John Yancy Mason
John Yancy MASON, a resident of Mt. Vernon for three-quarters of
a century, died yesterday (19 Aug 1937)* at Anna. His age was
82 years, 10 months, and nine days.
Born in Alabama, he moved to Jefferson county while a young boy.
He was the son of Mr., and Mrs. Charles MASON. Mr. MASON was well
known in the south part of the county and in Mt.Vernon in the active
years of his life. He had been a great reader and a great student of
social and political questions, and held pronounced views on leading
issues of the day in which he lived. He wore a long beard and was of
patriarchal appearance, and was a man of strong likes and dislikes
with a very active mind. Much of his life was spent on a farm.
Funeral services will be held at Myers Chapel at 10 o'clock Saturday
morning and burial will be had in Mason cemetery. The body will remain
in Myers Chapel until the funeral hour.
Mr. Mason is survived by three sons, Oscar, of Plainview, Neb.; Albert
of Norfolk, Neb.; and Walter**, of Sonora, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs.
Inez MCMEEN, Mrs. Ruth CARROLLl and Zelda MASON of Sonora, Calif., and
Mrs. Florence JACKSON of Florida; and one sister, Mrs. Affie DARE, of Anna.
