Helene A. Dahman dies at Passavant; services Sunday
   Mrs. Helene A. Dahman, 78. of 254 Woodland, died late Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Passavant Hospital.
   She was born near Arenzville, Nov. 7, 1905, a daughter of Frederick and Mina Ring Schnitker.
   She was married to Homer H. Dahman at Decatur, March 9, 1929, and he died April 15, 1962.
    She is survived by a son, Attorney Marc Dahman of Jacksonville, a daughter, Mrs. Aaron (Janet) Thomas of Jackson, Wyo., five grandchildren, Janet, Shaw, Judy and Marc Dahman of Jacksonville and Samantha Thomas of Jackson, Wyo., two sisters, Mrs. Inez Kleinschmidt and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Brasell, and a brother, Charles Schnitker, all of Arenzville. She was preceded by an infant son , three brothers and three sisters.
   She was a resident of Arenzville for many years and moved to Jacksonville seven years ago. She attended Grace United Methodist Church.
   Services will be 2 p. m. Sunday at the Cody and Son Memorial Home with burial in Arenzville North Cemetery. Visitation after noon on Saturday with the family to meet friends froom 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials suggested it the American Diabeter Foundation.
   Funeral services for Mrs. Helene A. Dahman were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cody and Son Memorial Home, with the Reverend Jean Reynolds officiating. Pallbearers were Robin Manker, Larry Noble, Dr. George Roegge, Mike Schnitker, Ray Schnitker, and Rod Wallace. Burial was in Arenzville North Cemetery. Cody and Son Memorial Home was in Charge of arrangements.

Homer Dahman, Arenzville, Dies at 58
   Homer H. Dahman, 58, Arenzville high school instructor, died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday at Schmitt Memorial Hospital where he was a patient for a week.
   The body was removed to Williamson Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
   Friends may call at the family residence after 10 a.m. Tuesday. Private funeral services will be held at the residence Wednseday, the Rev. George Bischoff officiating. Burial will be in Arenzville North Cemetery.
   Mr. Dahman was born in Arenzville May 31, 1903, son of Henry and Wmma Zahn Dahman.
   He was married March 9, 1929 to Helene Schnitker, who survives with two children, Mark and Janet.
   Mr. Dahman has been a math instructor in the Arenzville schools since 1929. He was admitted to the bar in 1937.
   He was a former principal of the Arenzville High School.

DALE, Rev. John - Virginia Cass County Courier, Nov. 24, 1871
   Rev. John Dale died at his residence near here the 15th of Typhoid Pneumonia.The funeral was held Friday by Rev. Allen of Jacksonville was called the next day to conduct the funeral of Mrs. Dale, who died that Saturday of the same disease. They leave a number of children. Rev. and Mrs. Dale are buried at the Nisbet Cemetery. Mrs. Dale was Sophia Alexander.

Charles Russell Dambacher

   Charles Russell Dambacher, 67, of Beardstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   He was born July 19, 1943 in Virginia, the son of Charles Edward and Mary Ethel Sias Dambacher.
   Surviving are two brothers, Richard Wayne (wife, Beverly) Dambacher and James Robert (wife, Diane) Dambacher both of Virginia; eight nieces and nephews; and four aunts, Mina Dambacher of Middletown, Velma Brunk of Virginia, Cherry Dambacher of Jacksonville, and Betty Sias of Springfield.
   He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Charles graduated from Petersburg High School in the class of 1962 and later from the American Floral Design School in Chicago. He served in the United States Air Force. He worked at Cass County FS in Virginia for 28 years as a feed delivery truck driver. Charles was a member of the Virginia Christian Church, Virginia American Legion, and also served on the Virginia Library Board for six years.
   A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

DANIEL, Donald C.
Donald C. Daniel, August 18, 1926-July 22, 2015
   Donald C. “Don” Daniel, 88, of rural Ashland, IL died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Passavant Hospital Transitional Care Unit in Jacksonville, IL.
   He was born August 28, 1926 at the family home in Cass County, the son of Walter C. and Addie Blanche Crowell Daniel. He married Patricia “Pat” Sinnock on April 7, 1951 at St. Luke Church in Virginia and she survives.
   He is also survived by three children, JoAnn Daniel of Pana, Mike Daniel (wife, Tina) of Charlotte, NC, and Debbie Pettit (husband, Rick) of Coal Valley; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Daniel, Jake Daniel, Jenny Daniel, Chelsea Rothery, Toby Rothery, Shawn Pettit, Chris Pettit, and Taylor Pettit; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, James Daniel, Darwood Daniel, LuElla Meyer, and a brother and sister in infancy.
   A 1943 graduate of Virginia High School, Don served with the US Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946. A dedicated farmer, he was proud to have been a part of a Cass County multi-generational farming operation that has spanned 100 years. He was a member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia, the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau, and the Ashland VFW Post 3546. He devoted his time and talent to his community by serving as Philadelphia Township Clerk for 40 years, a Cass County Multi-Township Board Member, and as an election judge.
   In his spare time, Don enjoyed breakfast gatherings with his Friday Morning Breakfast Club, competing in pool tournaments, rooting for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoying time with his grandchildren.
   A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, Friday, July 24, 2015, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia with burial at St. Augustine Cemetery, west of Ashland. The family will meet friends at the church from 11:00 am Friday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flights.    Patricia A. “Pat” Daniel, 87, of rural Ashland, IL died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
   She was born August 20, 1929 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Milton and Virginia Koch Sinnock. She married Donald C. Daniel on April 7, 1951 at St. Luke Church in Virginia, IL and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2015.
   She is survived by three children, JoAnn Daniel of Pana, Mike Daniel (wife, Tina) of Charlotte, NC, and Debbie Pettit (husband, Rick) of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Jake and Jenny Daniel, Chelsea and Toby Rothery, and Shawn, Chris and Taylor Pettit; a great granddaughter, Jordan Marie Daniel; a brother, Bob Sinnock (wife, Betty) of Havana; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Don Sinnock (surviving wife, Bettie of Springfield), Greg Sinnock (surviving wife, Kitty of Beardstown), and Virginia Cobb.
   A 1947 graduate of Beardstown High School, Pat was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for Glenn Locker and Packing Company, where she also acquired the skills of the meat cutting trade.
   Pat was a faithful and devoted member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia where she served as a member of the Altar Society, the planning and building committee for St. Luke Hall, and the parish council. A talented vocalist, she shared her voice with the St. Alexis Church Choir and the St. Luke Church Choir for over 50 years. In addition, she taught catechism for several years.
   She was also involved in the community having been a member of the Beardstown BPW Club and serving many years as a volunteer site manager for the Virginia Bread of Love Program. A consummate pie baker, Pat provided food for many church functions and community fundraisers. She also enjoyed working in her yard and her garden. Her favorite days were those spent with her grandchildren on the family farm.
   A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia with burial in St. Augustine Cemetery in Ashland. The family will meet friends at the church from 11:00 am Wednesday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to Virginia Bread of Love or St. Luke Catholic Church. Ronald W. Darland, April 25, 1938-March 3, 2016
   Ronald W. Darland, 77, of Virginia, IL died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his residence.
   He was born April 25, 1938 in Beardstown, IL, the son of Gerald C. “Red” and Mildred M. “Millie” Lindley Darland. He married Vivian Springer and they later divorced. He married Patsy Beaucham Smith on September 22, 1984 in Virginia, IL and she survives.
   He is also survived by two children, Jeff Darland and Rhonda Ream (husband, Michael), both of Phoenix, AZ; three step children, Rob Smith (wife, Marla) of Virginia, Mark Smith of Weslaco, TX, and Kandy Horrer (husband, Kerry) of Virginia; five grandchildren, Parker, Gauge, and Dylan Darland and Kain and Piper Ream, all of Phoenix, AZ; five step grandchildren, Missy Smith of Virginia, Kara Greene of Cheyenne, WY, John Dickerson of Texas, Megan Seitzinger of Jacksonville, and Devin Clemons of Virginia; a great granddaughter, Jovi Seitzinger; and five step great grandchildren, Hailee, Nathan, Lucas, Payten and Sasha Dickerson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth E. Darr; and his former wife, Vivian.
   Following graduation from high school, Ron served with the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Roosevelt. He managed an RV Park in the Phoenix area for several years before returning to central Illinois. He was then employed 20 years with Mobil Chemical/Pactiv in Jacksonville.
   He was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He and his wife enjoyed black powder shooting and were active members of the Muscouten Bay Gun Club in Beardstown and the Coon Run Gun Club in Chapin. He thoroughly enjoyed solving the world’s problems with his coffee club friends. He had a deep love of his family and an amazing ability to repair almost anything.
   At his request, cremation will be accorded. The family will host a gathering and memorial service 10:30 am, Friday, March 25, 2016, at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, west of Virginia. Eva Jean Darnell, January 12, 1933-March 12, 2016
Eva Jean Darnell, 83, of Pleasant Plains, IL died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at her home.
   She was born January 12, 1933 in Adair County, KY, the daughter of Eugene and Nannie Sinclair Willis. She married J. R. Darnell on April 28, 1954 in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2012.
   She is survived by three children, Linda Mullinix (husband, Stan) of Eddyville, KY, Jeff Darnell (wife, Karen) of Ashland, and Eric Darnell (wife, Marian) of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister, Geneva Pehlman of Pleasant Plains; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; a great great grandchild; and five siblings, Christine Cowan, Claude Willis, Frances Humphress, Bernice Brown, and William Willis.
   A graduate of Pleasant Plains High School, Eva Jean was employed for 20 years at Thrifty Drug Store in Springfield. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Ashland. She was proud of her family and valued time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
   Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Pleasant Plains. There will be no visitation. DARR, Ruth E.
Ruth E. Darr, 61, of Neenah, Wis., passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wis.
   She was born Nov. 9, 1951, in Jacksonville, the daughter of the late Gerald and Mildred (Lindley) Darland.
   Ruth graduated from Virginia High School in the Class of 1969. She received her RN degree and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, being stationed on Adak Island in Alaska. Ruth retired from the Navy and then entered the Naval Reserves and retired as a commander in 2006.
   Ruth was employed with Theda Clark Medical Center as an OR nurse for a number of years. She then was employed with Women's Care, retiring in March 2012. She enjoyed golfing, EAA, cooking and traveling. Ruth volunteered her time with a number of organizations.
   Survivors include her brother, Ron (Patsy) Darland of Virginia; a nephew, Jeff Darland of Phoenix; a niece, Rhonda (Michael) Ream of Phoenix; four grand-nephews, Kain, Parker, Gage and Dylan; a grand-niece, Piper; and her dogs, Ripley and Riley.
   A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Westgor Funeral Home in Neenah, Wis.

