Hardy E. Mannen
The Mt. Vernon Register News published the following on Saturday,
May 27, 1972
Hardy E. Mannen, one of Jeffeson County's best known and liked men,
died at 2:35 p.m. yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital, at the age
of 91. Mr. Mannen, a retired farmer who resided at 2701 Casey
Avenue, had been in failing health for a long time.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Myers Chapel.
The Reverend Ernest Dycus will officiate and burial will be in
Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where
friends may call between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
For many years Mr. Mannen owned and operated a large farm in the
Waltonville area. He served four years as coroner of Jefferson County and
for several years, was an automobile salesman in Mt. Vernon. He attended
Ewing College. Mr. Mannen was born September 6, 1880 at Waltonville, the son
of Josiah and May B. (McNail) Mannen. On August 11, 1909 he was married to
Alma Dodds, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Marvin
Mannen of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Anna Ruth Scherer of Mt. Vernon; a
brother, Sebern Mannen of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and four sisters preceded him
in death.
