KLEINSCHMIDT, Herman Frederick - Submitted by Ernie Launer
H.F. Kleinschmidt, 73, Arenzveill, Dies, Rites Tuesday
Herman Frederick Kleinschmidt, 73, a resident of the Arenzville community since coming to the United States at the age of 17, died at his residence in Arenzville at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
   He was born October 27, 1891 in Eilstadt, Germany.
   He was married to Anna Lovekamp on February 8, 1922, and to this union were born the following children, all of whom survive: Norman Kleirnschmidt of Jacksonville: Wilbur Kleinschmidt of Lake Worth, Florida: Dean Kleinschmidt of Arenzville: and Shirley, wife of Edward Treadway of Staunton, Illinois.
   Mrs. Kleinschmidt died in 1947.
   On March 24, 1955, he married Mrs. Inez Schnitker Lovekamp, who survives. He is survived also by one stepson, Earl Jerome Lovekamp of Beardstown: 12 grandchtldren; one step-grand-child: and one sister, Mrs. Anna Holz of Eilstadt, Germany.
   Mr. Kleinschmidt was a retired farmer. He served with the U.S. army during World War One. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Arenzville.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Roland Welch officiating. Interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery at Arenzville.
   The body is at the Williamson Funeral Home, where the family will meet friends from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight.

   June Kleinschmidt, 79, of Arenzville, died Thursday morning, March 6, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born June 20, 1928, in Beardstown, the daughter of Fred and Lorna Korsmeyer Carls. She married Lorenz Kleinschmidt on Jan. 4, 1948, in Arenzville, and he survives.
   She is also survived by one son, Jim (wife, Jo) of Beardstown; one daughter, Karen (husband, Jim) Lovekamp of Martinez, Ga.; six grandchildren, Tara Swan of Raleigh, N.C., Josh (wife, Mary Hampton) Lovekamp of Flagstaff, Ariz., Joe (wife, Susie) Lovekamp of Macon, Ga., Jenny and Jamie Kleinschmidt (fiance', Brad Hobrock), both of Beardstown, and Julie Kleinschmidt (fiance', Matthew Meyer) of Peoria; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (deceased husband, Rev. George) Ring of Des Moines, Iowa; and one brother, Roland (wife, Jody) Carls of Arenzville. She was preceded in death by one sister, Roberta (surviving husband, Ray of Jacksonville) Staake.
   Mrs. Kleinschmidt was a homemaker. She was baptized July 1, 1928 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown and was confirmed March 29, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, where she served as an associate member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and a former Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Arenzville. The family will meet with friends from 3-6 p.. Sunday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Elevator Fund or Trinity Lutheran Church for Bethesda Foundation for Children.    George Frederick Kleinsteiber was born in Koln Saxony, Germany June 10, 1840. He married October 4, 1864, in Cass County, to Mary Maria Rahe. He died February 25, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas. His wife died there February 13, 1923. They had a son, Louis Howard Kleinsteiber, born October 18, 1876 in Beardstown, died November 12, 1934

Mrs. Ida Kloker of Browing Dies
   Mrs, Ida Kloker, 83, of Browning died yesterday afternoon at the Schmitt Memorial hospital where she had been a patient since September 8. Mrs. Kloker suffered a stroke over a year ago but had been in fairly good health the past several months, although under a doctor's care, She was not confined to bed, but was able to be about the house and enjoyed helping with the housework. Last Saturday morning she became suddenly ill and was brought to the Hospital in this city early Saturday morning. The body was removed to Cline's Funeral home to be prepared for burial.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 :30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Christian church in Browning. interment will be in the Browning cemetery. Ida Launer Kloker, daughter of T. C. Launer and Josephine Winhold Launer, was born in Cass county, March 14, 1868. During her girlhood she resided on the Launer farm between this city and Arenzville, She was married to John Kloker, and to this union one child was born. They made their home on a farm near this city until about 1900 when they moved to a farm near Browning in Schuyler county. Mrs. Kloker resided in Schuyler county 51 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away January 3, 1941. Mrs. Kloker is survived by one daughter, Ada. Geer Snyder of Browning. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Mrs. Dorothy Walton and Mrs: Helen Aten, both of Browning; Mrs, Marcella Brodman of Mantto; Robert Geer of Quincy; Sidney Geer of Rushville: and Jim Geer of Waukegan. One sister. Mrs, Bertha Hegener of Bluff Springs, and one brother, Robert Launer of Roodhouse, nine great-grandchildren. and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Kloker was a member of the central Christian church at Browning.