Lynn Anderson Davenport, June 7, 1923-December 4, 2011
   Lynn Anderson Davenport Sr., 88, of Ashland, IL passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
   He was born on June 7, 1923 in Springfield, IL; the son of Irving Peyton and Nellie Shepherd Anderson Davenport. He married Marjorie Ellen McKay in 1947 in Coronado, CA and she preceded him in death on November 18, 1994. He was also preceded in death by a loving grandson, Brian A. Davenport; his brother, Irving Junior Davenport; and his parents.
   He is survived by his son, Lynn A. "Andy" Davenport Jr. (wife, Karen) of rural Ashland; his two daughters, Sarah Ellen "Sally" Loving (husband, Terry) of Fort Myers, FL and Nancy Anne Allison (husband, Mark) of Moro; six grandchildren, David Davenport (wife, Rachael) and Jarrod Davenport, both of Ashland, Sgt. Steven A. Loving (wife, Karie) of Chatham, Kristin Ellen Lott (husband, Terry) of Raymond, Jessica Swanson (husband, Nathanael) of Falls Church, VA, and Sarah Elizabeth Allison of San Francisco, CA; eight great granddaughters, Elizabeth, Emily, Katie and Sarah Lott, and Ashley, Abigail, Isabella and Taylor Loving; two nieces; four nephews; and many friends.
   Lynn graduated as valedictorian of the Pawnee, IL High School Class of 1941. He attended the University of Illinois prior to receiving a Congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy from Illinois. His prestigious class of 1947 was accelerated and he graduated with the class of 1946 in June of 1946 as a member of the 2nd Company. Upon his graduation, he served his country on various destroyer types and small craft with tours of duty in the Far East and Korea. He served with the 7th Fleet during the Korean Conflict. Following the completion of his naval commission in 1953, he returned to the family farm in Pawnee and later moved to Ashland in 1970.
   Mr. Davenport was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Pawnee Masonic Lodge #675, Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite, Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association, American Legion Post #498, VFW Post #3546, and Ducks Unlimited. He was an outdoorsman, duck decoy carver, boat builder, gunsmith, and enjoyed trap and skeet shooting. As a young man, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland with burial and military honors at Woodwreath Cemetery, north of New Berlin. The family will meet friends at the church from 9:30 AM Thursday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau Foundation to benefit an A-C Central High School graduate majoring in agriculture. ugene “Butch” Davidsmeier, 91, of Virginia, IL passed away Friday, June 9, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
   He was born August 1, 1925 in Cass County, the son of Louis and Louise Jones Davidsmeier. He married Betty J. Bell on February 11, 1955 in Virginia and she survives.
   He is also survived by two children, Daniel Davidsmeier (wife, Jo) of Petersburg and Janet Bentley (husband, Michael) of Virginia; a grandson, Adam Bentley of Virginia; two step grandsons, Jared Woodrum (wife, Ashley) and Jason Woodrum, all of Petersburg; three step great grandchildren, Chad Nimmo, Lane Woodrum and Kylah Woodrum, all of Petersburg; a sister, Betty Workman of Springfield; two half sisters, Linda Humphrey (husband, David) of Beardstown and Emily Ann Remster of Valparaiso, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl “Dick" Davidsmeier and Harold Davidsmeyer; and a sister, Donna Turner.
   Butch worked for the J. E. Dour Garage, which later became D-Our Implement, a John Deere dealer, in Virginia. He assumed a partnership in the dealership, serving in that capacity from 1944 – 1992.
   He was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and a long time member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge. Butch was a dedicated member of the Virginia Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years prior to retiring as Assistant Chief. In his spare time, he enjoyed attending farm equipment auctions, antique tractor displays and farm thrashing events.
   Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Russel Ernest Davidsmeier, 87, of rural Virginia died peacefully at his home Tuesday, June 7, 2011. He was born September 25, 1923 in rural Cass County, the son of William and Alta Oetgen Davidsmeier. He married Sarah Kathryn Jokisch on November 20, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. Surviving is his wife Sarah Davidsmeier of rural Virginia; two children Susan Smith (friend Ron Lynn) of Virginia and Martin (wife Penny) Davidsmeier of rural Virginia; four grandchildren Elissa (husband Chad) Harrison and Victory Davidsmeier Moore both of rural Virginia, Thomas (wife Rebecca) Davidsmeier of Naperville, and Maria Davidsmeier of Chicago; nine great grandchildren Lydia, William, Lucinda, Maxwell, Hannah, Myra, Sarah, Rachel, and Joseph; two sisters Barbara (husband Jim) Thomas of Springfield and Shirley (husband Bob) Black of Williamsville; two brothers Willis (wife Pat) Davidsmeier of Springfield and Kenneth (wife Sherri) Davidsmeier of Lakewater, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Fern Davis Davidsmeier, his grandson Andrew Martin Davidsmeier, three brothers Orville, Robert, and Donald, and one sister Doris Mae Waters. Mr. Davidsmeier was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia where he served as elder and deacon for many years. He also served on the Cass County Fair Board and the Bluff Springs Farmers Elevator Board. Russel was a lifelong resident and farmer in Cass County and in his youth he was recognized as a champion hand corn shucker. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia. Private family graveside services will be held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet with friends from 5 until 7 PM Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Donald Davidson, March 13, 1929-June 14, 2012
   Donald "Don" Davidson, 83, of Virginia, IL died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at his residence.
   He was born March 13, 1929 in Springfield, IL; the son of John and Elizabeth Radigan Davidson. He married Mary J. Reid on February 27, 1949 in Virginia and she survives.
   He is also survived by two daughters, Diane Blair (husband, Darrell "Duey") of Pleasant Plains and Donna Wood (husband, Steven) of Union, MO; a son, Donald Davidson Jr. of Springfield; 5 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; four brothers; and a sister.
   Mr. Davidson served with the US Marine Corps from 1946-1948 and later worked 32 years for Fiat-Allis in Springfield. During that time, he also served as a deputy sheriff in the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department.
   He was a former member of the Four Square Gospel Church in Springfield. In addition to his love of family, Don was proud of his Irish heritage and his service in the Marine Corps.
   Graveside funeral services and military honors will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Mary F. Davin, 1915-2007
   Mary Faye Davin, 91, of Ashland, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born Dec. 2, 1915 in Ashland, the daughter of Thornton G. and Clara Rachel Hayes Evans. She married Thomas Francis Davin on July 16, 1960 in Springfield, and he preceded in death on June 12, 1986.
   She is survived by her sister-in-law and caregiver, Luella Davin of Pleansant Plains; two nephews, Pat Davin of Pleasant Plains and Mike Davin of Springfield; two nieces, Mary Lu Hinkle of Riverton and Sue Davin of Springfield; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward M. Evans and Thornton Evans Jr.
   Mrs. Davin was employed over 29 years for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Springfield. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield where she taught Sunday School for many years. More recently, she attended Ashland United Methodist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland, with burial in Ashland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Ashland U-Help Inc.    Vern Shelton Davis, 88, of Jacksonville, and formerly of Virginia, died Sunday evening, Oct. 20, 2002, at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.
   She was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Ganntown, the daughter of George and Willie Pearl Shamblin Shelton. She married Glenn W. Davis June 16, 1932, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1992.
   She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Hazelrigg of South Jacksonville, and Sandra Rohrer of Springfield; eight grandchildren including Michael DeBeaulieu of Springfield, who was raised in her home; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Franklin Donald; one brother; one sister; and two half sisters.
   Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a member of Virginia United Methodist Church.

