Sarah J. Jones
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah J. Jones, who died yesterday,
will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in the First
Presbyterian Church, conducted by the pastor. the Rev. Robert
B. Guthrie. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was the widow of Joseph H. Jones, who preceded
her in death a number of years.
Before marriage she was Sarah J. Barkalow, daughter of D. G.
and Mariah Beach Barkalow, and she was born in Shelby county,
Ohio, April 23, 1850.
Her age at the time of death was 83 years, six months and 14 days.
In 1867 she was united in marriage with Joseph H. Jones, and
they located on a farm near Ataliss, Iowa. Two sons were born
to their union, George of Hayden, Colo., and Henry W. of
Mt. Vernon, who survives. One grand-daughter survives.
In 1892 the family moved to a farm near Mt. Vernon, and later
came to Mt. Vernon.
When a young woman, Mrs. Jones united with the Presbyterian Church
and remained a faithful member until the end, attending services
whenever possible.
Mrs. Jones' nieces, Mrs. Frank Beveridge and Mrs. George Moore
of Muscatine, Iowa, and Mrs. Maida Nachbar of Atla, Iowa were
with here at the time of her death, and have been with her some time.