Funeral Services Will Be Monday
   John F. Kloker, widely known retired Schuyler county Farmer, died 8:40 o'clock last night in his home at Browning. The decedent was 78 years, four months, and 24 days of age at the time of his death. He had been ill but a few days. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at Browning, and burial will be in the Browning cemetery. The body was brought to the Cline funeral home here to be prepared for burial.

Lois Ellen Kuhn Kloker, 78, of Beardstown, died Monday evening, Feb. 12, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Beardstown, the daughter of William L. and Alice Hinderer Kuhn. She married Eward F. Kloker on June 11, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, and he survives.
   She is also survived by one daughter, Nancy E. (husband, David) Sorensen of Franklin, Wis.; one son, Robert E. (wife, Paula) of Arenzville; four grandchildren, Christopher (wife, Shannan) Kloker of Arenzville, Faith Kloker of Springfield, Nichole Sorensen (husband, Eric) Mutchie of Washington D.C., and Danielle Sorensen of Franklin, Wis.; two great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle Kuhn (surviving wife, Katherine of Beardstown); and one nephew.
   Mrs. Kloker graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1946. She was a full-time wife and mother. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. She loved to sing in church and she enjoyed gardening and baking for her family.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends two hours prior to services Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in Beardstown or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. Roberta Kloker, 1917-2008, Beardstown
   Roberta Marie Savage Broeker Kloker, 90, of Beardstown, died early Wednesday morning March 12, 2008, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
   She was born April 30, 1917, in Bluff Springs, the daughter of Oscar A. and Pearl McGovern Savage. She married Samuel Reller in 1946, and he preceded her in death. She later married Donald Kloker on May 14, 1980, and he survives.
   She is also survived by one daughter, Judith Ann (husband, Sherman) Coultas of Astoria; three stepchildren, Norman Kloker of Rushville, Kevin Kloker of Palatine and Marsha Kloker of Eagle, Colo.; four grandchildren, Brett (wife, Kelly) McCombs of Zephyr Hills, Fla., Jaime (husband, Jaun) Corral of Beardstown, Samuel McCombs of Vermont, Ill., and Angie McCombs (finance', Joe Fisher) of Astoria; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rozella Sipes of Beardstown. She was preceded in death by one son, Samuel George Broeker; and one brother, Ralph Savage.
   Mrs. Kloker graduated from Beardstown High School in 1935 where she participated in the orchestra. Upon graduation, she worked in Chicago and then for Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., for five years. She joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving in Ruston, La., and Fort Wayne, Ind., and received her Lieutenants Commission in 1944. She graduated from Lincoln Land Community College in 1974 and from the University of Illinois in Springfield in 1977. She served as Cass County Probation Officer for several years and also worked for the Illinois State Superintendent of Schools. She then worked for Central Illinois Public Service in Beardstown and retired as secretary to the senior vice president of CIPS in Springfield. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown where she was a member of the church choir for several years and also served as an organist. She was active in Beardstown and Springfield Women's Clubs and Business Professional Women Clubs. She enjoyed playing bass cello, piano and organ. She enjoyed traveling extensively both in the U.S. and abroad and playing cards.
   Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery.    Harvey W. “Bill” Knight, 89, of rural Virginia, IL died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown, IL.
   He was born July 19, 1922 in Wilmore, KY; the son of Harry Mac and Jessie Williamson Knight. He is survived by a sister, Charlotte Maddox (husband, Jack) of Texas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Knight; and a longtime companion, Shirley Fanning.
   A graduate of Virginia High School, Bill served with the US Navy during WW II in the Northern Africa Theater. He worked as a carpenter for the majority of his life. He attended Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a member of Beardstown VFW Post #1239.
   Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside committal services and military honors will be held 1:00 pm Friday, May 25, 2012 at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 pm Friday at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, west of Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Beardstown VFW Post or the Rushville VFW Post. Harry "Bud" Chalfant Knippenberg, August 10, 1927-February 6, 2013
   Harry Bud Chalfant Knippenberg, Jr., 85, of Beardstown died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. He was born August 10, 1927 in Beardstown, the son of Harry Carl and Eunice Chalfant Knippenberg. Surviving is his son Brad (wife Michelle) Knippenberg of McKinney, TX; his daughter Molly (husband Calvin) Horio of Normal; and four grandchildren Megan, Brendan, and Annie Knippenberg, and Jake Horio. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Mary Davis and Margaret Schaeffer. Bud graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1945 and then entered into service in the US Navy. He was an active citizen of Beardstown and participated in the Beardstown City Band (playing trumpet), served on the Beardstown Fall Fun Festival Committee, volunteered his time at the Beardstown River Museum and with the restoration of the Beardstown Opera House, operated sound equipment for many concerts in the park, served as an instructor for drivers license renewal, and was a member of the American Legion and also the morning coffee club at Hardees. Bud previously owned and operated Dairy King (Beardstowns first soft serve ice cream parlor) and Parkside Roller Rink, was an announcer for WRMS, and retired after 30 years of service with Fiat Allis in Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 2 until 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.    Bill A. Knous, 71, of Beardstown died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at his home. He was born February 23, 1940 in Pleasant View, the son of Ernest Alvin and Louella Cecil Bishop Knous. He married Carol Ann Dodd on May 31, 1959 in Browning and she preceded him in death on July 29, 2002. He married Paula Maurer Stinnett on April 19, 2003. Surviving is his wife Paula Knous of Beardstown; two sons Marty (wife Stacey) Knous and Robin (wife Angie) Knous both of Beardstown; one daughter Carol Sue (husband Joseph) Pennell of Jacksonville; three step-children Corey (husband Bob) Parish and Jerry (wife Jamie) Jeffers both of Litchfield and Sonny (wife Janice) Jeffers of Roodhouse; ten grandchildren Kyle and Mason Tague, Jared, Bryan, Genna, and Cadey Knous, Chadd Pennell, Tiffany Daly, and Ron and Valerie Dulaney; nine step-grandchildren Emily Jo Hasquin, Sheila Dohleman, Jessica, Kassie, Nathan, Kyle Kristen, and Lance Jeffers, and Kelsey Crabtree; five step-great grandchildren; one brother Jim (wife Marcia) Knous of Beardstown; one sister Fannie (husband Alfred) Weishaar of Beardstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carol, and his son William J. Knous. Bill retired in 2001 as an engineer from Burlington-Northern Railroad after 35 years of service. He enjoyed making walking sticks and other crafts, fishing, and rides in the car. All children held a special place in his heart as he was an avid supporter and enthusiast of Beardstown Little League Baseball and wrote children's stories. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery.    Melvin E. Knous, 78, of Beardstown, IL died Friday, January 10, 2014 in rural Bluffs, IL at his sons residence.
   He was born March 20, 1935, in rural Schuyler County, IL, the son of Marvin and Goldie Pipinger Knous. He married Betty Lyles on December 17, 1956 in Beardstown and she preceded him in death on January 23, 1997.
   He is survived by three sons, John Butch (Kathleen) Knous of Petersburg, IL, Larry Knous of Bluffs and Jamie (Ruth Ann Pratt) Knous of Beardstown; one daughter, Shirley (Paul) Fryer of Beardstown; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and one sister, Irene Jones of Huntsville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Edward and Merle LeRoy Johnny Knous; and three sisters, Delorse Paben, Verna Belle Lisenbee and Myrtle Peacock.
   Melvin worked construction, as a union laborer with Local 257 in Jacksonville, for over thirty years. Following retirement he was employed at Beardstown IGA. He enjoyed visiting with friends over a cup of coffee and watching the stock car races Jacksonville.
   A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 at Sager Funeral Home with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Jo Kobernus, 87, of Virginia, IL died Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
   She was born August 12, 1929 in Olney, IL, the daughter of Charles and Frances Stivers Totten. She married Alvin Al Kobernus on January 30, 1949 in Olney and he survives.
   She is also survived by a daughter, Becky Sudbrink (husband, Steve) of Virginia; two grandchildren, Lauren Weinbaum (husband, Brian) of El Segundo, CA, and Taylor Sudbrink (wife, Jeneisa) of Spokane, WA; two great grandchildren, Olivia Weinbaum and Warren Sudbrink; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Levern Totten, Paul Totten, Charlene Totten Graper, Captolia Totten Jennings, Mildred Totten Navoldt, and Charles Totten Jr.
   Jo was a 1947 graduate of Olney High School and worked as a teller and bookkeeper for several banks. She later served over 30 years as Church secretary for the Virginia United Methodist Church. She is a member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia. A people person, Jo was devoted to developing and maintaining friendships though out the community and truly valued the time she shared with her family and friends. Cooking was her passion and she enjoyed spending time in her kitchen preparing food for others.
   Following cremation, a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday, February 10, 2017, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 Friday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Virginia School Foundation, the Fr.    Clarice "Cindy" Koehne, 63 years, of Springfield, and formerly of rural Ashland, IL died Saturday afternoon, March 8, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born October 7, 1939 in Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Paul F. and Margaret Klever Marling. She married Glenn L. Koehne Sr. March 28, 1959, in Chandlerville, and he survives.
   She is also survived by three sons, Glenn Jr. of Ashland, Paul Allen of Springfield, and Frank of Ashland; one daughter, Lisa Remine of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; one sister, Laura Inga of Staten Island, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Terri Lee Koehne in infancy.
   Mrs. Koehne was a homemaker and loved to travel. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with burial at Chandlerville Cemetery.    Glenn L. Koehne Sr., 72 of Springfield, formerly of Ashland and Chandlerville, passed away at Heritage Manor in Springfield at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. He was born March 12, 1939 in Oakford, IL to Orville and Gertrude (Anderson) Koehne. He married Dianne L. Krug on December 16, 2006 in Shelbyville, IL.
   Mr. Koehne is survived by his wife, Dianne, of Springfield, three sons, Paul (Tina) Koehne, Glenn Koehne Jr., Frank Koehne, all of Springfield, one daughter, Lisa Remine of Cedar City, UT, two step daughters, Stephanie (Mike) Fletcher of Springfield and Megan (Phil) Padfield of Thayer, IL as well as 6 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 1 step great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth Dobson of Pleasant Plains, Marcella Mick of Springfield, Nelda Turner of Charleston, IL, and two brothers, Richard Koehne of Virginia and Gene (Sue) Koehne of Chandlerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Clarice in 2003 and daughter Teri.
   Mr. Koehne worked for Allis Chalmers as a machinist in Springfield from 1959 until 1985. He later worked as a security guard.
   Funeral services will be held at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Chandlerville Cemetery. Rev. Duane Turley will officiate.