   C.E. Davis, 81 Dies in West Funeral Will Be Held Here Tuesday.
   Funeral Services will be held in this city at the Cline Funeral hone at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon for C. E. Davis. 81 years old, and a former resident here. He died Tuesday in Glendora. Calif. and the body will arrive here Monday.
   The Funeral will be in charge of the Rev. E. W. Lathrope of Bluff Springs and burial will be in the Clark Cemetery. Mr. Davis was born in Monroe Precinct, Cass county September 18,1861 and was untied in Marriage to Rachel Ann Schaeffer, November 19. 1882, they lived in Cass County until 1923 and since then in California.
   Mr. Davis was a retired farmer, having operated a farm near here on the Chandlerville Highway. Surviving besides the wife area a daughter. Mrs. Lula. Metcalf of Pamona Cal. two daughters in this city. Mrs Ethel Leonard and Mrs. Everett Doerr and two sons of this city. Elmer and Arthur. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren. A son preceded him in death.

   Mrs. Davis, the mother of W.M. and David Davis, died at the latter's home near Coleman Tuesday night. Death came as a result of old age, deceased being 87 years of age having been in failing health for some time.
   The funeral was held at the home of David Davis last Thursday at one o'clock. The remains were taken to the Wills cemetery for burial.

Harold F. Davis, 90, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.
   He was born December 26, 1919 at the family farm in Cass County, IL; the son of Willis F. and Barbara (Kruse) Davis. He married Lela Mae Marr on December 22, 1940 in New London, MO and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2006.
   Surviving are his three daughters, Marilyn Kay Small (husband, Ronnie) of Houston, TX, Judith Ann Wallace (husband, Bob) of Sarasota, FL, and Linda Yockey (husband, Ron) of Nauvoo; two sons, Harold Allen Davis (wife, Patty) of Virginia and Marvin Danny Davis (wife, Teresa) of Virginia; nine grandchildren, Richard Wallace, Ron Wallace, Roger Wallace, Brigit Bell, Scott Davis, John Davis, Ross Davis, Caye Perez, and Megan Davis; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Fern Davidsmeier, and a brother, Wilbur Davis.
   Harold graduated from Beardstown High School in 1937. During World War II, he served in the 80th Infantry Division, saw combat in the European Theater of Operation, and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he and his wife engaged in grain and livestock farming on their farm in the Bluff Springs Township. In addition to farming, he also worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Cass, Morgan, Mason, Schuyler, Christian, and Pike counties. Following his retirement, he and his wife returned to Cass County and, during 1995, moved to their home in Virginia, IL. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, walking, and nature.
   Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Helen Margarette Davis, 91, of Mount Sterling and formerly of Beardstown, died Sunday March 28, 2004, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mount Sterling. She was born May 29, 1912, in Cass County, the daughter of Charles Greenberry and Cornelia Madora Koester Tucker. She married Roy Davis on April 2, 1936, and he preceded her in death.
   She is survived by one daughter, Gladys Pearl (deceased husband, Ted) Eichelberger of Mount Sterling; one stepson, Marlin Davis of Homestead, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Alberta Wilkins of Springfield; three grandchildren, John Eichelberger of Versailles, Jennifer Eichelberger of Morro Bay, Calif.; and Chris Eichelberger of Mount Sterling; six stepgrandchildren, Susan Wilkins, Sherry Wilkins, Eric Wilkins, Kevin Davis, Nancy Davis and Linda Davis; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Franklin (deceased wives, Beatrice and Margaret) Tucker of Rushville and Raymond (wife, Violet) Tucker of Roodhouse; two sisters, Hazel (husband, Theodore) Rathman of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Mary (husband, Orville) Hendricker of Clifton Hill, Mo.    Mrs. Davis was a 1930 graduate of Beardstown High School. She attended the Black Oak Church of rural Beardstown and First Southern Baptist Church of Beardstown. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting and cooking, and she loved being around her family.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Southern Baptist Church in Beardstown, with burial in Beardstown City Cemetery.    Hilda Vette Davis, 1206 Lafayette, Beardstown, died at Schmitt Memorial Hospital Thursday shortly before noon.
Hilda Vette Davis was born near Beardstown June 14, 1888, daughter of Henry and Anna Schewe Vette. She was baptized by Pastor John Broadman of St. John's Lutheran Church and was confirmed on April 5, 1903 in the church.
   Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by two husbands, William Carls of Bluff Springs and George Gebhart of Stonington, Ill., her parents, one sister and three brothers.
   She is survived by her husband Elmer, one son, Russell Carls; two grandsons, R. William Carls of Edinburg, Ill., and Robert Carls of Stonington, Ill.; nine great-grandchildren; one step-son, John Davis of Paris, Ill.; two brothers William Vette of Bluff Springs and Henry Vette of Moorhead, Minn.; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
   She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. Friends wishing to give may donate to the WRMS Sunday Lutheran Broadcast Memorial Fund. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with the Rev. Edward M. Lang officiating.    James C. Davis, 80, of South Jacksonville and formerly of Arenzville, died Sunday morning, March 23, 2003, at Modern Care Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.
   He was born July 6, 1922, in Camden, the son of Rollie Gilbert and Nona Catherine Yates Davis. He married Emma Filey May 26, 1946 in Beardstown, and she survives.
   He is also survived by one son, Stephen of Jacksonville; two daughters, Patricia (husband, Doug) Miller of Quincy and Donna (husband, Pat) Scranton of Hull; five grandchildren; one stepsister, Wava (husband, Ray) Sorrell of Moline; and one aunt. He was preceded in death by three sons, Darrell Eugene Davis, Jerry Allen and one in infancy; and one brother, Leslie Wayne.
   Mr. Davis worked for Burrus Seed Farms at Arenzville for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and loved gardening.

