William Robert 'Tobe' Frank, 1923-2006, Beardstown
   William Robert "Tobe" Frank, 83, of Beardstown, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 2006, at his residence.
   He was born July 29, 1923, in Virginia, the son of John and Alta Mae Spicer Frank. He married Jeannie Harris on Nov. 4, 1948, and she preceded him in death July 4, 1999.
   He is survived by one son, Dave (wife, Carolyn) of Arenzville; one daughter, Cindy (husband, Jim) Frye of Quincy; four grandchildren, Dale (wife, Jami) Frank of Beardstown, Dan (wife, Emily) Frank of Mount Sterling, Gwen (husband, Kenny) Coffey of St. Joseph and Brent (wife, Amanda) Frye of Philo; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie, John, Jerry, Albert "Hunk" and Louis; and four sisters, Kate Conner, Dorothy Shelton, Mary Conner and Erma Deacon.
   Mr. Frank served in the U.S. Army in India during World War II. He was previously employed with International Harvester in Canton and Delta Tank in Beardstown and he formerly owned and operated the "Sazarac" in Beardstown.
   Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Browning Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].

   Gertrude Thelma Frashier, 95, of Beardstown died Monday, December 18, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   Graveside funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 21, at Beardstown City Cemetery with Rev. Albert Smith of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Virginia officiating.
Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

   Flora Frederick (nee Greenwood) age 88 years, beloved wife of August Frederick, dear mother of August Frederick Jr. and Charles Workman of Springfield, Ill. Funeral Sunday, 1:30 p.m., from late residence, Itasca, Ill. Services at First Presbyterian church, Itasca. Interment Mount Emblem cemetery.

   Funeral services for Mr. Vincent I. Freel, a World War veteran of the Milwaukee Government hospital who died on Feb. 5th at 11 p,m. at Chatham, Ill while enroute to his brother's home in Virginia, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon from the Christian church in Virginia with the Rev. J.H. Parker officiating.
   The songs which were sung during the services were "Nearer My God to Thee," "Abide With Me" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and the sermon was taken from the 91st Psalm.
   There were many beautiful flowers bearing a message of sympathy to the bereaved family. The body was brought to the city where interment was made beside his mother in the family lot in the City Cemetery with members of the American Legion in charge of the burial service. The pallbearers were members of the Legion.
   The deceased was the son of John and Amanda Freel, was born in Chandlerville, Ill., on August 16, 1887 and was 45 years, 5 months and 20 days of age.
   He received his education in Beardstown where he grew to manhood. His father preceded him on March 14, 1893 and his mother on Dec. 11, 1910. He is survived by one brother, John Freel of Virginia, and two sisters Mrs. Fred Winger and Mrs. George C. Owens both of Rock Island and 5 nieces and 5 nephews.
   The decendent was enroute from the Milwaukee government hospital to the home of the brother John Freel in Virginia when he was taken critically ill a Chatham dying suddenly of complication of diseases with which he had suffered for many years.

