WOODLAWN CEMETERY
Woodlawn Cemetery is located about 1/2 mile from the business section of Clinton. 65 acres of land were donated by George W. Gideon. His son Edwin died shortly after returning home sick from the Civil War and his was the first burial on these grounds. George W. wanted to make sure every soldier had a proper burial ground. There is a beautiful monument dedicated to the Soldiers of Illinois. This is actually three cemeteries in one as Memorial Park and Mausoleum Park both adjoin the original cemetery. This is a very beautiful cemetery at first sight, until you notice that the older stones are broken and lying between the newer stones. It is well groomed and at the same time neglected. There are very good records for this cemetery.
