QRYTEXT: I am seeking information on Elijah Pirtle who married Sarah Butts in Gallatin County Il. I don't have an exact date. I got this information from the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763 - 1900. There was an Elijah Pirtle in Johnson County IL in the 1870 census so I believe it would have been after that.

QRYTEXT: TAYLOR/WOODFORK My great-grandfather was Charley B. TAYLOR, born in Illinois in 1860. According to his death certificate, he was the son of John and Mary Taylor. Mary's maiden name was not given. She was born--according to the 1910 census--in Tennessee. John may have been born in Illinois or he may have been born in Virginia- -the death certificate gives the former, the census the latter. On November 5, 1883 he married Jennie Francis WOODFORK in Gallatin County, Illinois. The specific places I have for them, besides Gallatin County, are SHAWNEETOWN and WHITE COUNTY. They left Illinois around the turn of the century--I know this because a daughter was born to them in 1901 in Indian Territory--what is today OKLAHOMA. Charlie was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He died in 1913. His death (in a gunbattle) generated a great deal of publicity, so I have quite a lot of material on the subject of his demise, and if there are relatives out there who will contact with me and help me get off center with this Taylor-Woodfork research, I'd be more than happy to share my research. Also, according to my grandmother, the family was Confederate. Shirley

QRYTEXT: My great-grandfather was Charlie B. Taylor; he was born in Illinois in 1860. His parents were John and Mary Taylor--I got their names from his death certificate, so I really know nothing of them. John was born in Illinois, according to this document--and Mary was born in Tennessee. Another document has John born in Virginia. On November 5, 1883 Charlie married Jennie Francis Woodfork in Gallatin County, Illinois. She was two years younger than Charlie--and she was born in Louisville, Kentucky, I believe. The two of them lived for quite some time in Shawneetown. Four of their children were born there-- Patrick, George Michael, Maude, and Emma Eathel (my grandmother). Around 1900, Charlie took his family to Indian Territory, settling in Farris, Atoka County, where he farmed, operated a "mercantile establishment" and served as postmaster. He died there on September 8, 1913, in a gun battle. The paper said the duel had to do with Charlie and his opponent (a Mr. Stephens), being members of "secret societies". I know Charlie was a Mason. He may also have been part Choctaw Indian. If anyone can help me trace this family, I would be very grateful. I've had a great deal of difficulty getting off "high center" with the Taylor and Woodfork lines. --------------------------------------------------
