Driver, Dies
Merle W. Martin, 61, driver of a Waltonville school bus died, suddenly in
the night, apparently from a heart attack. He was dead on arrival at Good
Samaritan Hospital at 2 a. m. today.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Fry Funeral Chapel,
in Waltonville. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will lie in
state at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville, where friends may call after 5:00 p.m.
Saturday.
Mr. Martin was born September 3, 1903, in Jefferson county, the son of Lee and Nevada
(Beckham) Martin. He was first married to Myrl Isom, who died in 1942. He later married
Francis Hodge, who survives. Other survivors include one son, Bob Martin of Chicago;
two step-sons, Max Hodge of Salem and Larry Hodge of Waltonville; and one brother,
Joel Martin of Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and
one son.
