Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Kirk died at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, October 9, 2000. Betty was born November 2, 1907 in Ireland, Indiana, to Samuel and Eva (Byrd) Anderson Glezen. She moved to as a child when her family became partners in Mont Eagle Mills. She graduated from Oblong Township High School, and attended Oxford College in Ohio and DePauw University in Indiana. Betty taught in the Oblong Grade School before marrying Melvin (Mac) Kirk, who predeceased her.

She is survived by two sons, Samuel in Denver, Colorado, and John in Dushore, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Betty was church organist and sometime choir director at Central United Methodist,Church where she was known for liking sermons short and hymns fast. She was a member of Eastern Star, Oblong Book Club, and PEO. One of her great loves was roses which she proudly displayed at their home on East Wisconsin. Her secret was to tell them everyday they were loved and how pretty they were. It worked. After Mac's death Betty moved to Shelburne, Vermont, and then Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to be closer to family.
