Alice Marie (Hays) Lebkuecher (December 9, 1923-February 5, 2011
   Alice M. Lebkuecher, 87, of Beardstown died Saturday afternoon February 5, 2011 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown. She was born December 9, 1923 near Black Oak Church in rural Beardstown, the daughter of John Alvin and Ruth Barbara Jaggers Hays. She married Robert George Long on November 1, 1942 and he preceded her in death in August of 1950. She then married Charles Lebkuecher on November 9, 1957 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and he preceded her in death in February of 1988. Surviving is her daughter Carolyn (husband Garth) Cripe of Astoria, her son John Robert Long of Jacksonville, her daughter-in-law Joan Lebkuecher of Glen Carbon, one brother John A. (wife Evelyn) Hays of Jacksonville, four grandchildren Todd Cripe of Vandalia, MO, Scott (wife Amanda) Cripe of Lewistown, Conner and Julia Hannon of Glen Carbon, and 5 great-grandchildren Landon, Megan, Lydia, Charlie, and Adah. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Chuck Lebkuecher. Alice attended the Black Oak Grade School, graduated from Beardstown High School in the Class of 1941 and was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. She was a bookkeeper for Hardwick Farms in Beardstown from 1978 to 1997, and prior to that had worked for the Bluff Springs Elevator, Philadelphia Elevator, Dr. Davidsmeyer, Dr. Merrihew, CIPS, and Pat and Linda Harris. She was known to be a great baseball player in her younger years. Memorial services for Alice M. Lebkuecher will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday February 12, 2011 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. The family will be meeting friends one hour prior to services at the church. Burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date in the Beardstown City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been suggested for the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. John A. Leinberger, December 15, 2006
   John A. Leinberger, 80 years, of Jacksonville, IL and formerly of Chandlerville, IL died Friday morning, December 15, 2006 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born March 2, 1926 in Cass County, IL; the son of Edward Andrew and Edith Davis Leinberger. He married Ida Belle Clemons on August 24, 1948 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, IL and she survives.
   He is also survived by three sons, John W. "Bill" Leinberger of Jacksonville, Donald L. Leinberger (wife, Julie) of Jacksonville, and James A. Leinberger (wife, Rita) of Chandlerville; a daughter, Anita S. Stephans (husband, Tom) of Springfield; three granddaughters, Sara Leinberger (fiance), Timothy Yowell) of Jacksonville, April Leinberger of Chandlerville, and Katie Leinberger of Chandlerville; a great grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
   He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward L. Leinberger (surviving wife, Doris of Chandlerville).
   Mr. Leinberger farmed in Cass County several years prior to joining Edge Feed and Trucking Service, where he drove for 35 years until his retirement in 1988. He was recognized for his trucking achievements at the Route 66 Truckers Hall of Fame in McLean, IL. From 1993 to 2003, he served as a courtesy and transfer driver for several area auto dealerships. He was a life long member and former deacon of Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville. He enjoyed playing cards and drinking coffee with friends.
   Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 18, 2006 at Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville with burial in Chandlerville Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Friends may call from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville. John Patrick Leinberger, 1985-2007, Virginia
   John Patrick Leinberger, 21, of Virginia, died on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, in rural Cass County.
   He was born on Nov. 3, 1985 in Springfield, the son of Bret and Marilyn Richardson Leinberger.
   He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Marilyn and Brian Bell of Virginia; one sister, Jenna Leinberger of Virginia; one stepbrother, Kylor Bell of Beardstown; one step sister, Kembra Bell of Beardstown; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Leinberger of Petersburg; maternal grandparents, Merle and Ruth Richardson of Franklin; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and father.
   Mr. Leinberger had formerly worked at a Teen Reach after school program at A-C Central School. He was employed in sales at Cingular Wireless in Jacksonville. He was a member of the Ashland Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing soccer, and played in a Springfield league. He also enjoyed hanging out with friends and family.
   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Petersburg, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Memorials are suggested to the Cass County Health Department Teen Reach program.
NOTE: Mr. Leinberger was killed in an auto accident in rural Virginia, IL.

   Phyllis Eleanor Leinberger, 81, of Petersburg, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg. She was born October 30, 1925 in rural Cass County, to Roscoe and Virgie McHenry Anderson. She married John Leinberger in Petersburg in 1951. They were later divorced.
   She is survived by one son Bart (Rhonda) Leinberger of Petersburg; three daughters, Beverly Leinberger, Barbara Rebbe and Brenda (Kenny) White, all of Petersburg; one daughter-in-law Marilyn (Brian) Bell of Virginia; four sisters, Lucille Lutes, Roberta Stroh and Virginia Winkelmann, all of Oakford and Esther Fricke of Petersburg; four brothers, Gerald "Andy" Anderson of Pinehurst, NC, Robert (Wanda) Anderson of Petersburt and Art (Jackie) Anderson and Gene (Glenda) Anderson, all of Oakford; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by one son, Bret Leinberger; one grandson, John Leinberger; one brother, Randall Anderson and her parents.
   She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She has worked as a nurses aide at Shamel Manor and Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg. She also worked for the Schirding State Bank in Petersburg. She gracduated from Petersburg/Harris High School in 1943. She was also and avid Cub and Illini fan.
   Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Bethelehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg, with Pastor Jeffrey Gross officiating.
   Hurley Funeral Home in Petersbug was in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Menard County Ambulance or Sunny Acres Home.

