Charles Crowley Rafferty, 92, of Sebring, FL, formerly of Robinson, IL, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Wake Forest University Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born April 15, 1912 in Robinson, IL, the son of Herbert Newell Rafferty and Bessie Alexander Rafferty.

He attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL. He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. He owned his own business growing and shipping citrus. He also was a researcher of citrus for the University of Florida the last 14 years of his career. He lived in Sebring, FL during the winter and during the summer he lived in Blowing Rock, NC. He was a member of the Sebring First Presbyterian Church and the Sebring Elks Lodge.

He married Willodean Harrison on April 17, 1938 and she survives. He is also survived by 2 sons, Dr. William Rafferty, Winston-Salem, NC, and Charles Rafferty, Atlanta, GA; 3 grandchildren, Patrick Rafferty, Becky Rafferty, and Benjamin Rafferty; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Sarah Cadieu; and 3 brothers, Newell Rafferty, Keen Rafferty, and Burns Rafferty.

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 11, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Robinson New Cemetery with Rev. Esther Pfeifer and Rev. Ron Pfeifer officiating. Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