   Albert H. Korte, 83, of Bluff Springs, died at 6:30 o'clock last night at Schmitt Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient the past three days. he had been ill at his home in Bluff Springs six weeks prior to entering the hospital here.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church in Bluff Springs where Mr. Korte was a member. The Rev. R. E. Aden, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Beardstown city cemetery.
    The body was taken to Cline's funeral to be prepared for burial and will be removed to the decedent's home in Bluff Springs tomorrow afternoon.
    Albert H. Korte was born February 9, 1867, 3 miles south of Bluff Springs, the son of Henry and Wilhemina Korte. His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.
    He was married to Mary Hessler of Bluff Springs on October 7, 1890.
    They resided on their farm southwest of Bluff Springs until Mr. Korte retired in 1919 and they moved into Bluff Springs.
    Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Lela Sweatman, Virginia; Mrs. Ida Stock, Arenzville; and Rudy Korte, Beardstown; besides five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of the Bluff Springs community.

Amelia L. Korte
   Amelia L. Korte, 69, of rural Beardstown, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday at Schmitt Memorial Hospital.
   Born on December 14, 1903, she was a daughter of Arthur G. and Lena B. Phillipi Korte.
   Mrs. Korte was preceded in death by one sister, Laura and one brother, Robert.
   She is survived by two sisters, Arneda Dotzert and Inez Fiedler, both of Beardstown and Homer Korte of Beardstown; numerous nieces and nephews.
   Funeral arrangements are tentatively set for Thursday afternoon. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Cline Funeral Home.

