An old ad from the early days of the Farmer's & Merchant's Bank

Text of the ad:

"Uncle Johnnie" Eaton was perhaps the first white settler in this community after the Hutsons, coming here from Fort Lamotte after the winter of 1812. The Barlows were the next family to come to what is now Hutsonville Township.

The Barlows settled on the place where the Hutson family was massacred and later purchased it. The Hutson cabin had been burned by the indians but a stable was still standing, and Mr. Barlow sheltered his family there while building a cabin.

While still occupying the stable, a child was born to the Barlows, and this was no doubt the first birth of a white child in the Township.
