon. Rev. Donald Evans and Rev. Gale Breeze will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson County. Visitation will
be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Noble is survived by wife Mary E. Maxey of Bluford; son William Dean
“Bill” Breeze and wife Marilyn of Wayne City; daughters Lois Johnson of
Evansville, Ind., and Melba LaFever and husband Charles of Quaker City, OH.;
brother Don Maxey of Bluford; sister Verla Mae Steward of Harrison, Mich.;
ten grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson;
and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, sisters Lucy Chambliss and Pauline Braddock, son-in-law
Carl O. Johnson and two great grandchildren preceded him in death.
Noble and Mary were saved March 23, 1954. Noble was a deacon and 50-plus year
member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bluford. He was baptized
May 9, 1954, ordained on Dec. 15, 1957, was church trustee since 1956 and
treasurer since 1961, had cleaned and made repairs to the church for many years.
He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Jefferson
Masonic Lodge #368 A.F. and A.M. of Opdyke.
