Allen Robinson Maxey
            
Allen Robinson Maxey, for many years janitor of the Franklin school, died last night about 
10 o'clock.  Mr. Maxey's death was a great surprise and came as a severe shock to his family and 
many friends in Mt. Vernon.  He had suffered much with asthma lately, but was up and about the 
house to the day or two of his death.
            
Mr. Maxey sat on his porch yesterday afternoon in the warm part of the day.
            
Mr. Maxey was a faithful custodian of the building and popular with pupils and teachers.  
He was conscientious in the discharge of the duties of his position and never failed to meet 
every requirement.
            
Mr. Maxey was born in Jefferson county February 19, 1854, and his age was 69 years, 7 months and 
4 days.  He was the son of the late Wm. Henry Maxey and wife.  Wm. Henry Maxey was a well known 
Methodist minister in his day.
            
Funeral services will be held at Hopewell tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the 
Rev. J. C. Kinison.
            
Mr. Maxey is survived by his wife and the following named children:  Mrs. Ida Jones and 
Mrs. Gertie Grimes, and Miss Nora Maxey, Mt. Vernon, and Harrison Maxey, E. St. Louis, One daughter, 
Mrs. Hattie McKowen died four years ago.  Six grand children survive.
            
Two sisters survive, Mrs. Mary Mayfield, Centralia, and Mrs. Louise Myers, Dix, and one half sister, 
Mrs. Belle Norfleet, in Texas, and a half brother Chas Claybourn, Texico.
            
Mr. Maxey lived twenty-three years in Mt. Vernon and was janitor of the Franklin school fifteen years.