   She was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Pleasant Plains, the daughter of William G. and Emma Mudd Marr. She married Harold F. Davis on Dec. 22, 1940, in New London, Mo., and he survives.    She was born December 10, 1928 in Virginia, the daughter of Otis Jasper and Lavina Buchanan Hudson. She married Charles Vernon Davis on June 30, 1951 in Arkansas and he preceded in death in January of 1985.
   She is survived by two daughters, Linda (husband, Earl Dennis) Trowbridge of rural Jacksonville and Nancy (husband, John) Robinson of Roodhouse; three granddaughters, Angela (husband, Darius Howse) Trowbridge of Springfield, Kayla Jo Robinson and Emily Jo Robinson, both of Roodhouse; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Hudson.
   Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a member of the Virginia Church of Christ in Virginia.

   Mrs. Nancy Davis Died at Home Near Ashland Funeral Services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon for Mrs. Nancy J. Davis, 78, who died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Orne, of Ashland, after two weeks' illness. Services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Ashland with the Rev. Charles L. Coleman in charge. Burial was in the Clark Cemetery west of Virginia.
   Mrs. Davis is survived by six daughters and six sons: Mrs. F.A. Hillig and Harry Davis, of Peoria; Ledru, Claude and Roy Davis, Mrs. Edward Hiles, Mrs. Perle Shebiel, of Beardstown; Edward Davis and Mrs. Richard Fanning, of Virginia; Elmer Davis of Fort Lauderdale, FL.; and Mrs. E.S. Orne of Ashland. She is also survived by two brothers, William Dyche of Beardstown and John Dyche of Arenzville; thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-two great-grand children.

   Nancy Jane Dyche, daughter of Joseph and Jane Long Dyche was born May 15, 1857 and died May 2, 1936, age 78 years 11 months and 17 days at the home of her daughter Mrs. E.S. Orne near here.
   She was united in marriage to James Philo Davis July 4th, 1877 at Virginia and spent her entire life in Cass County.
   She was survived by 11 children, 35 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. One daughter preceded her in death, May 23, 1913. She is also survived by two brothers, William Dyche of Beardstown and John Dyche of Arenzville.
   She was united with the Baptist church near Beardstown in 1910. She was a woman of sterling character and a loving mother.
   Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, Rev. C.L. Coleman officiating.
   The casket carriers were Donald Davis, Carl Orne, Raymond Fanning, Roland Hillig, George Davis, Francis Davis. Interment was in Clark Cemetery.

   Richard E. Davis of Ashland died suddenly December 18 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was 77 years of age and retired from employment at Allis Chalmers in Springfield. Mr. Davis was born in Virginia September 13, 1901, son of Frank and Jane Davis. He married Belle Davison at Virginia December 24, 1922. She is the only survivor, other than nieces and nephews. Two brothers and two sisters preceded in death. Interment was in Ashland cemetery.

   Rose Marie Davis, 79, of Peoria, passed away at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at home.
   She was born November 1, 1931 in Ashland, Illinois to William Harry and Mary Isabelle Kinney Devine. They preceded her in death. She married Conrad "Bud" Davis of Virginia, Illinois on March 24, 1951. He passed away on February 2, 2007.
   She was also preceded in death by one son, Johnny; one daughter, Dawn; one son-in-law, Steven Lehner; two sisters, June and Kay "Mary" and four brothers, Frank, Johnny, Benjamin and William.
   She is survived by one brother, James Devine; four daughters, Donna "Robin" Lehner, Dina (Gene) Walker, Dale (Michael) Wilkins and Darla Davis; a son, Jeffrey; Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Renee, Lee, Aaron, Chris, Roseanne, Stephanie, Ashlee, Alycce, Jeremy and Justin; 16 great-grandchildren, Makayla, Kaydence, Kaleb, Jessica, Josalyn, Jianna, Pierce, Carissa, Chloe, Steven, Reagan, Thaddeus, Mystique, Tatyanna, Jathaniel and Brooklin and many nieces and nephews.
   She worked at Sharon Health Care for 18 1/2 years. She was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
   She loved working out in her yard and playing solitary games on her computer.
   A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the Mass at the church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, Illinois. Wright and Salmon Mortuary are in charge of arrangements.

