Herbert V. Smith, 54, Bartlett, Tennessee died Sunday April 6, 2003 at Veterans Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born on December 30, 1948 in Pontoosuc, Illinois and was the son of Edwin Austin Smith and Goldie D. (Welsh) Smith. He was married to Laura Dale Leggitt, who grew up in the Oblong area. Herbert was employed with FED EX as a Non Destructive Testing Specialist. He served with the United States Army in Viet Nam and was a member of East Win Christian Church, Bartlett, TN. He graduated second in his class at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. received an Associate of Mechanical Engineering with honors at State Technical Institute at Memphis, TN., Obtained Airframe and Power Plant License and NDT License, and he was very involved with his families activities and lives.
Herbert is survived by his wife Laura Dale Smith, one son Edwin A. Smith; one daughter Gayle A. Smith; two sisters Alice E. Siverly and Carla L. Walters; 3 half sisters Jeretta Nicholes, Bernadine Schiver and Neoma Loehr; two half brothers Kenneth Ramsey and Tim Ramsey.
