Dorothy A. Fair January 3, 1918 - April 28, 2011
   Dorothy Alice Fair, 93, of Hendersonville, NC and formerly of Virginia, IL passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Hendersonville, NC.
   She was born January 3, 1918 in Virginia, IL; the daughter of James Edward and Florence Mae Morris Graves. She married Edmund P. Fair and he preceded her in death in 2004.
   She is survived by two sons, John E. Fair (partner, Annie Hames) of Hendersonville, NC and James R. Fair (wife, Celeste Tell) of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Daniel and Samuel Fair of Seattle, WA and Tiffanie Ellman of Concord, CA; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Morris Graves, and two sisters, Elizabeth McClintick and Louise Widmeyer.
   A 1935 graduate of Virginia High School, Mrs. Fair was raised in Virginia and moved to Tulsa, OK in 1957. She relocated to Hendersonville, NC in 2003. Dorothy resided at Sunnybrook for the past six years where she enjoyed playing Bingo, going out to lunch in the Sunnybrook van, and watching her beloved Chicago Cubs during baseball season. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
   Graveside funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. There will be no visitation. Eberly C. 'Sneb' Fair, 1912-2006, Virginia
   Eberly C. "Sneb" Fair, 94, of Virginia, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.
   He was born March 29, 1912, in Virginia, the son of Clyde and Inez Farrely Fair. He married Nancy Jo Caldwell on Nov. 25, 1937, in Virginia, and she preceded him in death following 64 years of marriage on Dec. 25, 2001.
   He is survived by three sons, Edward (wife, Jan) of Lindenhurst, Thomas (wife, Pat) of Stamford, Conn., and Myron "Bud" (wife, Bonnie) of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; one daughter, Alice (husband, Charles) Watson of Franklin; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Julie Jo, Mandy, Jim, Susan, Mike, Michele, Daniel and Joseph; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Lynn; three brothers, Remel "Shorty," Edmond "E.P." and Robert; and two sisters, Audrey Bins an Rosemary Campbell.
   A 1930 graduate of Virginia High School, Mr. Fair went into the grocery business with Glenn Birnbaum, actually competing with his father, Clyde. He later joined his father in the Fair & Buck grocery business on the north side of the Virginia square. In February 1942, he began a 30-year career as a trooper with the Illinois State Police. He estimated that he drove well over million miles on the highway and side roads of Illinois.
   In 1943, he was called to service with the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in the China-Burma India Theater helping construct the Burma Road. He was discharged in November 1945 and resumed his duties with the Illinois State Police until his retirement in 1972. In retirement, he worked for 10 years at the Virginia Country Club Golf Pro Shop.
   The loves of his life included his wife and his family, his valued friendships with fellow state troopers across the United States, and his long association with the Virginia American Legion Post. He enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening, and spending time with the coffee gang at the Depot restaurant. An avid fan of the Virginia Redbirds, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago Beards, he enjoyed jousting with Cub fans whenever possible. He was a long-time member of the Virginia Methodist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Virginia United Methodist Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia. At his request in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Virginia Methodist Church.    Mrs. Sarah Epler died Sunday at Citronelle, Alabama, while spending the winter there. She was brought to her home in Jacksonville and the funeral services occurred there Wednesday. the deceased was born in Indiana and came to this county with her parents when quite young. She was married in 1850 to D.W.Fairbanks. She was well known in this city. She is survived by three children and four brothers, Judge Cyrus Epler, of Jacksonville, John M. Epler of Holly,Col., Wm. Epler of Lake Charles, La., and Albert G. Epler of Rocky Ford, Col., and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Prince, of Delavan. The latter two brothers were until a few years ago residents of this city.

Brenda Lee Fanning, April 9, 1953-July 7, 2015
    Brenda Lee Fanning, 62, of Jacksonville, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born April 9, 1953, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Harold “Bud” and Doris Inabel Lindsey Fanning.