    He was born March 5, 1949, in Atterberry, IL, the son of Ralph E. and Agnes J. Collins Davis.
   He is survived by his companion of 14 years, Frankie Wyzard and son Cole, of Virginia; one daughter, Melissa (Keith) Davis-Frederick of Bluffs and her mother Linda Sinnock; one son, Victor Lee Davis of Virginia; step-son, Jeremy Marquard of Virginia; and step-daughter, Amanda Christison of Winchester and their deceased mother Tina Christison; four grandchildren, James Frederick, Jr., Sylvia Frederick, Gannon Davis, and Karley Kramer; four sisters, Sally (deceased husband, Hank) Martin of Jacksonville, Carol (Ronald) Troxell of Virginia, Rose (Richard) Ford of Havana, Doris (Stanley) Fanning of Jacksonville; one brother, Rodney (Tara) Davis of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters and one brother, Margaret Ann Davis, Harold Wayne Davis, and Betty Sue Jackson.
   Mr. Davis worked at Sunrise FS from the age of 16 until his death. He was drafted into the US Marines when he was 20. He enjoyed horses, especially while spending time with Johnny Cox, the Lazy C Rodeo, and stock car racing.

   Wilbert "Bill" Eugene Davis, 93, of Beardstown, died Saturday morning, Dec. 15, 2007, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Effingham County, the son of Jefferson and Amanda Keller Davis.
   He is survived by four nieces and nephews, Virginia Thomas and Donald Davis, both of Astoria, Helen Lucas of Camden and Dollie Lewis of Beardstown; several great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Harlan, Loren, George and Leonard; and two sisters, Rose Brown and Laura Nichols.
   Mr. Davis was a member of Union Baptist Church in Beardstown. He was formerly employed with Burlington-Northern Railroad in Beardstown for 20 years and later with the City of Beardstown for 10 years.

William Davis 1840-1920
   William Davis was born in Virginia, Cass County, Illinois, on March 19, 1840, and died in Daugherty (Eight Mile), Cass County, Missouri, Thursday, July 8, 1920, at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 19 days.
   On February 18, 1968, he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Dobson at Virginia IL, and to this union six children were born - three daughters and three sons - as follows: Mrs. Delia McKinley, Kansas City, MO; Mrs. Nannie Colville, Coleman, MO; Mrs. Nora Richardson, who died on May 2, 1913; W. Edward Davis, Harrisonville, MO; John C. Davis, Kansas City, MO; and Archie Lee Davis who died on November 9, 1882.
   Mr. Davis was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting on July 4, 1860 and receiving an honorable discharge on October 4 of the same year, on account of disability. After leaving the State of Illinois, he brought his family to Cass County, MO, locating near Coleman and Peculiar, later taking up residence at Daugherty. In 1886, he was converted to Christ, and united with the Baptist Church in Coleman, MO. Later he transferred his membership to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in this county. He had always been a fervent and devoted christian and was steadfast in his faith of the Baptist denomination.
   Funeral services were held in the Coleman Baptist Church on Sunday, July 11. Burial was in Wills Cemetery near Peculiar, MO.

   Funeral services for William Arthur Davis, Road Commissioner at Bluff Springs, who died Thursday morning at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, were held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Cline's Funeral Home.
   The Rev. R.C. Aden, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church at Bluff Springs, officiated at the service.
   Harold Walker sang "The Lords Prayer" and was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Harold Walker.
   The many flowers were arranged by Mrs. Fred Ruppel, Mrs. Gus Carls, Mrs. Claude [Davis?], Mrs. Elmer Davis and Mrs. Edward F. Kloker.
Pallbearers were Frank Trussel, Edward F. Kloker, Gus Carls, Claude Davis, Fred Ruppel and Glen Miller.
   Burial was made in the City Cemetery and the American Legion had charge of the services at the grave. Dean Rockwell was chaplain; Tom Morrow and Cline Brockman, color bearers; James Dorwart and C.C. Christensen color guards; Bill Bley and Charles Barron, Buglers; and the firing squad consisted of Harold Beaty, Wilbur Kennedy, Elmer Davis and Joe Matthews. Bob Lael was commander of the squad.M

William Robert 'Bill' Davis, 65, of Ashland, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born July 30, 1942 in Cass County, the son of Monte Coy and Dora Lillian Johnson Davis. He married Mary Daniel on March 31, 1972 in Ashland, and she survives.
   He is also survived by one daughter, Darri Lynn Davis (fiance), Larry Gilbreath) of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, William R. "B.J." Jr. (Wife, Melissa) of Chandlerville and Stefan Alan Davis of Ashland; four daughters from a previous marriage, Robin Sue (husband, Clifton) Steele, Kimberly Kelly and Katrina (husband, Chuck) McGraw, all of Mason City; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Mr. Davis was employed by Oscar Meyer and later Cargill of Beardstown for many years. He was a member of Ashland Church of Christ and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

