Ruby Marie Jones

Ruby Marie Jones, 92, of St. Louis and a former
Mt. Vernon resident, died Dec. 31, 2005 at Bethesda
Meadow in Ellisville, Mo.

She was born Nov. 1, 1913, in Whittington to William and
Mary Flach.

Her parents; two sisters, Gertrude Gray and Mable Robbins;
a brother, Leonard Flach; a nephew, Donald Flach; and a niece,
Kim Crider, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Delilah E. Canning and husband
Robert of St. Louis; a son, Leonard Jerome Jones and wife Ellen
of St. peters, Mo.; a grandson, Darryl Jones Scott and wife Lora
of Tacoma, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, Bryan and Ashley Scott
of Tacoma, Wash.; four stepchildren, Dan Ellison and wife Nancy
of Murphysboro, Ron Ellison of St. Charles, Mo, Gary Hatfield and
wife Jan of Mulkeytown and Linda Lawrence of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine
stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and
four nieces and a nephew, Eva Fred of Benton, Rosemary Hewlett of
West Frankfort, Ramona Wade of Whittington, Johnny Robbins
of Evansville, Ind., and Carol Thomas of Decatur.

Ruby and Herschel Jones were married July 4, 1931; Mr. Jones passed
away Dec. 19, 1979. Both were active in Horse Prairie Church for 20
years. Delilah and Jerome grew up in the church. In 1950, the family
moved to Benton and in 1959, they moved to Mt. Vernon. Both Mr. and
Mrs. Jones were active in Park Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones taught
young women's Sunday school classes for years. She was active in WMU,
sang in the church choir, worked in the church food pantry, visited
people in nursing homes each month with cookies and gifts on their
birthdays, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years and worked in
Vacation Bible School each year. Mrs. Jones was a very good wife and
mother. She was cheerful and had a radiant smile and was always willing
to help those about her. Now she is with Christ, who became her personal
savior at an early age. Her testimony was found among her papers, which
said, "Going to a revival in my home church. Rev. Edgar Cole, the evangelist,
helped me to realize I needed Christ desperately and that he would take
away the fears and give me peace of mind. I responded to the altar call
and prayed that God would forgive me of my petty sins. Because I was young,
I had not done anything bad, and I trusted him and found peace in my heart."

Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Johnston Funeral
Home in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Bob Boynett officiating. Burial will be
in Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser. Visitation will be after 11 a.m.
Wednesday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. For further information,
you may contact Johnston Funeral Home at 242-0604.
