Viva E. Jackson
Mrs. Viva Jackson, a former Mt. Vernon resident, died Friday
at the Methodist Old Folks Home at Lawrenceville, Ill., at the
age of 86 years, six months and 24 days.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday at the First
Methodist Church in this city, of which she was a member, with
the Rev. Dale Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call
after 7:00 pm today. At noon Sunday the body will be taken to
the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Jackson was born Aug. 23, 1874 in Marion, the daughter of
John and Amanda (Carson) Stephenson. She was married to the Rev.
Marion Jackson, who organized the Epworth Methodist Church in
this city. He preceded her in death July 26, 1942.
Survivors include four sons, William Lee Jackson of Joliet,
David E. Jackson of Chicago, Marion Bond Jackson of El Salvador,
Central America, and Robert G. Jackson, living in France;
three daughters, Mrs. Mary Andrews of St. Louis, Martha Elizabeth
Jackson and Dorothy Alice Jackson, both of New York; a sister,
Mrs. Bertha Eade of Nashville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren
