Carl E. Jolly, 1906-2007, Beardstown
   Carl E. Jolly, 101, of Beardstown, died Saturday morning, July 14, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   He was born Oct. 28, 1905, near Waverly, the son of Claude J. and Harriet Lythell Jolly. He married Nellie c. McComas on Feb. 21, 1926, in Beardstown, and she preceded him in death Aug. 19, 2003.
   He is survived by one son Ret. Col. Donald L. (wife, Edith) of Alma, Ark.; one daughter, Carnell (husband, Willard Korsmeyer of Beardstown; six grandchildren, Lynn (husband, Michael) Hollahan, Janet (husband, Paul Vorwerk) Korsmeyer, Karen (husband, Joe) Randolla, Sandra (husband, Ernest) Kalnasy, Laura (husband, Rev. Randy) Rowlan and Cynthia (husband, David) Yungclas; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Dr. Stanley (surviving wife, Susan) Korsmeyer; one brother, Harold; and one sister, Bernice Ackerman.
   When he was a young boy, Mr. Jolly's family moved to Beardstown and they owned and operated Jolly Grocery on Grand Avenue and then on Clay Street. As a teenager, he began working for Illico Oil Company in Beardstown and retired as an agent in 1967. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown where he formerly served on the church council. He also previously served as an alderman and as president and secretary for the Beardstown Sanitation District Board. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, especially driving, with his wife.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the Dr. Stan Korsmeyer Science Educational Fund or First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].

Nellie C. Jolly, 1906-2003, Beardstown
   Nellie C. Jolly, 96, of Beardstown, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2003, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born Aug. 29, 1906, in Beardstown, the daughter of George Charles and Elizabeth Schweer McComas. She married Carl E. Jolly on Feb. 21, 1926, in Beardstown, and he survives in Beardstown.
   She is also survived by one daughter, Carnell (husband, Willard) Korsmeyer of Beardstown; one son, Ret. Col. Donald L. (wife, Edith) of Alma, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Dr. Stanley (wife, Susan) Korsmeyer, Lynn (husband, Michael) Hollahan, Janet Korsmeyer, Karen (husband, Joe) Randolla, Sandra (husband, Ernest) Kalnasy, Laura (husband, the Rev. Randy) Rowlan and Cynthia (husband, David) Yungclas; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Herbert, Charles, Edwin, Harry, Virgil and Henry; and two sisters, Mable and Anna.
   Mrs. Jolly attended school in Beardstown and was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown where many years ago she was a member of the Ladies' Aid. She worked prior to her marriage and during World War II for Illinois Bell Telephone. An avid reader and member of several bridge clubs, she was a homemaker and truly enjoyed caring for her family.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial in Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Cass County Visiting Nurses, First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected].
