Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Roberts, died at her home, 1211 E. 9th St, Friday, May 30 at 9:30 p.m. after a stroke of paralysis of Tuesday evening, aged 73 years 8 months and 19 days.
   She was the mother of nine children, fine having preceded her in death, those surviving are four sons, C.A. Roberts of Hammond, IN, Tillman T. Roberts of Honolulu, Hawaii, H.D. and Luther L. Roberts of Beardstown. John Roberts, husband preceded her in death16 years ago. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist Church, Rev. G.L. Losh officiating. Interment in City Cemetery in the family lot.

G. Chris Roberts, 1942-2007, Timewell
   George Christy Roberts, 64, of Timewell, died Sunday morning, Jan. 7, 2007 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
   He was born May 6, 1942 in Quincy, the son of G. Leon and Dorothy Moore Roberts. He married Judy Tucker on Sept. 8, 1963, in Beardstown, and she survives.
   He is also survived by his mother of Mount Sterling; one son, Mark (wife, Sandi) of Timewell; two daughters, Kathy (husband, John) Rohrer of Timewell and Rita Roberts of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Matt and Aimee Roberts and Leah Rohrer, all of Timewell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; one son and one daughter, both in infancy; and one brother in infancy.
   Mr. Roberts graduated from Brown County High School with the Class of 1960 and attended both Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and Gem City Business College in Quincy. He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer. He enjoyed farming land in Illinois and Missouri and also ran a bulldozer in his spare time to improve his land. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Mt. Sterling where he served as elder.
   Mr. Roberts was an avid sportsman who enjoyed quail and mushroom hunting and truly loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Hardin Lodge No. 44 A.F. & A.M. and was also a Shriner.He was a past member of the Brown County Board for 12 years, a past member of the Brown County Board of Education, had served as chairman of the board for the First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling several times, was a former 4-H leader, was member of the Marion County Drainage District for over 20 years and had testified before Congress in Washington D.C. for the Marion County Drainage District regarding levee and lock and dam improvements on the upper Mississippi and Illinois river. He loved watching his children and grandchildren through their athletic programs and activities and was a proud hornet fan.
   Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling, with burial at Mounds Cemetery near Timewell. Friends may call any time after 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling, with the family meeting friends from 4-8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation. Friends may also call one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Jeanne L. Robertson 1926-2003 - Beardstown
   Jeanee L. Robertson, 77, of Beardstown, died Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2003, at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.
   She was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Beardstown, the daughter of Paul Edward and Helen Louise Hanks Brown. She married William L. Robertson July 7, 1945, in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death July 3, 1989.
   She is survived by two sons, Bill (wife, Angela) of rural Beardstown and David (wife, Bobette) of Bluff Springs; two daughters, Nancy (husband, Steve) Schnake of Virginia and Tina (husband, Michael) Morehead of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Joan (husband, Harris) Halvorson of Palm City, Fla.; three nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Edward Brown Jr., and four grandchildren.
   Mrs. Robertson graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1943 and then began her employment with Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Beardstown as a telephone operator for many years. She was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown where she sang in the choir, was a member of Alter Society, and was a member of the Mother Cabrini Study Group. She formerly served as president of the Beards School PTA in Beardstown and president of the Schmidt Memorial/Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs in Beardstown.
   Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beard Cemetery on North Bluff Springs Road near Beardstown. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with a rosary service being held 5 p.m. and the family will meet with friends after the rosary service until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.    Delores V. Robinson, 87, of rural Ashland, IL died Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   She was born July 4, 1926 in the Pleasant Plains area, the daughter of Harry and Martha Hagen Coffin.
   She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leroy A. Robinson Sr.; her son Leroy A. Robinson Jr. of rural Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Coffin; and a sister, Hazel Mann.
    Mrs. Robinson was a registered nurse formerly employed at area hospitals and doctor offices. She enjoyed flower gardening.

