Jean H. Manuell, 85, of Hutsonville, IL, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Town and Country Hospital, Tampa, FL. He was born the son of John William Manuell and Mary Dewella Highley Manuell.

He served as a captain in the U. S. Army during WWII. He retired as Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools for Lawrence and Crawford Counties in 1987. He was a member of the Hutsonville United Methodist Church where he served on the Church Board and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. He was a Certified Lay Speaker for the Methodist Church. He was a member of the 55 year Master Mason Palestine Masonic Lodge #849, a 50 year member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188, Crawford County Shrine Club, Hutsonville Historical Society, Hutsonville Community Club, Hutsonville Friends of the Library, Crawford County Retired Teachers Association. He helped form the Hutsonville Ruritan Club and served Lincolnland District Ruritan as a Zone Governor and Governor.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Marie Ellis Manuell. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, Jacqueline Corpin, Joan Spies, June Mullner, Georgia Coleman; and 1 brother, William Manuell.

He married Dorothy Freeman Dickey in 1982 and she survives. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Richard Ellis and Lori Manuell, Marshall, IL, Jacqueline and Gerrik Grove, Villa Park, IL, Brian and Terri Dickey, Palestine, Stephanie and Dan Serpentelli, Tampa, FL; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Manuell, Shelley Grove McManhon, Erin Grove, Jessica Grove York, Stephanie Richardson, Stacy Richardson, Matthew Dickey, Elizabeth Dickey, Kelly Dickey, Luke Serpentelli, and Justina Serpentelli; 1 great granddaughter, Olivia Richardson; 3 sisters and a brother-in-law, Jeanette Williamson, Dorothy Hawley, Daisy and Jack Walker; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine with Rev. Lynette Barnett officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hutsonville Historical Society.
