    The book is hardbound and $49.95 It includes Hardin Co. history, photos and profiles of many of the families whose ancestors settled in Hardin Co. The following is an example of one profile:

    From the book, Hardin Co. Past & Present

    Vol Ferrell, son of William Carroll and Sarah (Pyles) Ferrell, was born May 29, 1867 near Karbers Ridge, Hardin Co. IL. On Dec. 9, 1894 he married Laura Belle Stacey, daughter of James Byram and Mary Ann (McMurphy) Stacey. He and his wife were school teachers and he was a social Brethren minister, having been ordained when quite young and was active in church work throughout his life. He was engaged in general merchandising for over sixty years at Hicks until 1920 and then at Rosiclare until 1949. He served as County Clerk and Commissioner of Hardin Co. His wife, Laura, was postmaster at Hicks for twenty-two years. She was born Dec 20. 1872 and died Apr. 25, 1940. He died May 22, 1959.

    Of their nine children four are deceased, namely: Mable Partain, Otis M., Randall and Russell, surviving are Mollie Jackson, Hattie F. McDaniel, Hazel F. Conger, Harry R. and Norman. Harry R. is an ordained minister. Randall, Russell and Norman did military service in World War II.

    The great grandfather of Vol Ferrell was Clement H. Ferrell who was born in 1790 in Kentucky. He married Sarah Edwards in Sumner Co. Tn., April 26, 1811. In 1830 he moved his family from Tennessee to Illinois and settled in Good Hope neighborhood of Hardin Co. For service in the War of 1812 he received two land grants. One of July 1 1851 was for W1/2NE1/4 Sec.36 TS11 R9E, 80 acres, north of Cave-in-Rock , where he died Oct. 15, 1862. His second son, James, was born May 6, 1819. He married Mary Mott May 6, 1838. He was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister and for several years was Hardin Co. surveyor. He died Sept. 21, 1878. The second son of James was William Carrol, born Feb. 15, 1847. He married Sarah Pyle July 5, 1866. He was a farmer and carpenter and served in Co. D 49th Regiment of Illinois Infantry volunteers in Civil War. His wife Sarah, died Apr. 20, 1909 and he died Oct 9,1930. Their children were Susan, Estella, Willie E. and the subject of this sketch, Vol Ferrell.