   Brenda is survived by one brother, Ronald “Butch” Fanning of Jacksonville, three half-brothers, Brandon (wife, Angie) Bergschneider of Waverly, Tony (wife, Diana) Fanning and Jon (wife, Laura) Fanning, both of Jacksonville; her step-father, John “Jack” Bergschneider of Waverly, her step-mother, Velma Fanning of Jacksonville; two aunts, Christine Bowman and Faye Brown, and one uncle, Kenneth Lindsey, all of Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews, and her dearest friends Mary Royer and Sue Barber, both of Jacksonville.
   She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Inabel Bergschneider, her father, Harold “Bud” Fanning, and aunts and uncles, Everett Lindsey (surviving wife Marjorie of Jacksonville), Earl Lindsey (surviving wife, Helen of Jacksonville), Wayne Lindsey, George Fanning (surviving wife, Margaret of Virginia), Martin Fanning, Albert Fanning, Robert Fanning, Floyd Fanning, Glen Fanning, William Fanning (surviving wife, Frances of Jacksonville), Eugene Fanning, Laberta Scholes, and Frances Pettit.
   Brenda was a 1971 graduate of Jacksonville High School and had worked as a secretary at the Morgan County Courthouse and Beneficial Finance in Springfield. She attended First Christian Church in Jacksonville. Brenda loved spending time with her family and friends and decorating her home.
   A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Diamond Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans. George E. Fanning, 1921-2008, Virginia
   George E. Fanning, 86, of Virginia, died Tuesday morning, March 11, 2008, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   He was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Cass County, the son of Martin and Mimah J. Briggs Fanning. He married Margaret Riley on May 20, 1945 in Cass County, and she survives.
   He is also survived by two daughters, Barbara Perkins and Charlotte Fanning, both of Virginia; two grandchildren, Tracy (husband, Neal) Taylor and Lori Cook, both of Virginia; two great-grandsons; one sister, Luberta Scholes of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Pettit; and eight brothers, Robert, Floyd, Albert, Harold, Eugene, William, Glen, and Martin Jr.
   Mr. Fanning served with the U.S. Army during World War II and farmed in Cass County for many years. After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop where he repaired and refinished antiques and created new wooden projects. Many Virginia area residents relied upon his expertise for their home projects. He was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
   Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Margaret E. Fanning, 92, of Virginia, IL died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.
   She was born February 12, 1925 in Cass County, the daughter of Walter and Grace Irvin Riley. She married George E. Fanning on May 20, 1945 in Cass County and they remained inseparable partners until his death on March 11, 2008.
   She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Perkins and Charlotte Fanning, both of Virginia; two grandchildren, Tracy Taylor (husband, Neal) and Lori Cook Krohe (husband, Josh), all of Virginia; two beloved great grandsons, Andrew Taylor and Dylan Cook, both of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Riley, Harold Riley and William Riley, and two sisters, Helen Kruse and Freda Dalton.
   A graduate of Virginia High School, Marge was a farm wife and later retired from Capitol Records in Jacksonville. In her retirement, she assisted her husband with projects in his woodworking shop.
   She was a faithful and devoted member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia where she served over the years as a Sunday School teacher, Elder, youth group leader, and as a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Women.
   Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm, Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Glenn E. Farber, 84, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Mt. Sterling, IL.
   He was born December 12, 1927 in Olathe, KS; the son of Henry C. and Lura Hogg Farber. He married Ruth L. Young on September 11, 1947 in Pocahontas, AR and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2012.
   He is survived by four daughters, Nickie Fields (husband, Robert) of Davenport, IA, Denise Parlier (husband, Milt) of Virginia, Lyn Howard (husband, Dan) of Jacksonville, and Tracy Smith (husband, Brad) of Elizabethtown, KY; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Strowmatt of White Hall, Lois Walker (husband, Harold) of White Hall, and Lillian Mott of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Carl Farber (wife, Janie) of White Hall; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lura Reno (surviving husband, Rob of Roodhouse).
