Jas. D. Maloy, a brakeman on the Iron Mountain running between St. Louis and Little Rock., Ark., was killed at Mill Springs, MO., on the night of Jan. 7th. He was on the pilot and in attempting to jump off in front in order to throw a switch he lost his footing, was caught beneath the pilot and dragged to his death. He lived at DeSoto, MO. Maloy was born in Martin township in this county and had relatives and friends here who will be sorry to hear of his untimely death. He was the son of Dixon and Jane Maloy, and was born on March 15, 1869. He was married June 7, 1898, to Miss Emma Record of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and his remains were taken to that place for interment. He leaves a wife, two sisters and three brothers. He began railroading on the I. & I. S. twelve years ago. He was a member of the B. of R. T. and was also a Knight of Pythias. He belonged to the Christian church.
