Ralph A. Nye, 92, Oblong, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Saturday March 3, 2007 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson. Born in Crawford County on July 24, 1914 he was the son of Orville Nye and Rose (McColpin) Nye.

Ralph served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II with the 741st Tank Batallion where he took part in the Normandy Invasion. Ralph worked as a mechanic in Mt. Carmel, Illinois after W.W.II then moved to Oblong to take care of the family farm in 1958. He was a member of the Dogwood Prairie United Methodist Church, Oblong American Legion Post #219 and Crawford County V.F.W. Post #4549, Robinson. He enjoyed hunting and tinkering with equipment.

On November 10, 1951, he married Jean Stantz, who preceded him in death on July 17, 2001. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Ray Nye and one sister, Mary Dixon.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Julie Nye; two grandchildren, Erica & Tony Meese and Mitchell Nye; niece, Patty & Ray Veldman; two nephews, Orville Nye and Eugene Dixon.

Burial is in the Prairie Cemetery, Rural Oblong, IL.
