Donald Ray Nash, August 6, 1946-August 5, 2011
Donald Ray Nash, 65, of Beardstown died Saturday, August 6, 2011, in his home. He was born August 6, 1946 in Bunker, MO, the son of William and Virginia Hubbard Nash. He married Sally Ann Bell in July 1965 in Beardstown and she preceded him in death on February 1, 1989. Surviving is his brother Gene (wife Betty) Nash of Beardstown; his sister Shirley (husband Jim) Bush of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Bill, Leroy, Ronnie and Harold, and three sisters Willa Dean Larkin, Violet Johnson, and Janet Meyers. Donald was formerly employed with Brown Shoe Company in Pittsfield and Beardstown Laundry, Trinity Steel, and Excel Corporation all in Beardstown. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 PM Friday, August 12, 2011, at Beardstown City Cemetery. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Harold W. Nash, 1950-2007, Beardstown
Harold W. Nash, 56, of Beardstown, died Sunday evening, June 3, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Aug. 7, 1950, in Bunker, Mo., the son of William and Virgie Hubbard Nash. He married Brenda Miller on Dec. 5, 1980, in Beardstown and she survives.
He is also survived by four sons, Tom of Keokuk, Iowa, Troy of Jacksonville, and Mike and Gary, both of Illinois; four grandchildren; two brothers, Gene and Donald, both of Beardstown; two sisters, Shirley Lawson of Beardstown and Janet Meyers of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill, Leroy and Ronnie; and two sisters, Willa Dean Larkin and Violet Johnson.
Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the graveside service today at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].
NAYLOR, Donald William Naylor - August 24, 1956 - August 27, 2008M
Donald William Naylor, 52, of Petersburg, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 2:27 pm at his residence.
He was born on August 24, 1956 in Springfield to George Thomas and Rosetta Drennan Naylor.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Naylor of New Jersey; two daughters, Casey and Nichole Naylor of Rantoul; three brothers, Dale Naylor of Ashland, Raymond Charles Grover of Petersburg, and Glenn Grover of New Jersey; and two sisters, Deborah Say of Petersburg, and Joyce Baptist of Ashland.
His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Naylor was a veteran of the US Army. He was self employed as a construction contractor.

Nelson, Franklin - February 25, 1955-January 9, 2010
Franklin Nelson, 54, of Pueblo West, Colorado (formerly of Virginia, Illinois), died at his home Saturday January 9 after a long illness with respiratory problems. He was born in Beardstown, Illinois on February 25, 1955 the son of Hal and Helen
Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Valenti, of Beardstown.
Survivors include his wife Frances Rivera, children Kelly and Gale Nelson and Raeann Martinez, grandchildren Denver and Drake Nelson, Christopher, Denisia, and Joey Martinez, brother Wayne (wife Mary Ann) Nelson, of Virginia, Illinois, in-laws Debbie Valente, of Beardstown, Illinois, Flora Rivera, Rose (husband Mike) Hohertz, Joey and Stanley Rivera, June (husband Manuel) Marquez, Frank's best friend Gilbert (wife Kathy) Martinez, all of Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.
Frank was a Vietnam War veteran and retired as a lieutenant from the Colorado Department of Corrections. In 2000 he was awarded the State of Colorado Purple Heart for injuries he received in a prison attack. To date Frank has been the only recipient of this honor.
Funeral services were held on Thursday January 14, 2010 at the Ecumenical Church of Pueblo West. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Upon the return of spring his wife Fran will bring Frank back to Illinois and his family and friends will spread his ashes at sites that he enjoyed in life. Although he left this earth much too soon he enjoyed every day to the fullest.

