Following is one of the Biographies and Stories which where gathered by Charles Sumner McKamy in the 1950s for publication in a Crawford County History Book. Unfortunately he passed away before the book was published.
Louise Ikemire: My husband, Dr. John Andrew Ikemire, was born April 8, 1876 in Oblong Township where his Grandfather, Andrew Ikemire, entered land in 1853, moving to Illinois from Coshocton County, Ohio, but originally came from Pennsylvania. His Father could recall deer hunting around Big Creek in his boyhood.
He attended the Prairie District school, later attending Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana two years. After several years of teaching in district schools he finished college work in Austin College at Effingham, Ill. with an A.B. degree after which he attended Illinois Medical School in Chicago.
He practiced medicine a few months in West York, coming to Palestine in 1905. In 1915 he built the Ikemire Clinic, which was at that time, a branch of the State Laboratory work.
He was married in 1901 to Louise Young, a fellow teacher in Crawford County Schools. They were the parents of two children, Dr. Marjorie Ikemire and a son, John who at his Father's wish resumed the old family spelling of the name, Eikemmeyers, as it is recorded in the old family Lutheran Bible.
Dr. Ikemire was baptized in infancy in the Lutheran Church, later uniting with the Presbyterian Church.
The Ikemire Clinic is still operated by Dr. Marjorie Ikemire, who has practiced there since 1930, after graduation from Indiana Medical College.
Dr. John A. Ikemire died in 1949.
