Bessie S. James

Bessie S. James, 102, of Gunter, Texas and formerly of 
Mt. Vernon, died 5:20 p.m. January 1, 2007, at Hilltop 
Haven Nursing Home in Gunter, Texas. 

She was born January 8, 1904, in Jefferson County, a daughter 
of J. Riley Smith and Eva (Davis) Smith. She married Orland A. 
James in Fairfield on September 15, 1923. She worked at Mt. 
Vernon Knitting Mill and later retired as an inspector from 
Burgess-Norton Manufacturing Co. in Geneva. 

A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood 
Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Those wishing to attend should gather at the 
cemetery on Thursday morning. 

Survivors include two grandsons: Ron A. James and wife Gail of McKinney, 
Texas and Don L. James and wife Dianne of Frisco, Texas; six great 
grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Her parents, husband, one son: Cletus A. James, three brothers and three 
sisters preceded her in death. 

Bessie was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.
