Jack R. Hixon, 68, of Flat Rock, IL, died at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN, Wednesday, January 28, 2004. He was born December 30, 1935 in Claremont Township, Lawrence County, IL, the son of Charles Hixon and Cora Atkins Hixon. He was retired from Texaco Refining Co after 25 years of service. He was a veteran serving in the U. S. Army Airborne and was a member of the Flat Rock American Legion.

He married Mary Case in 1958 and she preceded him in death in 1971. He married Linda Waldrop on March 11, 1983 and she survives. He is also survived by his son, William Charles Hixon, Claremont; his step-daughter and her husband, Carmen and Frank Walton, Flat Rock; his step-son and his wife, Jeffrey and Susan Weger, Highlands, TX; 5 grandchildren, Samantha Hixon, Wendi Walton, Laci Walton, Jamie Carpenter, Seth Carpenter; 1 great granddaughter, Amya Walton; a sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Luke Lucas, Mattoon; 4 brothers and sisters-in-law, Marion and Marie Hixon, Sumner, IL, Joe and Willie Hixon, Lima OH, Roy and Pauline Hixon, Claremont, Ray and Barbara Hixon, Claremont; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Charles Hixon.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Pastor Skip Thomas is in charge of services. Burial is in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be Friday, January 30th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Flat Rock Christian Church or to the American Lung Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