Gladys E. Robinson, 1929-2007, Beardstown
Gladys E. Robinson, 77, of Beardstown, died Saturday evening, April 28, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Monticello, Ky., the daughter of Charles Bluford and Myrtie Lynch Franklin. She married Robert Kennedy in 1947 and they had nine children. She later married Ray E. Robinson on Oct. 17, 1972.
   She is survived by three daughters, Sharon M. Steininger of Meredosia, Cathy E. Kennedy of Conrad, Mont., and Christine Bacon of Beardstown; five sons, Paul E. Kennedy of Beardstown, Benjamin R. Kennedy of Centralia, John J. Kennedy of Rushville, Frankie L. Kennedy of Springfield, and Kevin B. Kennedy of Jacksonville; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Taylor of Ohio and Mary Underwood of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by one son, David H. Kennedy; one sister, Mazie E. Martin; and two brothers, Homer L. and George Nelson Franklin.
   Mrs. Robinson was raised in Kentucky where she attended a one-room country school and completed sixth grade. She was taken out of school to help her parents in the tobacco fields and at home with the growing family. After her marriage she moved to Illinois, and in 1968 moved to Beardstown. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly in Meredosia. She retired in 1990 after many years of service at Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown.
   Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Beardstown, with burial 2 p.m. Wednesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. The family will meet with friends from 4 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. John H. 'Jack' Robinson, 1921-2007, Virginia
   John Harrison "Jack" Robinson, 86, of Virginia, died Sunday morning, Nov. 25, 2007, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   He was born May 12, 1921, in Jacksonville, the son of Carroll Oakley and Irene Stice Robinson. He married Mary Lee Bailey on Aug. 14, 1965, in Virginia, and she preceded him in death Dec. 4, 2006.
   He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Lee Hobrock of Virginia; one grandson, Scott (wife, Diana) Hobrock of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Oakley Robinson.
   Mr. Robinson served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 participating in the invasion of Tarawa and Okinawa during WW II. He farmed many years in the Prentice area and delivered propane for John B. Mann and Associates in the Ashland, Virginia and Pleasant Plains area. He was a graduate of Ashland High School where he was a track standout who still holds an event record today. He enjoyed gardening and faithfully rooting for the Chicago Cubs.
   Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with burial in Yatesville Cemetery, west of Prentice. The family will meet friends at the church from 2 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services. Mary Lee Robinson, 1924-2006, Virginia
   Mary Lee Robinson, 82, of Virginia, died Monday evening, Dec. 4, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Harry Arthur and Ethel Sanks Bailey. She married Jack Robinson on Aug. 14, 1965, in Virginia, and he survives.
   She is also survived by one daughter, Stephanie Lee Hobrock of Virginia; one grandson, Scott (wife, Diana) Hobrock of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. Robinson was a 1942 graduate of Virginia High School and attended Monmouth College. She later graduated from Robert Morris Business College. From 1957 to 1960, she was employed by CIPS and from 1960 to 1965 worked for the Cass County Extension Service. She later served for many years as a part-time secretary with the McClure, Brannan & Hardwick Law Firm.
   Mrs. Robinson was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia where she faithfully produced church bulletins over 13 years. An avid bridge player, she was a former 4-H leader and a former treasurer of the Virginia Woman's Club.
   Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with private burial at Yatesville Cemetery, west of Prentice.    Melford D. Robison, 65, of rural Chandlerville, died Sunday morning, March 30, 2003 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Jan. 24, 1938 in Kilbourne, the son of George H. and Vesta W. Wallace Robison. He married Phyllis A. Shoemaker Nov. 16, 1962 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County, Il. and she survives.
   He is also survived by two sons, Mick (wife, Teresa) of rural Chandlerville and Jamie (wife, Cathy) of rural Chandlerville; two grandchildren, Gilbert and Jacob Robison of rural Chandlerville; one brother, Ivan (wife, Clare) of Kilbourne; two sisters, Shirley (husband, Mike) Maletic of Peoria, Ariz. and Beverly (husband, Merle) Daniels of Kilbourne; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Mr. Robison was employed at Fiat-Allis in Springfield for 25 years. He was a graduate of Bath Balyki High School and served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Chandlerville American Legion Post #694 and Bethel Baptist Church.