Mrs. Herman Korte Dies
   Mrs. Herman (Armetta Ann) Korte, 78, R. R. 1, died at 10 p.m. Sunday at her residence.
   A life-time resident of Cass County, she was born Oct. 13, 1898, a daughter of John H. and Clara Buck Meyer. She married Herman Korte on June 3, 1928. He died March 22, 1975.
   She attended Buck School, Arenzville High School and Brown's Business College in Jacksonville. She was a retired school teacher, having taught at Buck School.
   She was a member of Bluff Springs Lutheran Church.
   Survivors include one son Merle of R. R. 1 and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Northcutt Funeral Home with burial in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Arenzville. Visitation will be from 4-9 p. m. Tuesday and family will meet with friends from 7-9 p. m. Tuesday.
   Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs.

Funeral Services Will Be Held Saturday Afternoon; Was Widely Known Here
Arthur G. Korte, prominently known Cass county farmer died in Schmitt Memorial hospital here early this morning after a prolonged illness.
   Funeral services will be at the late home, three miles south of Bluff Springs at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Bruno Neumann will be in charge and burial will be made in the Jockisch cemetery.
   The decedent was born August 13. 1869, a son of Henry and Wilhelmina Korte. On October 2nd, 1894 he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Philippi, who preceded him in death, on April 30, 1913. To. this union were born 3 sons and 4 daughters, all or whom survive. They are Herman, Robert, Mrs Inez Fiedler and Mrs Laura Blum all of whom reside in this county and Armeda, Amelia and Homer at home.
   He is also survived by six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Doris, Ruth, and Merle Korte, and Glen and Eileen Fiedler. One brother Albert also survives.
   His parents, a brother, Edward and sister Amelia and his wife preceded him in death.
   The body was taken to the.Cline Funeral home to be prepared for burial.

   Funeral services for Arthur William Korte, 30 of Route 1, Beardstown, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bluff Springs, with Pastor William Brooks officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p. m. until time of services. Burial will be in Jockisch Cemetery.
    Born June 24, 1943, at Beardstown, he was a son of Homer and Julia Dotzert Korte. Mr. Korte was associated with his father in farming. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs. He served in the United States Air Force from March, 1963 to March, 1967.
   Surviving are his parents: two sisters, Carolyn Lauder of Griggsville, Miss Joan Korte at home: one brother, Norman Korte of Davenport, Iowa: one niece, Constance Lauder and one nephew, Curtis Lauder, both of Griggsville; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
   There will be no formal visitation with the family but Cline Funeral Home will be open to callers after 4 today. Those wishing to visit with the family are invited to call at the Korte residence until noon Saturday.
   The family has suggested memorials be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs.

E. A. Korte Dead
   Edward A. Korte died at his home seven miles south-east of this city at 1 o'clock this morning. He had been a sufferer with a complication of diseases for the past two years which finally terminated in lung trouble.
   He was born in this county some thirty years ago and died in the same house where he was born, he having occupied the homestead since the death of his father some years ago. He was a prominent young farmer of this section. About three years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Tritch, who is left to survive him.
   The funeral services will be held at his late home Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The burial will take place at the Krohe cemetery.

Henry Korte Cass Farmer Passes Away
   Mr. Henry Korte pioneer farmer of Cass county passed away in his late home eight miles Southeast of Beardstown on Friday May 6th at 3:30 p.m.
   The deceased was 87 years 4 months and 4 days of age at the time of his death and has resided in this country since 1856 at which time he came here from Germany and engaged in farming. He has always been held in the highest esteem by all of his family and neighbors and was always upright and honest in all of his dealings.
   He was born in Germany, January 2, 1840 and came to this country at the age of 16. Nine years later in 1856 he was united in marriage to Miss Wilhemena Krohe to which union four children were born, two having preceded him in death, Edward and Amelia. He is survived by two sons Albert of Bluff Springs and Arthur who lived on the home place. Mrs Korte passed away on June 7th, 1917.
    Funeral services will be held from the late residence at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. W. Weidhaus, Pastor of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs officiating. Interment will be made in the Krohe cemetery.

