DYSON, Thomas - newspaper unknown, 1913
Thomas Dyson was born near Manchester, England June 12, 1834, and died at Chandlerville, Cass County January 21, 1913. He was the third of a family of four sons, who came to this country in 1841 and settled in Rushville. His father died that same year and the surviving members of the family are Edwin Dyson and Mrs. N.S. Montgomery of this city (Rushville). In the early fifties Mr. Dyson removed to Chandlerville, which place was ever afterwards his home. Here he was married on April 20, 1868 to Miss Johanna Wing, who with a family of two sons and five daughters, survive him, and all were at the home when he passed away. From an extended article in the Chandlerville Times of January 24 we take the following: the subject of this sketch was born in England, he became an ardent admirer of the free institutions of this country. In politics he was ever a Democrat; never having scratched the straight ticket. He was also a worthy citizen of Chandlerville, and served as postmaster under Mr. Cleveland's administration from 1885-1889. He was also a Justice of the Peace from 1836-1899. He filled the office of Police Magistrate for many years, even up to the time of his death. In addition to these offices he was Deputy Assessor for more than thirty five years. Mr. Dyson's private life was ever and always above reproach. Henot only believed in the necessity of the Christian church but was always a supporter and contributor to the same as along as he lived. As a husband and father he was loving and true. No place in our village was dear to him as his home. To sum up his life, Mr. Dyson was a good man, a loyal citizen, and true husband and a loving and devoted father. The funeral services were held at the Congregational Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. William B.Shaw, assisted by Dr. B.O. Aylesworth, after which the remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery, [Chandlerville Cemetery]. (Other survivors of Thomas Dyson were brothers, Joseph and William Dyson.).