   Lee Freitag, 83, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, January 10, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
   He was born January 23, 1932 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Sam and Mabel Venzel Freitag. He married Judith Marie “Judy” Damotte on June 25, 1960 in Virginia and she survives.
   He is also survived by four children, Kim Freitag (wife, Jane) of Canton, Marci Elliott (husband, Steve) of Springfield, Mark Freitag (wife, Sandra) of Metamora, and Stephen Freitag (wife, Maria) of Plainfield; 15 grandchildren, Bethany Potthoff (husband, Mike) of Springfield, Brynn Freitag of Los Angeles, CA, Breanna Herink (husband, Joe) of Davenport, IA, Dan Johnson of Canton, Jordan Long of Peoria, Anita Garver (husband, Pat), JaNell Phillips, and Catrina Long, all of Washington, Natalie and John Schroll of Springfield, Riley and Kailey Elliott of Springfield, Logan and Addison Freitag of Metamora, and Spencer Freitag of Plainfield; a great grandchild, Graham Freitag of Springfield; a sister, Wanda Harrison of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David L. Freitag; a grandchild, Peggy Strongman; and eight siblings, Ed Freitag, Paul Freitag, Harry Freitag (surviving wife, Gladys of Edwardsville), James Freitag, and all in infancy Sam Freitag, Herman Freitag, Evelyn Freitag, and Velma Joy Freitag.
   A 1950 graduate of Virginia High School, Lee was first employed by Jim Drogan Construction in Virginia. He later served 36 years as manager of the Crawford Lumber Yard in Virginia where he became well-known for his problem solving ability in the construction field. In retirement, Lee worked with David Cox Construction and served as a self-employed general contractor for 10 years.
   He was a devoted member of St. Luke Parish where he served two terms on the church council and as a long time usher. Lee provided his construction expertise to his church during the construction of their parish hall and more recently, the church office complex addition. In recognition of his dedicated service, Lee was awarded the Marion Award in 2014 by Bishop Thomas Paprocki of the Springfield Diocese.
   Lee formerly served on the Virginia Park System Board, as a little league coach, and other volunteer duties in support of his children. A talented woodworker, he created wooden rocking horses for his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was time spent with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.
   A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 14, 2016, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 3:45 pm Wednesday. Jackie D. "Jack" French 1930-2000
   Jackie D. "Jack" French, 70, of Virginia, died Friday morning, July 21, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born March 19, 1930, in Peoria, the son of David D. and Marie L. Shaurette French. He married Julia Cox August 23, 1953, in Virginia, and she survives.
   He is also survived by a son, Davey (wife, Becky) of Virginia; a daughter, Julie Ackerman of Virginia; four grandchildren; two brothers, Roy (wife, Barbara) of Virginia and Bill (wife, Patricia) of Clayton; two sisters, Doris McKenzie (husband, Earl) and Delores Boice (husband, Donald) both of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. French was a 1948 graduate of Virginia High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, stationed in Panama with the Amphibious Support Regiment of the 370th Combat Engineers. He was a building contractor in the Virginia area for longer than 50 years. He was a longtime dealer and builder for Homeway Homes, which later became Walnut Custom Homes. He served as photographer for the Cass County Coroner and Sheriff's Department for 21 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia and a former member of the Sangamon Valley Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia.
   An active outdoorsman, Mr. French enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife and family. He served as a Hunter Safety Instructor for 24 years. He also enjoyed writing about the outdoors and had several articles published in national publications.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

   Viola Louise Parks French, 95, of Beardstown, died Wednesday morning Oct. 4, 2006, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born Dec. 13, 1910, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Charles Allen and Nellie Henderson Parks. She married Merrill French on November 19, 1927, in Crown Point, IN and he preceded her in death January of 1987.
   She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd, Charles, John, and Glen and two sisters, Mable Taylor and Byrel Bennett.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. French attended Beardstown Schools and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Beardstown. She worked as a farmer's wife, housekeeper, babysitter, and a worker in a candy factory, coat factory, greenhouse, laundry service where she pressed white shirts, and a school cafeteria in Winnamac, IN. She worked as a housekeeping supervisor in a facility for the mentally impaired then in her later years picked blueberries near Holland, Michigan for 12 years. Viola was a member of the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice and was particularly proud to serve as a hospice caregiver; she was one of the first volunteers in Cass County.
   Funeral services for Viola French were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Beardstown with Mike Courson officiating. A poem was read by Lynne O'Hara.
   Pianist Trish Sager accompanied vocalist Wyatt Sager as he hang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Just As I Am," and "Beyond the Sunset."
   Pallbearers were Terry Bell, Tim Bell, Tom Bell, Mark O'Hara, Kenny O'Hara, Jr., Mike Cooper, Butch Cooper, Joe Taylor, Doug Taylor, and Glen Parks.
Burial was in the Beardstown City Cemetery.
   Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

