Ethel R. Maxey Johnson
Mrs. Ethel R. Maxey JOHNSON, 80; died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Luther
Kent, on Lower Mt. Vernon Rd., last night at 10 after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Mt. Vernon. Ill., had been living in Evansville
since 1946. She formerly lived in Gallatin Co. Ill. Ethel was the daughter of
Oscar Stephen Maxey and Mary Ellen Brown Maxey.
She was a member of Forest Hills Pilgrim Holiness Church. She was the widow
of Alva C. Johnson, custodian at the church for many years, who died July 27.
Surviving besides Mrs Kent are another daughter, Mrs Lawrence Cox,
Indianapolis; sons, William Merlin, Neil and Carroll, all of Clearwater, Fla;
a sister, Mrs. Emma Ruth Henry, and a brother, Roy C. Maxey, both of Mt.
Vernon, Ill.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at Forest Hills Church Saturday at 10 AM. The Rev . Alfred
Case will officiate. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