Funeral services for Mr. Henry C. Korte were held in the late home eight miles southeast of Beardstown at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. Weidhaus pastor of St. John's Lutheran church in Bluff Springs in Charge.
   Sacred music was furnished by Mrs. Ben Schnakey, Mrs. Herman Schnepper and Miss Inez Reichert who sang "O Mother Dear Jerusalem" and Mrs Schnakey sang "Face to Face" as a solo.
   Mrs. John Fiedler, Mrs. Arthur Ruppel and Miss Louise Stock cared for the many floral offerings, which were expressions of the love and sympathy of the many friends and relatives.
   The body was laid to rest in the Krohe cemetery with Herman Korte, Robert Korte, Rudie Korte, Lewis Sweatman, Arthur Stock and Henry Fiedler acting as pallbearers.
   A very large host of sympathizing friends, relatives, and neighbors were present to pay their last loving tribute.

    Herman H. Korte, 75, R. R. Beardstown died at 11:15 a. m. Saturday, March 22, 1975 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital Rushville, Illinois.
   He was born September 26, 1899 in Cass County the son of Arthur and Lena Philippi Korte, and he married Armetta Meyer June 3, 1928 in Cass County.
   He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Bluff Springs, He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, and is survived by his wife, one son Merle, of R. R. Beardstown: one brother, Homer R. R. Arenzville: two sisters Mrs. Arneda Dotzert and Mrs. Inez Fiedler both of R. R. Beardstown.
   Services for Mr. Korte will be held at Cline Funeral Home Tuesday 1:30 p. m. with Pastor William Brooks and Pastor Robert Wegehoft officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Arenzville.
   Friends may call at Cline Funeral Home Monday evening 7 to 9 p.m.

   Julia Marie Korte 76, RR #1, Arenzville, died early Friday morning, August 17, 1990, at Heritage Manor Nursing and Convalescent Home in Springfield.
   She was born May 21, 1914, in Cass County, the daughter of Henry and Katherine Leinberger Dotzert. She married Homer O.W. Korte on September 24, 1939, at the St. John's Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1983.
   She was also preceded in death by her parents: one son, Arthur W. Korte; three brothers, Frank, Julius and Paul Dotzert: one sister, Martha; and two sisters in infancy.
   She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Lauder of Quincy and Joan Wagner of Chillicothe; one son, Norman H. Korte of Bettendorf, Iowa, two grandsons, Benjamin Korte of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Curtis Lauder of Dupo: one granddaughter, Constance Lauder, of Quincy; two great grandchildren, Casey and Cody Lauder of Dupo: two sisters, Lydia Alcorn and Alma Nordsiek, both of Beardstown: three brothers, Fred C. Dotzert of Jacksonville, William Dotzert of Beardstown and Harry Dotzert of Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.
   She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs and the Friendly Circle.
   Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m, Tuesday, August 21, 1990, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs with the Rev. James Beaty officiating. The body was taken to the church one hour prior to services to lie in state. Burial was at the Jockisch Cemetery.
   Visitation was from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, August 20, at Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown.
   Memorials may be given to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs.

AT HER LATE HOME NEAR BLUFF SPRINGS WEDNESDAY MORNING APRIL 30TH.
FUNERAL SATURDAY AT THE FAMILY RESIDENCE
Husband and Seven Children Left to Mourn Her Sudden Demise, Aged About 40 Years.
   Mrs. Arthur Korte, apparently in good health and while about her work at the farm home in the usual manner, near Bluff Springs, fell suddenly prostrate at 11 o'clock, Wednesday morning and when members of the family reached her side, she was dead. She was aged about 40 years and had been a resident or this county since childhood. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the family home just south of Bluff Springs and the body will probably be interred in the Jockisch cemetery near that village.
   Mrs. Korte was the oldest daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. Herman Phillippi and was born and raised in this county. She was united in marrage with Arthur Korte, son of Henry C. Korte some years ago and to them were born seven children, all of whom together with the bereaved husband are left to mourn the sudden and sad death of the mother. The youngest of tbe children is aged about 2 years.
   Besides the husband and children, Mrs. Korte leaves three sisters, Emma, Lula and Laura Phillippi, all of whom reside at home, also two brothers, William and Pompeius Phillippi. Her death is also mourned by a large number of friends and acquaintances.

