Thomas Garrard departed this life Sunday evening, Jan. 1st, 1899, after a three weeks' illness of neuralgia of the brain. Deceased was born about three miles below Palestine on Dec. 29, 1835, and was 64 years and 3 days of age. In 1856 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kent, unto whom six children were born, four daughters and two sons. Mr. Garrard was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in the 148th Ind. Inf. During which service he sustained disabilities as to render him unfit to perform manual labor, and for which the government allowed him a liberal pension.
