Betty Siltman, 1928-2008, Chandlerville
   Betty Siltman, 79, of Chandlerville, passed away at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville on Monday morning, May 19, 2008.
   She was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Virginia, to Loren and Lucy (Collins) Arthalony. She married Warren Siltman in Chandlerville on Dec. 10, 1946. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1969.
   Mrs. Siltman is survived by one daughter, Patricia Blair of Chandlerville; three grandchildren, Gretchen (Todd) Hodgson of Kilbourne, Marinda (David) Behrends of Chandlerville and Brandon Blair of Petersburg. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Cole and Hannah Hodgson of Kilbourne and Tate and Toby Behrends of Chandlerville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Siltman; three brothers; one sister; her parents; and husband.
   Mrs. Siltman was a graduate of Chandlerville High School and later worked for the Illinois Secretary of State office as a clerk.
   Funeral services will be held at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville at 10 a.m. Thursday. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. Rev. Jim Waterman will officiate. Virginia - Wilson "Ped" Siltman, 79, of Virginia died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center.
   Survivors: a son, Jim Siltman of Springfield; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Ivan Siltman of Hobart, Tazmania; two sisters, Ernestine Siltman and Illa Lee Helensmith, both of Matanza Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sangamon Valley Presbyterian Church, Virginia. Burial: Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Virginia.

   Dr. Simon of Arenzville was found dead at his office Fri. last. The verdict by a jury was death due to apoplexy.

   Rev. Roger J. Simpson, 88, a retired priest of the Springfield, IL. diocese, died Jan. 20, 2014, in Walker Nursing Home in Virginia. He was born Dec. 25, 1925, the son of Robert A. and Catherine Dunlavy Simpson. He was ordained May 31, 1952, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Springfield, IL. Preceding him in death were his parents; David, his infant brother; and Robert, his brother.
   He served the parishes of the Cathedral, Sts. Peter and Paul, Alton, IL; St. Mary, Quincy, IL; St. Francis Xavier, Jerseyville, IL. He was pastor of St. Luke, Virginia, IL; St. Fidelis, Arenzville, IL; St. Basil, Chandlerville, IL; Queen of Peace, Bethalto, IL; and St. Mary, Edwardsville, IL. After retirement in 1993, he served as Pastor Emeritus at St. Mary, Pawnee, IL.
   He served as President of the Ministerial Associations in Bethalto and Virginia, IL; member of the Constitutional Committee, Priests’ Senate; member of the Priests’ Senate; President of the Religious Counsel, Southern IL. University, Edwardsville, IL; member of the Commission of Retired and Infirm Priests; and Hospice Pastoral and Bereavement Counselor for Cass, Brown and Schuyler Counties.
   He is survived by his sister-in-law, Lulie Simpson of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Eileen (Frank) Muriello of Oak Park, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
   A Funeral Mass will be concelebrated 6:00pm Fri. Jan. 24, 2014, at St. Luke’s Church in Virginia. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm prior to the service.    Ronald E. "Ronnie" Simpson, 57, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 27, 1954 in Beardstown, the son of Lloyd E. and Donna Belville Simpson. Surviving is his companion Becky Maltby of Beardstown; his mother Donna (husband Jack) Thurman of Beardstown; seven children Cory (wife Christina) Simpson of Chandlerville, O.J. (wife Heidi) Simpson of Beardstown, Jessie (wife Jade) Mayes of Decatur, Alicia Simpson of Beardstown, Sara Maltby of Havana, and Leasa and Jami Whitis both of Beardstown; eight grandchildren; three brothers Larry (wife Susie) Simpson of Chapin, and Bob (wife Karen) Simpson and Randy (wife Susan) Simpson both of Beardstown; He was preceded in death by his dad and his daughter Heather Frank. Ronnie attended Beardstown High School. He most recently worked at Edge Corporation in Beardstown. Ronnie loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 10-10:45 AM Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Alvenia A. Sinclair, 1923-2007, Virginia
   Alvenia Ann Sinclair, 83, of Harrisonburg, Va., and formerly of Virginia, died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg, Va.
