Terry N. Marlin
            
A longtime member of the Jefferson County board and supervisor of Shiloh Township, "Ted" Marlin, 
5 Cherry Drive, died at 1:35 am today in Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 82.
            
Mr. Marlin, who served 36 years in the postal service, turned his attention to public office, 
following his retirement as acting postmaster here in 1961.
            
He served 14 years on the county board, retiring from office in 1976, and was a member of the 
Jefferson County Board of Review.
            
Terry Nathaniel "Ted" Marlin was born in White County March 18, 1900, the son of J.H. and 
Lucy (Turner) Marlin.
            
He received his education in public school, high school and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  
He was a teacher in Franklin Grade School and at schools in Jefferson County.
            
On Oct. 8, 1927, he married Edith Hester Soper, who survives.
            
Funeral services for Mr. Marlin will be held at 1:30 pm Sunday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the 
Rev. William Causer officiating.  Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
            
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Richard Graeme Marlin of East Moline; one daughter, 
Mrs. Byron (Mary Elizabeth) Skinner of Springfield; four grandchildren, Ted Anthony and Gina Faye Marlin 
and Sheryl Lynn and Michael Eugene Skinner; One great-grandson, Daniel Richard Marlin; two nieces, 
Lois Bundy of Mt. Vernon and Edith Arnesman of Mission, Texas, and several cousins.
            
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a daughter, Martha June Marlin.
            
An active member of the Methodist Church for more than 70 years, Mr. Marlin was a certified lay speaker 
and served in many churches in that capacity.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and 
served on various boards and committees in the district and as a delegate to the Southern Illinois 
Conference.  He also served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher and chairman of the official board 
of the church.
