Waltonville Dies
Raymond Stanley Mannen, 68, former mayor of Waltonville, died at 4:40 p.m.
yesterday at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis after a lingering illness.
Mr. Mannen, a well known Jefferson county farmer and stock raiser, was also employed
in the land department of the C.W. & F. Coal Co. He was elected and served four terms
as mayor of Waltonville.
Mr. Mannen was born January 12, 1886 near Waltonville, the son of Josiah H. and
Mary B. (McNail) Mannen. He attended Ewing College at Ewing, Ill. On October 11, 1911 he
was married in Mt. Vernon, to Margaret Euterpe Hirons. His death occurred on their 43rd
wedding anniversary.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Methodist church in Waltonville
and burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. Friends may call at the Fry Funeral Home in
Waltonville after 6:00 p.m. today. At 2:00 p.m .Wednesday the body will be moved to the
family home to lie in state until the funeral hour.
Besides his wife, Mr. Mannen is survived by two sons, Merritte of Mt. Vernon and Leland
of New Haven, Conn.; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Martin of Waltonville; two grandchildren;
two brothers, Hardy E. of Mt. Vernon and Sebern W. of Woodlawn; a half-brother, Joe of
Chicago; and his step-mother, Mrs. Cora Mannen of Waltonville. He was preceded in death by
his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
