Archie Ivan Jones

Archie Ivan Jones, 89, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla, and formerly 
of Mt. Vernon died April 4, 1998, at Westwood Health Center.

He was employment manager for Pressed Steel Car Company in Mt. Vernon 
until 1953; from 1953 through 1954, he was co-owner of the 
Studebaker-Packard agency in Cofeyville, Kan.; and he was a bookkeeper 
for DeWitt Lumber Company in Mt. Vernon until retirement.

Mr. Jones was born Feb. 8, 1909, in Grover, Colo., a son of Thomas and 
Leota (Mason) Jones.  June 1, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, he married Doris 
(DeWitt) Jones, who died in 1992.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Newell Funeral Home with the 
Rev. Greg Alvis officiating.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. 
Vernon.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Newell Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones is survived by two sons, E. Wayne Jones and wife Janet of 
Destin, Fla., and Larry Jones and wife Caroline of Columbia, Md.; eight 
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one grandson, 
three brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, where  he was a 
member of the choir for more than 50 years.

For those who wish memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Mt. 
Vernon and will be accepted at the Newell Funeral Home.