Gwendolyne M. Neumann
Gwendolyne M. Neumann, 94 years, of Alhambra, Calif and formerly of Arenzville, died Friday morning, April 4, 2003 at Garfield Hospital in Monterey Park, Calif.
She was born Nov. 24, 1908 in Arenzville; the daughter of Andrew and Annie Cremeans Proudfit. She married the Rev. Kenneth Bruno Neumann Aug. 13, 1924 in Lake Geneva, WI and he preceded in death in Jan. 1972.
She is survived by two sons, David (wife, Joan) of Carefree, Ariz. and James (wife, Jean) of Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter, Krista (husband, Philip) Latham of Los Angeles, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Neumann; a brother, George Proudfit; and two sisters, Inez Canatsey and Wanda Wessler.
Mrs. Neumann was a homemaker and teacher, having taught in rural Arenzville and Chicago area schools. She has been a member of several Lutheran churches including St. Peter's Lutheran Church of rural Arenzville, Grace Lutheran Church of Peoria, and Luther Memorial Lutheran Church of Chicago which her husband served as pastor.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs with burial at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Arenzville. Friends may call at the church from 12 noon until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Chantal Newberry, 73, of Beardstown died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown. She was born September 26, 1937 in Beardstown, the daughter of George and Dorothy Embree Newberry. Surviving is her son Franklin “Junior” Chesnutt of Beardstown; her daughter Marian (husband Roger) Welker of Beardstown; eight grandchildren John, Angela, Jessica, Jordan, Jennifer, Amanda, Amy, and Adam; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters Dorothy Schroeder of WI, Goldie (husband Bill) Chestnut of Rushville, and Brenda (husband Charles) Hazelwood of Dixon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Catherine Chesnutt, one great grandson Randall, and two sisters Hazel Newberry and Kathy Turner. Chantal was employed over 20 years as a nurse’s aid at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven in Rushville. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and riding horses. LeRoy Newberry for more than fifty years a farmer in this county, died at his residence in Springfield, Friday morning at 5:30 o'clock.
Coroner John P. Knox said apparently an attack of acute indigestion caused his death.
Mr. Newberry had been a resident of Springfield for the past year. He was 82 years old.
He was born near Pleasant View, Schuyler county in 1852.
In May 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Jacobs who survives with the following children: Mrs. D.A. Crwsswhit, Joplin, MO; Mrs. Charles F. Dawson, Mrs. Ethel Smith, Mrs. Hazel Sullivan, all of Springfield, Mrs. Gertrude Fletcher, Hannibal, MO; Roy Newberry, Arenzville; Charles Newberry, Ashland, Borrk Newberry, Springfield; Reuben Newberry of this city, and Albert Newberry of Quincy. there are also 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Springfield at 2:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon. The remains were then brought to Virginia for interment in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
NEWELL, Robert L. - January 22, 1927-July 4, 2015
Robert L. Newell, 88, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Ashland, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Delmar Gardens South in St. Louis.
Bob was born on January 22, 1927, in Springfield, IL, the only child of Ralph and Edith (Votsmier) Newell, and the beloved husband of Mary Lou (Petefish) Newell for 61 years.
He graduated from Ashland High School in 1944 and received a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1949. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1947, he joined the American Legion (Ashland) and was proud to be a member for the past 67 years.
Following his college graduation, Bob joined the family-owned Newell Insurance Agency and was owner for 39 years. Community service was important throughout his life. In 1953, Bob was elected Mayor of Ashland and served for a number of years on the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department. As chairman of the Feasibility Study Committee, Bob guided a committee of 25 school districts into the founding of Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL. He served as president of the Illinois Insurance Agents Association and for four years was a member of the national committee to create and develop standards for the insurance industry, ACORD, which has since become a world-wide organization.
Bob touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, sense of humor, and strong faith. He was a lifetime parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He volunteered for four years at St. Johns Hospice (Springfield, IL) and three years at St. Josephs Hospital (Hot Springs, AR).
While living in Ashland, Bob became a bonsai enthusiast, tending to the many trees he grew in his outdoor greenhouse. In 1993, Bob and Mary Lou moved from Ashland to Hot Springs Village, AR and in 2004, moved to the St. Louis area to reside in Garden Villas South Retirement Community.
Bob is survived by his spouse, Mary Lou. He will be greatly missed by his children: Stephen (Leah) Newell of Springfield, IL, Janet (Dennis) Thomas of Fults, IL, Margaret (Dave) McLaughlin of Arlington Heights, IL, and Kathleen (Don) Angle of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren: Liz (Chris Malerich) Newell of Dayton, OH, Andy Newell of Redwood City, CA, John Thomas of St. Louis, Jathan (Chelsea) McLaughlin of Phoenix, Patrick McLaughlin of Chicago, Rob McLaughlin of Chicago, Matt Angle of Jackson Hole, WY, Laura Angle of Madison, WI, Greg (Nicole) Angle of Columbus, OH; and great grandchildren, Margot McLaughlin and Dean Malerich.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 7, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland, preceded by a prayer service at 4:45 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland with burial and military honors at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery, west of Ashland. Died here at her residence Sept. 25th, Mrs. Esther J. Newman. She was born in Scott county, IL, July 26, 1827. At the age of 13, she joined the Methodist Church. She married J. Newman, who died in 1880. They were the parents of 10 children, only 6 survive. they being, Nelson of here, Hattie Watts of Winchester, IL, George of Putnam, MT, Charley of Eldora, KS, Maggie Stribling, who resides two miles southwest of here, and Herbert at home. Mr. & Mrs. Newman came to Ashland in 1866, occupying the building now called the Transit House. Later they moved to Jacksonville and St. Louis and then returned here.The funeral was Tuesday at the Methodist Church and interment in Jacksonville East cemetery, beside her husband.