   She was born April 14, 1923 in McIntosh, S.D., the daughter of Robert and Charlotte Puckett Finn. She married Oral Strawn Sinclair on April 21, 1946 in Virginia, Ill., and he preceded in death on July 16, 1992.
   She is survived by one son, Carroll Sinclair (wife, Jeannie) of Harrisonburg, Va; two grandsons, Brian Sinclair of Arlington, Va and Brett Sinclair of Harrisonburg, Va; one sister, Mary (husband, John) Cox of Virginia; two brothers, Leo (wife, Helen) Finn of Chandlerville and Gerald Finn of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death one daughter and one son, both in infancy; two brothers in infancy; and a sister in infancy.
   Mrs. Sinclair was a 1941 graduate of Chandlerville High School. She was employed at Velten's store and the Cass County Courthouse, both in Virginia, prior to working several years at Hertzberg New Method Bindery in Jacksonville. She was a member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia and the church's Altar Society and Parish Choir. She was a former member of the Virginia American Legion Auxiliary.
   Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, where a prayer service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.    Carroll Lee Sinclair, 65, of Harrisonburg, Va., and formerly of Beardstown, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at his home.
   He was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Jacksonville, the son of Oral Strawn and Alvenia Ann (Finn) Sinclair. He married Regina Hobrock on Aug. 1, 1970, at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown.
   Surviving is his wife, Regina Sinclair of Harrisonburg, Va.; and two sons, Brian Sinclair (wife, Michele) of Falls Church, Va., and Brett Sinclair of Harrisonburg, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Sinclair; and his sister, Barbara Sinclair.
    Carroll was a graduate of Virginia High School and Illinois State University. He worked as an office manager at Shenadoah's Pride near Harrisonburg, Va., and previously worked for Bohn Heat Transfer in Beardstown. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harrisonburg, Va.
   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. Burial will be at St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association. Dorothy Mae Sinclair, 1914-2003, Virginia
   Dorothy Mae Sinclair, 89 years, of Virginia, IL died Sunday morning, October 19, 2003 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown, IL.
   She was born June 25, 1914 in Jacksonville, IL; the daughter of Howard and Mae Bowman Jokisch. She married Marquis Crum Sinclair on September 11, 1936 in Lincoln, IL and he preceded in death on January 26, 1994.
   She is survived by two daughters, Rita Bahan (husband, Dan) of rural Jacksonville and Margi West (husband, Steve) of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Melodie Bahan of Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer Fenton of Evanston, Christopher Bahan of Farmington, NM, and Andy, Emily, Adam, Abby, and Ellie West, all of Jacksonville; a brother, John Jokisch (wife, Ruth) of Maggie Valley, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
   She is preceded in death by three sisters, Reta Retherford, Mary Faetz, and Marjorie "Babe" Henderson.
   Mrs. Sinclair, a graduate of Virginia High School, was employed at the Cass County Farm Bureau and later by Cass County Mutual Insurance. She then spent several years operating a income tax preparation and bookkeeping service. She was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church, Virginia American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.
   Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2003 at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Veronica M. Sinclair, 1920-2003, Virginia
   Veronica M. Sinclair, 83, of Virginia, died Thursday morning, Aug. 21, 2003, at Community Medical Center in Monmouth.
   She was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Plainview, Texas, the daughter of Theodore Gillette and Flora D. Dugger Scheihagen. She married Arthur Watson Sinclair on Nov. 30, 1940, in Virginia, and he preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1985.
   She is survived by one daughter, Lee Ann (husband, Dennis) Burns of Abingdon; two granddaughters, Susan (husband, Robert) Schleich of Monmouth and Julia Fitzsimmons of Peoria; and five great-grandchildren.
