He was captured and sent to the notorious Andersonville Prison where he ministered to the sick and dying. He was able to persuade the notorious Capt. Wirtz commandant of the prison, to allow him to leave the prison at times to buy such vegetables and food as could be found in the countryside for the prisoners. Mr. Hope was released at the end of the war and lived out his life as a farmer in Crawford Co.)