   Mr. Farber was a graduate of White Hall High School and DeVry Institute in Chicago. He served with the US Army Air Corps during WW II and the Japanese Occupation. A skilled electrician, Glenn worked as a lineman for municipal utilities and rural electric in the Geneseo area. He later worked for John Deere in Moline, Oscar Meyer in Beardstown, and Eli Bridge Company in Jacksonville. More recently, he worked in insurance sales in the Jacksonville area and business development for Elm City Center.
   He was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed experimenting with the cross pollination of many vegetables. He maintained large gardens and loved to share his harvest with friends and neighbors.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Bishop Paul Drake officiating. The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am Friday until the time of services. Committal services will be held 1:30 pm Friday at White Hall Cemetery in White Hall.    Ruth L. Farber, 82, of Virginia, IL died Friday, March 9, 2012 at her residence.
   She was born August 14, 1929 in Roodhouse, IL; the daughter of Thomas and Ruby Lister Young. She married Glenn E. Farber on September 11, 1947 in Pocahontas, AR and he survives.
   She is also survived by four daughters, Nickie Fields (husband, Robert) of Davenport, IA, Denise Parlier (husband, Milt) of Virginia, Lyn Howard (husband, Dan) of Jacksonville, and Tracy Smith (husband, Brad) of Elizabethtown, KY; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Janet Raffety of Collinsville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Thomas Young.
   Mrs. Farber was a CNA at Passavant Hospital for 22 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and engaging in political discussions around the kitchen table. A consummate homemaker and cook, she was focused on providing three balanced meals daily, always incorporating her home canned vegetables and home made condiments.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia.    Lucille "Lucie" Farmer, 1948-2006, Jacksonville
Lucille "Lucie" Farmer, 58, of Jacksonville, died early Friday morning, Dec. 29, 2006, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   She was born Dec. 17, 1948 in Winchester, the daughter of John Yearly and Gladys Mae Templin Winder. She married Danny Farmer on July 17, 1982, in Roodhouse, and he survives.
   She is also survived by two sons, Robin (wife, Lori) Winder of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Ryan (wife, Carrie) Decker of Jacksonville; one daughter, Rebecca Winder of Jacksonville; two step-daughters, Brandye Farmer (husband, Ron) Hendrickson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Tiffany Farmer of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Laci Winder, Evan Jackson, Arzellus Wilson, Jayden Ware, Alexalyn Farmer, Nolan Decker, Huston Spradlin and Anderson Decker, all of Jacksonville; and eight sisters, Betty (husband, Willard) Sackett of Yates City, Evelyn (husband, Ted) Evans of Lebanon, Ore., Barb Alred, Patricia Plahn and Grace Cotter (companion, B.J. Hall), all of Roodhouse, Wanita (husband, Bobby) Patterson of Virden, Edith (husband, Terry) Smith of Jacksonville and Roberta (husband, Richard) Ferguson of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Mia Michelle Ware; and one brother, Robert Earl Winder.
   Mrs. Farmer was a lifelong beautician in the Roodhouse and Jacksonville areas. She loved cooking and taking care of her swimming pool. Mrs. Farmer was a very devoted grandmother.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cody & Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. FARMER, Walter Eugene "Gene"
Walter Eugene "Gene" Farmer, 75, of Arenzville, IL received his last call to the bullpen from his heavenly father on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL.
   Gene was born February 3, 1937 to Harold Edward and Helen Louise Long Farmer. He married Linda Sue Wade on August 22, 1962 at Florence United Methodist Church in Florence, IL and she survives.
   Gene is also survived by his son, Lynn (wife Rachel) Farmer of Mattoon; his daughter Vicki (husband, Jim) Lynn of Arenzville; four grandchildren, Amanda Marie and Megan Louise Lynn of Arenzville and Rhett Austin and Kelsey Addison Farmer of Mattoon; a brother, Gerald Farmer of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold "Red"¯ Farmer (surviving wife, Donna of Jacksonville); two sisters, Evelyn Allen (surviving husband, Harold of Ashland) and Virginia Watkins (surviving husband, Ray of Petersburg); and a sister-in-law, Betty Farmer.
