Dorothy "Dot" Hursey, 82, Paola, Kansas formerly of passed away Friday May 20, 2005 at 4:30 a.m. at Olathe Medical Center Olathe, Kansas. Born September 10, 1922 in , she was the daughter of Allen Sanders and Nettie Weck. Dorothy grew up in Oblong and graduated from Oblong High School. Shortly after her schooling, Dorothy moved to East Gary, Indiana and was employed as a crane operator in a steel mill during World War II. She was united in marriage to Otto Ray Hursey on January 18, 1946 in Crown Point, Indiana and together they became the proud parents of three children, Michael, Patrick and Kelly. After their marriage they lived in East Gary before moving to Warrensburg, Missouri. Together they managed a motel in Warrensburg and several others throughout the United States before moving to Olathe, Kansas. In Olathe, Dorothy was employed at K-Mart before she and her husband purchased a restaurant in Wellsville, Kansas. They also purchased the Wise Owl restaurant in Paola and operated both for a number of years. After Dorothy retired from Wal-Mart in Olathe she moved to Belton, Missouri before moving to Paola, Kansas to live with her son Michael four years ago. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church in East Gary, Indiana. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles, and the Fire Department Auxiliary all in East Gary, Indiana. Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo, watching "I Love Lucy", fishing, working with puzzles, playing games with her grandchildren and going to the casinos to play the slot machines.

Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memories, three children, Michael Allen Hursey, Patrick Allen Hursey and Kelly Ray Hursey; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Sanders, Holbert Sanders and David Sanders; one sister Josephine Sanders; and a host of friends all of whom will miss her dearly.

Her parents, beloved husband, five sisters Ethel Lyons, Ruth Bruner, Lena Higginbotham, Margaret Shaffer and Martha Murphy; two brothers, Carl and Floyd Sanders; one half brother, Ralph Musgrave and one half sister Marie Ikemire.