Virgil Newman - 1923-2010
Virgil L. Newman of Petersburg, died March 4, 2010 at the Menard Convalescent Center. Mr. Newman was born September 25, 1923 on a farm near Chandlerville, IL. He was a lifelong farmer, the son of Lee Roy Newman and Elsie Leinberger. Mr. Newman farmed in the Ashland area for 28 years on the Stribling and Edwards Farm. He was a life long Lutheran. He married Carol Ruppel on April 6, 1952 at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Petersburg.
He is survived by his wife Carol, and their four children, Robert (Wife, Sandra) of Tallula, Margaret Perez (husband, Jerome) of Sycamore, Gloria Newman of St. Louis and Marsha Valles (husband, Andy) of Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Also surviving are three sisters, Ellen Jurgens of Virginia, Roberta Ruppel of Petersburg, and Idella (husband, Richard) Ruppel of Chandlerville; one brother Arthur (wife, Bonnie) of Petersburg; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Pastor Jeffrey Gross will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

CHANDLERVILLE, IL - Michael "Nick" Wayne Nicholas, 68, passed away on October 10, 2014, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born August 14, 1946, in Culver City, Calif., to William and Virginia (Jewett) Nicholas.
Mr. Nicholas is survived by two sons, Samuel Nicholas of Ashland and Nathan Nicholas of Havana; one daughter, Sunshine Newell of New Berlin; eight grandchildren, Mia McKee, and Misty, Alicia, Sicely, Serena, Christopher, Gage and Juston Nicholas; six great-grandchildren, Miyah and Mariyah Edwards, Malakhi Rucker, Myca, Mylee and Myles Mckee; one brother, Tom Nicholas; and two sisters, Margaret Nicholas and Donna Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Nicholas; and daughter, Korrina Nicholas.
Nick was a member of the Universal Life Church, ABATE and American Harley Express. He had worked for the Railroad for many years. He volunteered and supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville, Ill. Cremation rites will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.

Jamima (Mrs. J.S.) Nicholson died the 10th. She was born in Traro, Cornwall, England, October 23, 1835. She came with her parents, Joseph and Martha Harris at age 3, first to Kentucky and then Cass County. She was a graduate of Jacksonville Female College. Death was due to complications of diabetis. Burial was in the family grounds over the bluffs.

J.S. Nicholson was born February 14, 1832, in Oldham, England, son of Charles and Mary (Needham) Nicholson. He died April 19, 1911, and is buried in Oak Grove cemetery, Beardstown. His first wife was Jemima Harris, their only child died young and she died in 1873. He then married Eliza Jane Buck, and they had a son, Edgar. The Nicholson's came to America in 1850, settling near Beardstown. John began as an office boy in the newspaper business and was later editor and proprietor of the Beardstown Illinoian in 1877. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Stanley W. Niederer, 86, of Havana, passed away at 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born January 7, 1924 in Long Branch, near Havana, IL to William and Minnie (Nehmelman) Niederer.
Mr. Niederer is survived by one daughter, Tina Turner, of Bloomington, two sons, Gary Niederer and Paul (Angie) Niederer, both of Havana as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Gary and his daughters will be hosting a gathering of his friends and family will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Odd Fellow?s Hall in Havana on Saturday, February 13, 2010.

Well Known Farmer Dies Suddenly Sunday
Funeral services were held here on Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for Harry Niestradt, 44 well known farmer in this community, in charge of Rev. J. C. Shull pastor of the local Presbyterian church, and the Rev. K. B. Neumann, pastor of the St. Peter's Lutheran church near Arenzville.
The decedent, who lived four miles northeast of Virginia died a few minutes after midnight Sunday at the hospital in Beardstown. He had been suffering the past two weeks from kidney infection. His condition seemed improved last week and he was released Friday morning, but became worse and reentered the hospital that night.
Surviving him are his wife and two children, Gerald 6, and a baby girl, Elizabeth, besides his mother, Mrs. William Niestradt of Arenzville, a brother, Richard Niestradt west of Arenzville and a sister, Mrs. Geo. Huffman, of Arenzville.
