Family Account for Joseph J. Chambliss, Jr.
by his daughter, Susy (Chambliss) Webb
"Joseph James Chambliss (Jr.) was born near Coopertown Robertson County Tenn in the yr. 1845, May 24, was the son of Joseph James Chambliss and Sarah Connell Chambliss. His father died in February of pneumonia before he was born in May. His mother later married Jesse M. Clark about the year 1850. He had two brothers who died in infancy, a living brother Wiley D. who was born in 1840 Sept 9. These two brothers with their mother, stepfather, half brothers and sisters and step brothers and sisters came to Jefferson Co. Illinois in the year 1856 April 21, settled near Puncheon Creek, on what is now known as N.E. (Ed) Harlow place or farm, now owned by Warren B. Waters. He was first married to Matilda Jane Mitchell in year of 1868. Eight children were born to this union. Namely Minnie Hattie Lela Etta and twin brothers Fred Frank and an infant. This mother died in 1884. In November 1886 he was married to Laura M. Pulliam who died Feb. 20, 1907. To this marriage seven children were born, Walter, Irvin, Ray, Susy, Harry, Oscar and Charlie. He resided on same farm 67 years. Died January 1st 1935. " Taken from a handwritten copy from Susy (Chambliss) Webb. Date that this was written is unknown. Susy (Chambliss) Webb was the daughter of Joseph James Jr. and Laura (Pulliam) Chambliss. She was born May 24, 1891 at the family's farm south of Harmony, Illinois. Susy Chambliss married Ray Webb on February 16, 1910 in Jefferson County, Illinois. She died on July 24, 1960 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Burial was at Harmony Cemetery in Harmony, Illinois.
