Dorothy Evelyn Isaacs
Dorothy Evelyn Isaacs, 84, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at
home with family by her side. She was born on June 17, 1924, in Mt. Vernon
to John Edward and Clara (Dorris) Yearwood. She married Leslie H. Isaacs July
5, 1941, in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2006. She retired
after 20 years of service from the Roxana School District where she worked
as a cafeteria manager. She is survived by a son, Ronald Isaacs of Baton
Rouge, La., and his children, Christine Palermo, Kathy Roccono, Laura Schachter
and Karen and Sarah Isaacs; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joyce and Roy
Dildine of Wood River and their children, Tim Dildine, Jeff Tottleben, Juli
Akal, Tammy McLane and Amy Macias; Susan Faloon of San Antonio and her son
Chris Faloon; and Carol and Steven H. Weber of Roxana, and their children Meghan
Ellis and Carl Weber; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law,
Betty and Dean Newell of Mt. Vernon; and a very special caregiver, Linda
Batson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie H. Isaacs;
siblings, Edith, Mary, Midge, John, Charles and Walter Yearwood; and a
great-granddaughter Elizabeth Isaacs.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Park Avenue Baptist
Church in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Chuck Ellis officiating. Burial will follow
at New Shiloh Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday
at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or the activities
program at the Bethalto Care Center. The family would like to extend a special
thanks to the staff at the Bethalto Care Center for providing such compassionate
and quality care during her stay.