   Gene graduated from Ashland High School in 1954. He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville where he earned his teaching degree in 1958 and participated in a variety of collegiate sports. With his participation in football, baseball and basketball, he was named team captain for all three teams during his senior year at IC. In 1986, he was inducted into the Illinois College Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements in athletics at the college.
   Gene began his teaching career at Chandlerville High School from 1958-1960 before he joined the US Army in 1960, where he played baseball until his discharge in 1962. It was then that Gene was hired by Triopia Schools and taught there until his retirement. During his tenure, Gene was assistant football coach under Don Kemp where they coached to a Class 1A State Football Championship and two runners-up titles. Upon retirement from Triopia, Gene began coaching women's softball at Illinois College until his retirement from that position in 2001. Gene then coached the Wildcats of Winchester's football team for 4 years. It was then that Gene once again landed at Triopia where he coached the Lady Trojans Softball team from 2004 to this present school year. Under Gene's leadership, the team won their first two Regional Softball Titles.
   In total, Gene spent over 53 years coaching in the surrounding communities. Gene was inducted into not only the Illinois College Hall of Fame, but also the Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame, where he was honored in the presence of his entire family in 1997. Gene spent much of his free time in the summer coaching, umpiring or tending to the Arenzville Community ball diamond. His love for the game and the kids that participated was evident in all he did.
   Gene was an active member of the Arenzvillle United Methodist Church and the Arenzville American Legion Post 604, where he served as adjutant. Gene also served on the Arenzville Library and Tutoring Center Board. He was also employed as an AFLAC associate for 10 years. He will be greatly missed by all of the lives that he touched and will always remain our favorite and biggest supporter.
   Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial and military honors at Arenzville North Cemetery in Arenzville.    Elizabeth Louise Ferran of Beardstown, left this earthly life to begin her life with God on February 12, 2011 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown. She was 101 years old. She was born on March 17, 1909 near Kingston, Ohio, the daughter of James L. and Mary Estella "Mayme" McMahon Shaner. She married Lawrence L. "Bud" Ferran on July 31, 1931 in Calhoun, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1973. She is survived by her son Donald (Mary) of North Little Rock, AR, a daughter Marilyn (Thomas) Zmudzinski of Harrietta, MI, daughter-in-law Shirley Salo of Brethern, MI, eight grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence (Bud), and her eldest son Lawrence Eugene (Gene) Ferran. She had been a resident of Beardstown for 65 years where she and her husband were involved in small businesses. She was a first grade Sunday School teacher for nearly 30 years at the First Methodist Church in Beardstown where she was a member. Elizabeth was noted for her baking abilities, making many people happy with her angel food cakes and sugar cookies. She was able to keep her home for many years until her move to Heritage Manor South. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday February 15, 2011 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Lee V. Farrar 1924 - 2004 BEARDSTOWN
   Lee V. Farrar, 79, of Beardstown, died Friday evening, April 2, 2004, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Beardstown, the son of Herman D. and Blanche L. Davis Farrar. He married Phyllis Ann Nordsiek on Oct 15, 1950, at St Peter's Lutheran Church near Arenzville, and she preceded him in death Nov. 15,1989.
   He is survived by one daughter, Diane (husband, Jon) Murray of Mount Morris; two grandchildren Hanni Murray and Will Murray; an "Exchange Student Granddaughter" Trang Nguyen of Hanoi, Vietnam; one cousin; and several special friends. He was preceded in death by two sons, Russel Allen and Mark Jay; and one brother, Robert Farrar.