Mrs Mary Korte, 89, Bluff Springs Dies at Hospital
   Mrs. Mary Theresa Korte, 89, of near Bluff Springs, died at 9 o'clock Saturday night at the Schmitt Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Tuesday.
   Mrs. Korte was born June 11, 1866 the daughter of Henry and Katherine Serth Hessler and her entire lifetime was spent near Bluff Springs. On October 7, 1890 she was married to Albert Korte, who died in March 1950.
   Mrs. Korte was confirmed a member of the Lutheran church in early childhood.
   Surviving are a son, Rudy Korte; two daughters, Mrs. Lela Sweatman and Mrs. Ida Stock; and a twin sister, Mrs. Addie Boensel all of near Bluff Springs; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
   The body was taken to the Cline Funeral home where friends may call tonight. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the St. John's Lutheran church in Bluff Springs, with the Rev. R. E. Aden officiating.
   Burial will be made in the city cemetery here.

   Robert (Bob) Korte, 70, who resided on the South Bluff Springs road, died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday at Norris Hospital, Jacksonville.
   Born September 23, 1901, he was the son of Arthur G. and Lena Philippi Korte. He married Mary Wagner on February 21, 1928.
   He is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Flowers of Beardstown, Mrs. Edwin (Doris) Stock, Mrs Majorie Bierhaus, both of Bluff Springs, Mrs. Leo (Ruth) Wankel of Springfield; four grandchildren; two brothers, Herman Korte of Beardstown, Homer Korte of Arenzville; three sisters, Armeda Dotzert, Amelia Korte and Inez Fiedler, all of rural Beardstown.
   He was preceded in death by his Parents and one sister.
   Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Northcutt Funeral Home with Rev, Glenn Anderson and Michael Schnell officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at City Cemetery.
   Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p. m. tonight. There will be no formal visitation with the family at the funeral home.

    Mrs Rudy Korte, 69, of route 1, Beardstown, died at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, at 1:30 a. m. today.
    She was born April 23, 1900 near Bluff Springs, the daughter of George and Anna Reichert Oetgen.
    She was married to Rudy Korte on October 21, 1919, who survives. Mrs. is also survived by one son, Leroy of Chicago, and one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Rumford of Peoria, two grandchildren, James and Steven Korte of Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Elmer Reichert of Bluff Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
    Mrs. Korte was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Bluff Springs, where services will be held Sunday at 2:00, with Rev. Gerold Peterson of Jacksonville officiating.
    Mrs. Korte will be taken to the church at 1:00 to lie state. Friends may call at the Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown Saturday from 7 to 9.
    Burial will be in the City Cemetery.

Frank R. "Buster" Kost - March 19, 1927 - May 11, 2011
   Frank R. �Buster� Kost, 84, of Beardstown died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in his home. He was born March 19, 1927 in Helena, OK, the son of Irvin and Minnie Eckes Kost. He married Rosemary Altgilbers on November 3, 1956 in Beardstown and she preceded him in death April 1, 1995. Surviving is his daughter Tammy Dodds of Beardstown; three grandchildren Ryan Peacock of Havana, Sonya Knott of Milan, MO, and Joe Peacock of Virginia, IL ; one step-grandson Mike Johnson of Beardstown ; four great grandchildren Lexi and Jackie Barrett, Andy Knott, and Sophia Trinidad all of Milan, MO; and one sister Freda Canada of Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his step-son Terry Johnson; one brother Earl Kost, and one sister Dorothy B. Rahn. Buster attended Beardstown schools and then served in the US Navy during WWII. In 1952 he began his employment as a construction lineman first for Gilbert Construction and then for L.E. Myers Construction Company for many years until his retirement in 2002. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, and collecting Indian artifacts. He enjoyed sharing memories with his family and friends at �Buster�s Cabin�. His most loved treasure was spending time with his best friend�his dog �Jake�. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, May 13, 2011 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at Sager Funeral Home. Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice or Beardstown Special Olympics.
