Edith Marlin
Edith Marlin, 93, of Rochester and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died
May 28, 2003, while undergoing hospice care at her daughter’s
home in Rochester.
She was born Aug. 21. 1909, in Johnson County, a daughter of Henry
and Katie (Newman) Soper. She married Terry N. Marlin in 1927. He
preceded her in death, as did a daughter, Martha June Marlin.
She considered herself a homemaker. However, while living in
Mt. Vernon she served the Southern Illinois Conference of the United
Methodist Church as secretary of the traffic office for a number
of years. She also served as the district officer of the Women’s
Society of Christian Service of the United Methodist Church. She was
a gifted musician and enjoyed playing both the piano and organ.
After her husband’s death in 1982, she moved to Rochester and became
an active member of the Rochester United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Marlin is survived by her son Richard Marlin and wife Viona of
East Moline; daughter Mary Elizabeth Skinner and husband Byron of
Rochester; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wilson Park Funeral
Home in Rochester. Funeral services will be head 10:30 a.m. Monday at
the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Crawford officiating. Graveside
services will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Hopewell Cemetery near Mt. Vernon.
The Rev. David Eadie will officiate.