   Mr. Farrar graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and also a member of the Beardstown B.P.O. Elks Club and Cass Lodge 23 A.F. & A.M. He was formerly employed with Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS) in Beardstown, then as a journeyman-lineman for Local Union and later as custodian for the Beardstown Community Unit School, where he retired in the fall of 1989. As a lover of the outdoors, he was owner and member of the Lily Lake Duck Club in Cass County, where he loved to hunt and fish.
   Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial to be held at a later date at the family lot at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery near Arenzville. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown or Elks Crippled Children. Mark J. Farrar 1958 - 2003 BEARDSTOWN
   Mark J. Farrar, 44, of Braidwood, and formerly of Beardstown, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in Braidwood.
   He was born June 20,1958, in Beardstown, the son of Lee V. and Phyllis Ann Nordsiek Farrar.
   He is survived by his father of Beardstown; one stepson, Adam Lawshe, of Braidwood; one sister, Diane (husband, Jon) Murray, of Mount Morris; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1989; and one brother, Russel Allen Farrar, in November 2002.
   Mr. Farrar graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1976. He was currently employed for 25 years with Mobil Oil in Joliet. As an avid sportsman, Mr. Farrar greatly enjoyed duck hunting and fishing especially with his father at Lily Lake Duck Club in Cass County.
   Memorial services for the cremated remains will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at the church Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown.    BEARDSTOWN - Phyllis Farrar, 60, of 1207 Washington St., Beardstown died Wednesday evening, Nov. 15, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
   She was born June 28, 1929, in Beardstown, daughter of Russel and Alma Dufelmeier Nordsiek. She married Lee Farrar on Oct. 15, 1950, in Arenzville. He survives.
   Also surviving are her husband; two sons, Allen Farrar of Beardstown and Mark Farrar of Manhattan; a daughter, Diane Murray of Mt. Morris; two grandchildren, Hanni Murray and Will Murray, both of Mt. Morris; two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Margaret) Fiedler and Mrs. John (Jean) Jokisch, both of Beardstown; her mother, Alma Nordsiek of Beardstown; an aunt, Marie Pilger of Beardstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
   She was preceded in death by her father.
   Mrs. Farrar was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown, where she served as financial secretary for many years. She also was employed in the offices of the Beardstown Hospital, the Triopia School District and Beardstown Hardwood, and most recently worked as an assistant librarian at the Beardstown Public Library. Mrs. Farrar was a past president of the Beardstown Emblem Club, and was a member of the Homemakers Extension Association and the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
   Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown with burial in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Arenzville. Informal visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown, or friends may call at her residence. Memorials may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown or St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Arenzville.

Russell Allen Farrar 1952 - 2002 SPRINGFIELD
   Russell Allen Farrar, 50, of Springfield and formerly of Beardstown, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born Nov. 10, 1952, in Beardstown, the son of Lee V. and Phyllis Ann Nordsiek Farrar.
   He is survived by his father of Beardstown; one sister, Diane (husband, Jon) Murray of Mount Morris; one brother, Mark of Braidwood; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother.
   Mr. Farrar graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1970 and he attended Lincoln Land Community College and Sangamon State University both in Springfield. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 until 1972 serving in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Sea. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and Beardstown Elks 1007. He was formerly employed at Oscar Mayer in Beardstown for 18 years and for the past seven years he has been employed with the State of Illinois in the Department of Human Services and most recently the Medicare division.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery near Arenzville. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with the family meeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials have been suggested to Elks Crippled Children or the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown.

FARRELL, Abigail - Journal-Courier, Jacksonville, Illinois, May 20, 1902
   The old cemetery at Beardstown, not used for a number of years, is to be abandoned. This necessitates the removal of many there interred. The mother of the late Felix G. Farrell, was buried there and Mr. & Mrs. E.E. Crabtree were in Beardstown recently to transfer the body to Diamond Grove in Jacksonville. The stone, though stained and discolored, reads "Abigail consort of John Farrell, died Jun. 17, 1835, age 24yrs. 9mo. 17dys."
