Edith Jines
 
The Register-News is in receipt of the following regarding Mrs. Joseph H. JINES 
who died at an early hour this morning. Another pioneer gone to her reward.  
Edith, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph BOSWELL, was born on the 30th day of 
March, 1854, in Wayne County, Ill., but spent the greater part of her life in 
Jefferson County.  

She was united in marriage with Joseph H. JINES at Belle Rive, on the 25th day of 
January 1879.  Five children were born to this union, namely Anna, now Mrs. 
Robert McLEAN, Arthur and Kenneth of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Omer, who died in 1896.  
Grace married William CLARK of Oklahoma City. She died in October, 1928, and is buried there.

Mr. and Mrs. JINES lived in Mt. Vernon for a number of years and were here during 
the cyclone, in February 19, 1888, and their house was wrecked. In 1910, they moved 
to Oklahoma City and lived there, with the exception of one year in California, 
until August 1930, when they returned to Mt. Vernon and have since made their home 
with Mr. and Mrs. Robert McLEAN. Mrs. JINES died at Mr. and Mrs. McLEAN's home at 
116 north Fourteenth Street at 15 minutes past 3 o'clock in the morning, at the age 
of 79 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Mrs. JINES was a devoted member of the Methodist Church, deeply religious and enjoyed 
the blessing of sanctification, and always said "Now I lay me down to sleep." before 
she retired, and a good night to all as long as she was conscious. She was afflicted 
for years and so very deaf she was unable to attend church, but she clung on to the Master, 
praying every day until the great and good God looked down in pity on His poor suffering 
child, let His chariot swing low this morning, and took her to Himself.

Her aged husband, one daughter, Mrs. Ann McLEAN of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Arthur and 
Kenneth of Oklahoma City, Okla., one brother, R. F. BOSWELL of Mt. Vernon and a host 
of relatives and friends remain to mourn their loss.  

The funeral will be held at the home, 116 North Fourteenth Street, at 1:30 p.m. 
Wednesday, February 7, conducted by Rev. J. C. KINISON, with burial at the West 
Salem Cemetery