   James L. Davison, 72, of Springfield died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his residence.
   He was born July 7, 1926, in Ashland, the son of William and Della Thacker Davison. He married Marion F. Schall on in 1947 in Beardstown.
   Mr. Davison retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections in 1991. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, lifetime member of DAV and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II from 1944-46. Survivors: wife, Marion F.; two sons, James Lloyd (wife, Bonnie) Davison Jr. of Donnellson and Richard Allen (wife, Rita) Davison of Rising Sun, Md.; a daughter, Barbara Jean (husband, David) Newbrough of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Russell (wife, Eleanor) Davison of Jacksonville and William A. (Helen) Davison of Springfield; a sister, Mary (husband, Jack) Turner of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
   Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Bisch and Son Funeral Home, the Rev. Kreston Lipscomb officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Patricia A. Davison, 1936-2008, Ashland
   Patricia A. "Pat" Davison, 71, of Ashland, died Thursday evening, March 20, 2008, at Helia Healthcare in Springfield.
   She was born Dec. 6, 1936 in Springfield, the daughter of Thomas Sr. and Irene Schroll Bee. She married Marvin "Tuffy" Davison on April 28, 1962, in Springfield, and he preceded in death on May 29, 1998.
   She is survived by one son, Doug (wife, Karen) of Romeoville; two step-sons, Dennis of Decatur and Danny of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Shannon, Nicholas, and Katherine; three step-grandchildren, Derrick, Josh, and Jeff; two sisters, Gladys Micko of Charleston, S.C. and Florence Bee of Springfield; one half sister, Maxine Hammrick of Traverse City, Mich.; two half brothers, Richard Bee of Pittsburgh, Mo. and Thomas Bee Jr. of Traverse City, Mich; and several nieces and nephews including Mildred Brach of Jacksonville, Margaret Wooldridge of Ashland, Mike and Charles Kennedy of Ashland, and Kenneth Kennedy of Raymond, who were raised in the family home.
   She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Christopher and Andrew; one sister, Gloria DeGroot; and one niece who was raised in the family home, Patty Troxell.
   Mrs. Davison served as a cook for many years in the Ashland School District and was employed several years with Horace Mann Insurance in Springfield. She was a member of Richland Baptist Church in rural Pleasant Plains.
   Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland, with burial in Ashland Cemetery. Hazel M. Dawson - 1913-2003 - Virginia
   Hazel M. Dawson, 89, of Virginia, died Tuesday morning, June 24, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born Nov. 3, 1913 in Cass County, the daughter of Loran and Lucy Collins Arthalony. She married Homer F. "Jack" Dawson April 6, 1941 in Virginia, and he preceded in death Oct. 29, 1972.
   She is survived by a sister, Betty Siltman of Chandlerville; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Ken Lee in 1945 and three brothers, Adrian Arthalony, Raymond Arthalony (surviving wife, Eileen of Jacksonville), and Leo Arthalony.
   Mrs. Dawson was employed several years as an accountant for a road construction company in Arizona prior to her retirement.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. DR. LOREN C. DAWSON JR. September 20, 1928 - July 20, 2008
   Evangelist Dr. Loren C. Dawson Jr., 78, of Virginia, IL went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown, IL.
   He was born September 20, 1929 in Virginia, the son of Loren Cody Dawson Sr. and Iola Boyd Dawson (Fanning). He married his childhood sweetheart, Evelyn Olroyd on January 28, 1946 in Beardstown, IL and she survives.
   He is also survived by a son, Rev. Jim Dawson (wife, Sharon) of Pekin; a grandson, James Loren Dawson of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorna Jean Force.
   Dr. Dawson served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed sharing his testimony of receiving Christ: "seven stories high in the new Kijo Building in Toyko, Japan in 1949". He later became a preacher of the Gospel and an author. He also had a Christian radio program in Beardstown for a few years. He served as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin for over 12 years.
   He received a Doctorate from Indiana Baptist College as well as Huber Heights Christian College. He served as founder and president of the Illinois Baptist College back in the early 70's. A minister since 1957 in the pastorate, evangelism, as well as making annual mission trips to Barbados for 50 years. He loved "letting his light shine" for Christ. In 1975, he moved his ministry headquarters back to Virginia, IL and continued to serve in evangelism for many years. He recently was pastor of the Faith Baptist Church in Virginia. He had a great burden for the community and prayed fervently for people to know and receive the love of Christ.
   He was an avid sportsman as a bow hunter and fisherman. He loved to hunt deer and wild turkey. But his greatest love was to share the glorious Gospel of Christ to all and everyone he would meet. He will be greatly missed but we KNOW we will see him again! 1Thess. 4:13 "But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope". His prayer would be that ALL would know the Hope of his Lord!
   A service of praise will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Faith Baptist Church in Virginia with his son, Rev. Jim Dawson and Pastor Jay Workman officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Thursday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