   Edna M. Rochester, 88, of Virginia, IL died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born September 6, 1925 in White Hall, IL, the daughter of Charles and Viola Mae Cox DeShasier. She married Paul Elmer Rochester on June 24, 1944 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1984.
   She is survived by two sons, Dave Rochester (wife, Nancy) and Bob Rochester, all of Virginia; four grandchildren, Jody Racey (husband, Brad) of Jacksonville, Gena Huff (husband, Atwood) of Waverly, David Paul Rochester (wife, Chrissy) of Virginia, and Chris Patrick (wife, Angie) of Arenzville; numerous great grandchildren; four brothers, Tom, Bill, John, and Dan DeShasier; a sister, Harriet Lockart; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
   Edna was employed at Doherty’s Drug Store, Rossi’s Restaurant, and Virginia Inn Restaurant, all of Virginia.

   Annabell Rockwell, 82, of Beardstown, died early Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
   She was born on July 5, 1924, in Warren County near Berwick, the daughter of Roy and Lucy Friday Morris. She married Albert Rockwell on June 22, 1956, in Rushville, and he survives.
   She is also survived by four sons, John David, Paul Phillip (wife, Tammy), Roy Glen and James Andrew, all of Beardstown; three grandchildren, Courtney, Jimmie and Jacob Rockwell; two stepgrandchildren, Christian and Mikayla Alters; and one brother, Merle Morris of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva, Betty June, Velma and Hazel; three brothers, Howard, Floyd and Russell; and one stepbrother, Clifford "Tippy" Friday.
   Mrs. Rockwell attended a country grade school in Fulton County and was a member of Union Baptist Church in Beardstown. She operated a licensed day care from her home for several years and also worked at the Glove Factory in Beardstown.

Harlan G. Roegge, 1931-2012
   Harlan G. Roegge, 81, of Arenzville, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born June 14, 1931, in Jacksonville, the son of Walter W. and Selma Nobis Roegge.
   He is survived by three sisters, Lorraine (deceased husband, Baird) Quigg of Jacksonville and Joy (husband, Ray) Schnitker and Martha (husband, Ken) Phelps, both of Arenzville; four brothers, Kenneth (wife, Pat) Roegge of Arenzville, George (wife, Trudy) Roegge of Jacksonville and Charles Roegge and David (wife, Judy) Roegge, both of Arenzville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Vera Patterson (surviving husband, Bill [wife, Jeanette] Patterson of Clayton) and Freida Hines.
   Mr. Roegge was an assistant manager for Cass County Service Company in Virginia for many years. From 1951 to 1955, he served in the U.S. Navy, in the engine room aboard the USS Bearss. Mr. Roegge was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville. He was always happy to be tinkering on the farm, restoring old tractors, or visiting with friends in the coffee shops. He loved helping others.
   A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.    Robert Roegge, 60, of 1209 Jefferson St., Beardstown, died Saturday evening at Schmitt Memorial Hospital.
   He was born July 12, 1907 in Arenzville, a son of John and Emma Paul Roegge.
   Surviving are the wife, Helen; one son, Fred of Springfield; one daughter Mrs. LaVerne Stevens of Berwyn; three brothers, Walter of Arenzville, Edgar of Jacksonville and Paul of Peoria; three sisters, Laura Roegge of Arenzville; Mrs. Olga Werries of Meredosia, and Mrs. Selma Kelly of Carrollton; and one grandchild.
   Funeral services to be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward Lang officiating. Burial will be in Arenzville Cemetery.
   Friends may call at Northcutt Funeral Home from 7 to 9 pm. on Monday. The remains will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

ROGERS, Dennis "Ozzie"
Dennis "Ozzie" Rogers
   Dennis O. "Ozzie" Rogers, 89, of Virginia, IL died Monday, January 21, 2013 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.
   He was born November 15, 1923 in Kemp, Kentucky, the son of William S. and Emma Orr Rogers. He married Velma Darlene Walton on February 16, 1946 in Jacksonville and she survives.
   He is also survived by two sons, Duane Rogers of Jacksonville and Steve Rogers of Virginia; three grandchildren, Brieana Rogers and Brandon Rogers, both of Jacksonville and Amanda Williams of Virginia; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
   Ozzie worked in construction with the Laborers Union and was later employed by the Illinois Secretary of State for 12 years prior to his retirement. An Atlanta Braves fan, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

