Dessie P. Slocum, 98, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois. Dessie was born on March 4, 1907 in Crawford County, Illinois and was the daughter of John William and Carrie Florence (Henry) Allen. On December 28, 1938, Dessie married Floyd Benjamin Slocum and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1988. Dessie worked at Kroger Grocery Store in Chicago, a grocery store in Oblong, Shire Orchard, rural Oblong and as a cook at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. She was a member of the Oblong Evangelical United Methodist Church for 83 years, joining on March 26, 1922, and the Methodist Women's Group at the E. U. M. Church. Dessie loved quilting, flower and vegetable gardening and canning.

Surviving Dessie are two sons and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" & Becky Slocum and Richard Slocum; two daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis & Larry Henry and Judy Slocum; five grandchildren, Pam & Dan Thomas, Joe & Nikki Henry, Bill Henry, Jodi Henry and Carrie Ann & Roger Sablone; three great-grandchildren, Kristin Henry, Ian & Tristan Sablone.

Preceding Dessie were her parents, husband, one granddaughter: Amy Lynn Slocum; two brothers: one infant and Samuel O. Allen; two sisters: Ruth Alice Dennis & Lucy Mae Chapman.
