Hazell Carolyn Alger, 88 of Palestine, IL, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at 8:06 a.m. She was born August 31, 1915 in Lawrence County, IL, the daughter of Ross Goodwin and Ethel Davis Goodwin. She was a homemaker, a member of the Palestine First Christian Church, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Christian Church "Pairs and Spares", the Palestine P. T. A. and the Campfire Girls. She attended college in Lafayette, IN, and taught Physical Education and English for 3 years in the Lawrenceville High School and 6 years in Mishawaka, IN.

She married Joseph Alger on October 13, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 18, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 grandsons; her sister, Velma "Vee" Dickison; and 4 brothers, Jim Goodwin, Harry Goodwin, George Goodwin, and Andy Goodwin.

She is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and James Vucich, Littleton, CO, Jayne and Pat Adams, Normal, IL; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Vicki Alger, rural Robinson; 5 grandchildren, Karen, Julie, and Greg Vucich, all of Littleton, CO, Walker Adams, Normal, and Paul Alger, rural Robinson; 2 great grandchildren; and her sister, Inez Curtis, Albuquerque, NM.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Palestine Cemetery with Rev. James Delaney III in charge of services on Wednesday, October 22, 2003. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Palestine First Christian Church. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of services.