   Gertrude Leinweber, 95, of Virginia and formerly of Washington, died Saturday morning, May 16, 2009, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born May 18, 1913, in Luther, Tenn., the daughter of Harvey and Linda Odom Wilder. She married Emanuel Leinweber on June 30, 1938, in Pekin, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2003.
    She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (Robert) Jokisch of Virginia and Rosalie (Ronald) Eggert of Hastings, Minn.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
   Gertrude was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. She was instrumental in helping two immigrant families become a part of the Washington community.
   Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington. Maurice H. Lehmkuhl (1918 - 2010)
   Maurice Henry Lehmkuhl, 91, of Beardstown, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
   He was born April 24, 1918, in Beardstown, the son of Garry and Mary Whited Lehmkuhl. He married Mary E. Osborn on Nov. 24, 1946, in Beardstown.
   Surviving is his wife, Mary E. Lehmkuhl of Beardstown; his son, Maurie (wife, Anna) Lehmkuhl of Beardstown; two daughters, Marsha Lehmkuhl and Jo Lehmkuhl, both of Beardstown; four grandchildren, Mark (wife, Amy) Lehmkuhl of Denver, Michael Lehmkuhl of Taylorville, Michelle (husband, Chris) Petri of St. Louis and Devon (companion, Crystal Fry) Lehmkuhl of Jacksonville; and eight great-grandchildren, Brennen, Triston, Morgan, Logan, Ashley, Cody, Chance and Beau. He was preceded in death by his parents; three great-grandsons, Jack, Colin and Henry; one brother, Bill Lehmkuhl; and four sisters, Naomi Dieu, Alverta "Sis" Anderson, Mary Pointer and Elaine Dufelmeier.
   Mr. Lehmkuhl graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a life member of the Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown and a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown where he formerly served on the church council. Mr. Lehmkuhl was formerly employed with CB&Q and then Burlington-Northern Railroads until his retirement in 1986 where he served as general chairman of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He was extremely passionate as he volunteered his time with the Beardstown Baseball Association as a coach and umpire for several years. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and riding with his family in their pontoon boat on Schy-Rush Lake in the summers. He will be remembered as a die-hard Cubs fan, one who loved to laugh and tell jokes, and an exceedingly devoted husband, dad and grandpa.
   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Burial will be at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Baseball Association.

Jacobo Leyva Leon, 1977-2007, Beardstown
   Jacobo Leyva Leon, 30, of Beardstown, and formerly of Cardenas, Tabasco, Mexico, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Beardstown.
   He was born June 19, 1977, in Cardenas, Tabasco, Mexico, the son of Fernando Levya Cordova and Patricia Leon Manuel. He married Edith Hernandez Trinidad, and she survives.
   He is also survived by his parents; one son, Luis Fernando Leyva Hernandez; three brothers; and one sister.
   Mr. Leyva was the goalie for the Beardstown soccer team that won the local soccer championship for three years.
   Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until noon Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Following visitation, his remains will be sent to Cardenas, Tabasco, Mexico, for burial.

LEONARD, Carrie - Beardstown Central Illinoian, Nov. 23, 1871
Died in this city on Mon., Nov. 20th, Carrie, wife of George Leonard. She was 37 and had been ill four weeks. Interment was in Chandlerville.

   Mrs. Daniel Leonard died Thursday the 8th at her residence.