   James Donovan "Jimmy" Rogers, 62, of White Hall, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born April 8, 1948 in Cairo, IL the son of James Donovan Rogers and Iola Ethridge Burnett. Surviving is one brother Donald Eugene Rogers of Ferndale, WA; two sisters Nancy (husband Howard) Bell of Little Rock, AK, and Judith Fishel (companion Tim Harris) of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Sally Surratt. Jimmy recently worked in the cafeteria at the Pathway School in Jacksonville. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM, February 25, 2011 at the Beardstown City Cemetery. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

   Wilma L. Rodgers, 79, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Jacksonville, the daughter of John M. and Leta Rogers Spradlin. She married Gean O. Rodgers on April 15, 1950, in Franklin and he preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2005.
   She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Michael Rodgers of Springfield, David (Dixie) Rodgers of Wichita Falls, TX, Tim Rodgers of Union Point, GA and Lu Anne (Steve) Murphy of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Eric) Holmes and Daniel (Patty) Murphy, both of Winchester, and Madison and Mark Rodgers, both of Union Point, GA; five great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister, John (Shirley) Spradlin of Jacksonville, Lee (Leona) Spradlin of Springfield, Lisle (Mary Ruth) Spradlin of Jacksonville, Gordon (Barbara) Spradlin of Pittsfield and Sue (Fred) Walker of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Murl Spradlin, Lyndal Spradlin (surviving wife Charlene of Torrence, CA) and Charles Spradlin at birth.
   Mrs. Rodgers was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School. She and her husband owned and operated Rodgers Upholstery for 25 years until her retirement in 2007. Wilma was a member of Franklin United Methodist Church and American Sewing Guild, and she enjoyed attending Bible Study. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Franklin United Methodist Church, with burial at Franklin Cemetery. Clarence B. Root, 94, of Rushville, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Culbertson Long Term Care Facility in Rushville.
   He was born Aug. 6, 1903, in Rushville, the son of the late George W. and Della May (Lang) Root. He married Marie A. Krohe on Oct. 11, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa. She survives.
   Also surviving are two sons, Byron F. Root and wife Rosemary of Pawnee and Clarence M. Root and wife Elizabeth of Decatur, Ala.; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Ida Mae) Justh of Rockville, Md., and Mrs. Ed (Roberta) DeMoss of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, John W. Root of Rushville. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Stephen DeMoss; seven brothers, George Curtis, Jesse, Chester, William, Homer Roscoe "Joe," Ernest Virgil "Bud" and Lloyd Root; and two Sisters, Mary Etta Root and Bertha Faye Rohn.
   He was a school teacher for 43 years, teaching at the Davis, Ward No.2, Ward No.1, Pokeberry, Young, Oakwood, Hale Ridge, Kinderhook, and Rushville Junior High Schools and was a substitute teacher for eight years, after his retirement in 1968.
   He was a member of the Beardstown Church of the Nazarene.

