Organized in 1972 and incorporated in 1976 as a non-profit organization to collect data of a genealogical and historical value. Our resources cover Morgan County, Illinois and other nearby counties within a 50 mile radius such as Cass, Scott, Sangamon, Menard, Macoupin, Greene, Adams, Brown, Schuyler and Pike. We also have some miscellaneous material on states, mainly Virginia and Kentucky. Jacksonville Area Genealogical and Historical Society is a non-profit organization and exists on dues and donations from those who use our services. Members and the general public, both can receive help and use our "resources in house". Membership is open to any person, regardless of race, national origin, sex, age, or religion or location who subscribe to the Society and pays the annual due of $25.00. Society members receive a quarterly publications.
Jacksonville Area Genealogical and Historical Society has been working to be more accessible for you. We are still building our first ever website (jaghsil.com), re-organizing the society, and will be coming out with some really exciting events. You won't want to miss out on what's coming next!
