PASSING OF ANOTHER PIONEER 

Wesley Johnson, died at the family residence, at 115 East 
Main St., at 12:30 this morning of kidney trouble after a 
protracted illness.Deceased was one of the pioneers of 
Mt. Vernon and on account of his kindly and genial 
dispostion was universally respected by all who knew him. 

Mr. Johnson was born at Maysville, Ky, June 26th, 1825, 
consequently was in the seventy fourth year of his age at 
the time of his death. In 1834 Mr. Johnson removed with his 
parents to Illinoins and settled in Mt. Vernon and with the 
exception of a few years residence in Kentucky, has lived here 
ever since. 

A short time previous to the Rebellion he was married to 
Miss Louisa Rice of Fredonia in his native state and for a 
period of four or five years made that city his home. His 
strong attachment for Mt. Vernon however, caused him to 
return to Jefferson county at the close of the war where 
he has been content to remain for more than thirty years. 

Mr. Johnson leaves a wife and a family of two sons and five 
daughters to mourn his death. Of the children Messrs.Thomas, 
Harry L, Misses Florence, Sally, Emma, and Lucy are residents 
of Mt. Vernon. The other daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Coberly having 
removed with her husband about ten day ago to Massac County. 
He leaves three brothers, Fletcher, Washington and Adam Clark 
Johnson, the two former of which live in this city and the 
latter at Quitman, Ark., where he is a professor in the faculty 
of Quitman College. 

The funeral will take place at 10:30 tomorrow morning from 
the First M. E. church.