   RUSHVILLE - Marie A. Root, 98, of Rushville, died Monday. evening, Oct 14, 2002, at Culbertson Longterm Care Facility in Rushville.
   She was born Sept 24, 1904, in Beardstown, the daughter of J.A. Felix and Ida M. Hendricker Krohe. She married Clarence B. Root Oct. 11, 1935, at the Free Methodist Church in Davenport, Iowa, and he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1998.
   She is survived by two sons, Byron F. (wife, Rose Mary) of Pawnee, and Clarence M. (wife, Elizabeth) of Decatur, Ala. two daughters, Ida Mae (husband, Bruce) Justh of Rockville, Md., and Roberta (husband, Ed) DeMoss of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grand-children; and two brothers, Elmer L. (wife, Onea) Krohe of Springfield, and Oliver A (wife, Elizabeth "Betty") Krohe of Beardstown. She was preceded in death by one grandson; three brothers, Paul Felix Krohe, Arthur Charles Krohe and Phillip Henry Krohe and three sisters, Henrietta Julia Carls, Edna Alberta Krohe and Dorothy Christine Williams.
   Mrs. Root was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed weaving rugs. She was a member of the Beardstown Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school, and she was a 4- H leader for many years.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville, with burial at Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral Chapel. Nedra T. Roskelley - 1919-2003 - Chandlerville
   Nedra T. Roskelley, 86, of Chandlerville, died Saturday morning, July 5, 2003, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
   She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Roy L. and Edna Willey Tribe. She married Dr. Rigby Roskelley on Sept. 9, 1938, in Salt Lake City, and he preceded her in death May 13, 1999.
   She is survived by four sons, Ron (wife, Georgia) of Monett, Mo., David (wife, Mary) of Crystal Lake, John (wife, Susie) of Walla Walla, Wash., and Jim (wife, Paula) of Havana; one daughter, Becky Berg of Chandlerville; and two brothers, Howard Tribe of Ogden, Utah, and Royal Tribe of Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.
   Mrs. Roskelley was a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Jacksonville and a member of the Relief Society of the Church.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Humanitarian Aid of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville.

   Mrs. Kenneth 'Faye' Ross, 73, 509 West Main St., Beardstown, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Kloker of South Beardstown drainage district at 10:15 a.m. Sunday Feb. 19. [1989]
   She was born February 26, 1915 in Beardstown, the daughter of Curtis and Clara Dozier Logsdon. She married Kenneth Ross August 25, 1931 at Beardstown. He survives.
   She is also survived by: three daughters, Mrs. James 'Clara' Kloker, Rt. #1, Arenzville; Mrs. Don 'Helen' Long, Mt. Sterling; and Mrs. Charles 'Betty' Birdsell, Chandlerville; one son, ALbert Ross, Beardstown; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by: her parents, one grandson, David Kenneth Kloker and two brothers.
   Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Beardstown City Cemetery with Pastor James Beaty of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown officiating.
   Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

ROSS, Robert
   Sad Accident - On last Wednesday, about 4 o'clock, P.M. Robert Ross, a farmer living 3 1/2 miles north of Virginia, went to the field, in company with a young son, to haul oats. He loaded a small load on the wagon and started home, and by some means, lost his balance and fell from the wagon, injuring his spinal column, and causing his death in the course of seven hours. Mr. Ross was a hardworking citizen. He was buried at Sugar Grove Cemetery yesterday.

   Velma Versie Ross, 97, of Virginia, died Friday morning, Dec. 7, 2006, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born March 24, 1909, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., the daughter of William and Mary Pierce Stidman. She married Paul Ross on Aug. 19, 1926, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and he preceded her in death in 1970.
   She is survived by two sons, Wayne (wife, Ramona) and Larry Dale (wife, Darlene), both of the state of Washington; one daughter, Waseeta (husband, James) Sidebottom of Palm Harbor, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, James, Sonny and Frankie Joe; one daughter, Juanita Caldwell; and 12 siblings.
   Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    William "Bill" Rossi Jr., 91 years, of Virginia, IL died Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2005 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown, IL.
   He was born February 17, 1914 in Auburn, IL; the son of William Sr. And Josephine Hock Rossi. He married Wilma H. Wallner on September 1, 1935 in Chatham, IL and she preceded in death on December 18, 1993.
   He is survived by son, Henry "Butch" Rossi of Lake Worth, FL; two daughters, Mary Jo Smith (husband, H.B.) Of Virginia and Donna Smith (husband, James) of St. Augustine, FL; 12 grandchildren, Michael Smith (wife, Roxan) of Moorecroft, WY, Debbie Mansfield (husband, G.R.) of Virginia, Susan Dahms (husband, Jeff) of Muskegon, MI, David Smith (wife, Carla) of Virginia, Anthony Rossi of Riverton, Brad Rossi of San Francisco, CA, Neal Rossi (wife, Rita) of Jacksonville, Jay Smith (wife, Dale) of Jacksonville, FL, Carrie Methvan (husband, Thomas) of Hastings, FL, Virginia Smith of St. Augustine, FL, Greg Smith (wife, Holly) of Hastings, FL, and Katie Kelly (husband, John) of Elkton, FL; 24 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Middleton of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Rossi.
   Mr. Rossi was a graduate of Auburn High School. He co-founded the East Side Tavern with his family, the first tavern in Virginia following prohibition. He later owned and operated Rossi's Restaurant for 14 years on the Virginia square, retiring in 1975. He also served on the Virginia Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and was a former member of the Virginia Kiwanis Club and the Beardstown Elks Lodge.