   Mrs. Sinclair was a graduate of Virginia High School and attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. She was an accomplished musician and taught piano for 15 years. She later served as a dental assistant for Dr. Snow in Virginia. She later joined the Central Illinois Public Service Co. for over 20 years, retiring in 1983. In her retirement, she taught eight years for literacy program in Beardstown. She was a long-time member of the Virginia United Methodist Church and served many years on the Walnut Ridge Cemetery Board of Directors. She was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and a talented seamstress. She loved playing golf, joining her friends for a game of bridge and sharing lunch with her former classmates.
   Funeral services will held 2 p.m. Sunday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. James W. Skaggs, 1933-2007, Beardstown
   James W. Skaggs, 74, of Beardstown, died Saturday morning, December 22, 2007, at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown.
   He was born Oct. 19, 1933, in Mason County, the son of George D. and Elizabeth Bennett Skaggs. He married Margaret Ann Sisson Holmes on March 17, 1967 and she preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1993.
   He is survived by two sons, David Skaggs of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Jonathan (wife, Desiree) Skaggs of Plymouth; one stepson, Raymond Weaver of Canton; one step-daughter, Mary Bowton of Canton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother: Bob (wife, Debbie) of Manito; and three sisters, Doretta (husband, Lyle) Mason of Cuba, Lois Meyer of Manito and Betty Lippert of Havana. He was preceded in death by one brother Charles, and one sister, Rosa Beal.
   Mr. Skaggs was a graduate of Rhema Bible College in Tulsa, Okla., where he later was a minister at a local mission. He was a member of the Faith Christian Family Church. Recently he had worked as a door greeter at Wal-Mart in Beardstown. In the summertime he enjoyed picking berries and making jams, jellies and pies to give away to his friends and family.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with burial at Bath Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.    Doloras J. (Campbell) Skiles, July 31, 1935-March 24, 2012
   Deloras Jean Skiles, 75, of Ipava and recently of Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, died Saturday March 24, 2012 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born July 31, 1936 in Beardstown, the daughter of Sam and Opal Simmons Campbell. She married Roger “Rod” Ned Skiles in February 1964 in Batesville, Arkansas and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2008. Surviving are her children Tena (husband Richard) Seymour of Beardstown and Kay Pettet of Ipava; three grandchildren Scott (wife Jennifer) Campbell, Marcie (husband Larry) Lenover Jr, and Ashley Pettet (fiancé Travis Shoemaker); and eight great grandchildren Kyle, Cameron, Conner, and Chloe Campbell, Madison Ruiz, Carly and Ross Lenover, and Karlie Richardson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson AJ Pettet, and one brother Robert L. “Sonny” Campbell. Deloras enjoyed listening to country music, coloring, playing bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7 PM Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials have been suggested to the family.

Nancy "Nan" Sloan, 1931-2006, Beardstown
   Nancy "Nan" Sloan, 75, of Beardstown, died Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 2006, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born July 12, 1931, in Rushville, the daughter of Henry and Elsie Krosher Tutt. She married Don Sloan on March 7, 1951, and he preceded her in death Sept. 4, 1985.
   She is survived by two daughters, Debbie (husband, Ted) Rhoades and Cindy Elliott, both of Winchester; two sons, Steve (wife, Stacy) and Mike (wife, Denise), both of Beardstown; seven grandchildren, Michelle Ellis, Alicia Stewart, Kimberly Gunter, Andrea Logan and Hayden, Ryan and Hayley Sloan; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob (wife, Peggy) Tutt of Austin, Texas; and one sister, Margie (husband, Don) Aten of Rushville.
   Mrs. Sloan graduated from Rushville High School in the class of 1949. She was employed as a teacher's aide in the Beardstown School District for 15 years until her retirement in 1997. She was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, Beardstown Emblem Club 474, where she served as president for two years, Beardstown Jaycees/Jayshes and Beardstown Lions Club. A very civic minded woman, she volunteered her time and service in numerous areas including delivering meals for Bread of Love, driving cancer and dialysis patients to appointments and assisting with the Bloodmobile. She was awarded "Citizen of the Year" of Beardstown in 1993.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, following services cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Rushville City Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice or Heritage Manor South Activity Fund.