Emilie Ann (Lakamp) Fricke, 86, of Jacksonville and formerly of Arenzville, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
   She was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Edwin and Rebecca Gillham Lakamp. She married Robert Fricke on April 2, 1953, in Chapin, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2006.
   She is survived by two daughters, Sue (Tom) Bertelsen of Little York and Jana (Dennis) Hoenig of Canton; two sons, Neal (Teresa) Fricke of Moline and Donn (Denise) Fricke of Council Bluffs, IA; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carol (Bill) Smith of Jacksonville, and Mary Rae (Max) Brockhouse of Chapin.
   Mrs. Fricke went to school in Chapin and graduated from Chapin High School. She attended Illinois College and then transferred and graduated from Western Illinois University. She taught school at a number of area schools including Franklin, Meredosia-Chambersburg and Triopia. She later worked for the Cass County 0-3 Program. She then worked as a Case Manager for Cass, Brown, Pike and Schuyler Counties in the placement of the developmentally disabled. Emilie also worked on the family farm, handling all the books, and raising her four children. Her many interests included gardening, reading, and antique collecting. She was an avid follower of Conservative politics.
   A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017, at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. Glenn Fricke 1927-2009
   Glenn E. Fricke, 82, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born January 20, 1927 in Petersburg to William and Eda Roegge Fricke. He married Carol Hoffman on January 23, 1955 in Beardstown.
   He is survived by his wife, Carol of Petersburg; two sons, Stephen (Deborah) Fricke, and Larry (Bonnie) Fricke, all of Petersburg; a brother, William J. (Marilyn) Fricke of Petersburg; a sister, Bernice Schneider of Dewark, OH; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
   One son, Douglas Fricke; four brothers, Earl, Gilbert, Paul, and John Fricke; and a sister, Ruth Adam, preceded him in death.
   Mr. Fricke was a life long farmer. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg, where he was a member of the church board. He was also a member of Menard County Farm Bureau. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War as a medic.

   Henry Fricke, respected resident of the Meredosia bottoms and until recently Postmaster at Lyddia Postoffice, died Thursday, age ninety two. He has five living children, William of Meredosia bottoms, Herman of MO., Mrs. John Roegge of Arenzville, Mrs. William Roegge of Meredosia Lake, and Mrs. Farke of MO. The funeral will be at the homestead Sunday at 1 p.m.

   Renata Louise Fricke, 97, of Arenzville, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
   She was born March 15, 1911, in Arenzville, the daughter of George H. and Louise Heine Lovekamp. She married Homer Fricke on April 7, 1931, in Arenzville, and he preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1992. She is survived by one son, Richard (wife, Mary Ann) Fricke of Ottawa; one daughter, Althea (husband, David) Carls of Arenzville; eight grandchildren, Rodney Fricke (friend, Julie Friedman) of Sacramento, Calif., Beth Krug (friend, Jeff King) of Cartersville, Ga., Sherry Medellin of Laredo, Texas, Rhonda (husband, Brad) Johnson of Ottawa, Leesa (husband, Dave) Tobiasz of Lake Zurich, Steve (wife, Susan) Carls of Beardstown, Drew (wife, Jennifer) Carls and Marc (wife, Tina) Carls, both of Arenzville; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Otto, Theodore, Walter and Werner Lovekamp; and six sisters, Bertha and Anna Kleinschmidt, Alma Lovekamp, Lorna Roegge, Marie Schubert and Louise Weide.
   Mrs. Fricke was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville and was active in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and later in life, the company of her friend and caregiver, Charlotte Hull.

   Ruth Charlotte Fricke, 90, a longtime Arenzville resident, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Barton Stone Home in Jacksonville.
    She was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Morgan County near Meredosia, the daughter of John F. and Elizabeth Russwinkle Heitbrink. She married Orval H. Fricke on June 8, 1952, in Meredosia and he preceded her in death Apr. 26, 2006.
   She is survived by two sons, Roger (wife, Sandra) of Chapin and Ronald (wife, Penny) of Waverly; and five grandchildren; Jason (wife, Dana) Fricke of Jacksonville, Jenna (husband, Jamie) Curry of Mt. Zion, Jacob Fricke of Chapin, and Alexandria Fricke and Tyson Fricke, both of Waverly. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Owen Heitbrink (surviving wife, Lorene of Quincy), Alvin Heitbrink, Orville Heitbrink (surviving wife, Aileen of Jacksonville) and Fred Heitbrink; and three sisters, Corrine, in infancy, Esther Berghaus and Della Jording.
   Mrs. Fricke was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Trinity Ladies Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery east of Meredosia.    Henry C. Funk, a former prominent Cass county farmer, died at nine o'clock Sunday morning at Our Savior's hospital in Jacksonville, at the age of 71 years.
   The decedent is survived by his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Long Funk, three sons, Charles and Victor, at home and Harry of Chicago; one daughter Mrs. Loy Cox, Chicago, 1 sister Mrs. Mary Crawford of Arenzville and a host of friends.
   The remains were removed to the J.H. Massie funeral home and later taken to the residence seven miles southwest of here.
   Funeral services were held at the residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Wayne Tolson officiating. Interment was made in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