LEWIS, Aziriah - Beardstown Enterprise, Aug. 6, 1898
   Aziriah Lewis died in Richmond Precinct, Aug. 2, at his home five miles southeast of Chandlerville. He was born in Washington County, KY Mar. 15, 1813. He married Sarah Graham, Feb. 1832. They were the parents of seven children, five who survive, being, Elizabeth Deering, Nancy Watkins, Mary Creed, Caroline Gibson and Kilborn Lewis, all of Cass County except Mrs. Gibson of Oakford, IL. His first wife died in 1863, he then married Mrs. Mary Hammer in 1864. They had a son, Charles, who survives as do 37 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Joan J. Leonard, 1928-2006
   Joan J. Leonhard, 78, of Virginia, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at her winter residence in Donna, Texas.
   She was born Jan. 27, 1928 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Jimmie and Margaret Thompson Jones. She married Norman K. Leonhard on Aug. 14, 1949, at the Arenzville Methodist Church, and he survives.
   She is also survived by three daughters, Karla (husband, Howard "Hank") Daubs of Mason City, Lois (husband, John) Dotzert and Marie (husband, Bob) Parlier of Virginia; six grandchildren, Tina (husband, Ralph) Weller of Beardstown, Shawn (wife, Carmen) Daubs of Lincoln), Jeremy Dotzert, Mandy Lyons (husband, Brad) and Chris (wife, Simone) Parlier, all of rural Virginia, and Jim Parlier (companion, Rebecca Elam) of Spring Valley; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette (husband, Bill) Jones of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Leonhard was a graduate of Virginia High School and upon graduation worked a few years for a book bindery in Jacksonville. She served several years as a school bus driver for the Virginia School District and was involved with her husband in many business ventures in the Virginia area including Leonard Apartments, Red Shed Antiques, Wash Bucket Laundromat and Highway House Restaurant. She was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia. A former volunteer leader, she was dedicated to the area 4-H program and devoted many hours to the Cass County 4-H Fair for many years.
   Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services and ash committal at Walnut Ridge Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Virginia School Foundation or Cass County 4-H Fair Association. Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of arrangements.    Memorial services for Joan J. Leonhard, who died Friday Dec. 22, 2006, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Leonhard residence, 350 E. Illini St., Virginia. The family will meet friends following the services at the residence. A private family burial was previously conducted at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.

   Norman Kruse Leonhard, 85, of Virginia, IL passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   He was born March 10, 1927 in Springfield, IL; the son of Floyd McKinley and Freda Barbara Kruse Leonhard. He married Joan Jones on August 14, 1949 in Arenzville, IL and she preceded in death on December 22, 2006.
   He is survived by three daughters, Karla (husband, Howard "Hank") Daubs of Mason City, Lois (husband, John) Dotzert of rural Virginia, and Marie (husband, Bob) Parlier of rural Virginia; a brother, John F. Leonhard of St. Louis Park, MN; six grandchildren, Tina (husband, Ralph) Weller, Shawn (wife, Carmen) Daubs, Jeremy Dotzert (companion, Pam Christensen), Mandy (husband, Brad) Lyons, Jim Parlier (companion, Rebecca Elam), Chris (wife, Simone) Parlier; and nine great grandchildren, Cole and Taylor Johnson, Bella Daubs, Emma Grace and Tucker Lyons, Kyle Elam, Mark Parlier, and Lindy and Maggie Parlier.
   Norman grew up in Cass County and was a 1945 graduate of Virginia High School. He served 14 months in the United States Naval Reserve Corps. He farmed jointly with his father on the family farm four miles east of Virginia, IL. During those years, he was actively involved in many Shiloh area activities and Cass County 4-H. More of his life's ambitions over the years were, owning and operating the Leonhard Apartments, Red Shed Antiques, HiWay House Restaurant and Wash Bucket Laundry, all located in Virginia, IL. Later years found Norman and Joan traveling all over the world in their motor home and making their winter residence at the Victoria Palms Resort in Donna, TX.
   Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 23,2012, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia where the family will meet friends from 2:00 PM Friday until the time of services. Private committal services will be held later at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Memorial gifts are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.    Rose Anna Taylor Leverton, 78, of Beardstown, died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born December 26, 1932 in Brown County, the daughter of Miles Edward and Ruby Beulah Bean Taylor. She married Charles Leverton on October 21, 1949 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1985. Surviving are three sons Russell (wife Susan) Leverton and Terry (wife Lori) Leverton both of Rushville, Charles (deceased wife Wanda) Leverton of Beardstown; two daughters Barbara (deceased husband Charles) Gustafson of Beardstown and Jessie (husband Mike) Gustafson of Rushville; 18 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers Woodrow Taylor of Clayton, IL and Melvin Taylor of Waverly, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons Samuel and David, her daughter Marilyn Bean, two brothers Everett and Delbert Taylor, and one sister Opal Daniels. Rose enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Frederick Christian Church.    Lucille Lewis, 85, of Ashland, IL died Wednesday, June 25, 2013 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL.
   She was born June 11, 1928 in Falls of Rough, KY, the daughter of John and Ella Baker McClelllan. She married Thomas J. Lewis Sr. On December 26, 1946 in Axtel, KY and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2000.
   She is survived by six children, Tom Lewis Jr. (wife, Marge) of Ashland, Larry Lewis of Ladson, SC, Wanda Heather of Chicago, Brenda Myers (husband, Gary) of Avon, Anna Ratliff (husband, Larry) of Ashland, and Mary Parks (husband, Jim) of Ashland; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; nine siblings, Marvie McClellan, Virginia Henning, Jack McClellan, Lennie Henning, Roy McClellan, Anna Johnson, Sue Duncan, and Irene Butler, all of Kentucky, and Johnny McClellan of Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kenton Bottens of rural Chandlerville.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia Moffitt; and two brothers, Thomas Leo and Freddie McClellan.
   Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland.
   Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland with burial at St. Augustine Cemetery, west of Ashland. The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 12:30 pm Saturday until the time of services.