   A Swiss man named Roth, working on the Mathias Kruse farm some four miles from here went to the barn to lay down hay. That was the last he was seen until 4 pm Saturday when his body was found in an unused well. A verdict of suicide was given by a jury. He had worked for Mr. Kruse for a year. He had a mother, brothers and sisters in Switzerland.

Dr. John Martin Roth, August 27, 1931-October 29, 2014
   Dr. John Martin Roth, 83, a native of Ashland, IL, passed away on October 29, 2014, at the William F. Green Veteran's Home in Bay Minette, AL. He was born August 27, 1931, in Springfield, the eldest son of the late John Joseph and Eula (Reiser) Roth. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia (Boyle) Roth; his daughter, Karen (Tom) Belina of Daphne, AL; son John William (Kate) Roth of Jacksonville, IL; daughter, Kristina (Steve) Stone of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Katherine and Thomas Belina; Sophie, John Daniel and James Roth; and brother, William Roth of Ashland, IL. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Thompson of Springfield, IL.
   Mr. Roth was a 1949 graduate of Ashland High School. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer as an electrician aboard the USS Askari during the Korean War. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He went on to earn his PhD from the University of Illinois in 1974. He taught agricultural science in Santiago, Chile with USAID. Later, he worked in Sierra Leone, West Africa gathering data for his PhD thesis on vocational programs in developing countries. His research was funded by the first award to a U of I student from the Midwest University Consortium for International Activities. Most of his professional career was with the Alabama State Department of Education in Montgomery, AL working in vocational program research and development. Upon retirement, he and his wife returned home to Ashland, IL.
   He was involved in many church and community activities while living in Alabama, including serving on the Archdiocesan School Board for the Archdiocese of Mobile, AL. He will be remembered for his professionalism in addressing economic inequalities and their impact on the poor and struggling in society. His vision was both passionate and informed. Throughout his professional life, he eschewed the title of “Dr”. The titles which meant the most to him were son, brother, husband, uncle, dad, and grandpa.
   Mr. Roth enjoyed nurturing the many trees, shrubs and flowers which filled his yard. There was always a garden in his backyard. During harvest season, no one left the house without a basket or bag of something. Although the man left the farm, the farm never left the man.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland, IL. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the St. Augustine Cemetery in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation's Trees in Memory Program (shop.arborday.org).    Luther Allen "Luke" Roy, 60, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at his residence in LaBelle, FL.
   He was born January 20, 1953, in Norfolk Co., VA, the son of Lester Allen and Sylvan Edistina Smith Roy. He married Debby Cunningham on Sept. 22, 2012, at Starlite Campers in Jacksonville, and she survives.
   He is also survived by his step mother, Beverly Lloyd; three children, Jimmy (wife, Rhonda) Roy, Lucretia (husband, Jeff) Clark, and Tonya Roy (fiancĂ©, Terry Willis); two step children, Krista Blakey and Robert (wife, Aubrey) Blakey; one brother, Michael (wife, Cheryl) Roy; eight sisters, Cynthia "Cindy" Rechner, Debra "Debbie" McGrath (fiance, Russ Hayes), Leslie (husband, Lannie) Spreitzer, Mary (husband, Jeff) Cromer, Pam Roy, Katie Hakie, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Roy, and Sally (husband, Mikie)Dant; 14 grandchildren; and special cousins, Roger Smith, Linda Mahoney, Betty Patterson, and Gary Gabehart.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Ed and Maggie Smith and Luther and Katie Simpson.
   Mr. Roy was an avid motorcycle rider and a member of the Masons. He also loved to cook and fish.
   Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland, with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery, near Pleasant Plains.
